    I just picked up one used this week. I was looking for a small tube amp for my grandson. He has a Vox Valvetronix hybrid 15 watt. He likes the amp selection and the effects. This was similar, however the tones that come out of the Fender put it to the top of the class! Very satisfied with it!

      Agree! Can't go wrong with this amp if you want something cheap and light, but still sounds great!

      I had a Vox VT40+ hybrid amp, pretty good; but not as good as this Fender SCXD. The channel 2 on the SCXD is good, but I now love the clean CH1, and engage pedals when required. It takes pedals very well, which give much more versatility than the built in effects. However, the built in reverb and delays are good, so much so that I sold a Boss Fender FRV-1 Reverb pedal....for as much as the cost of the SCXD 🙄.

    I had quite many Fender combos. Everytime i gave away or sold one, i regretted deeply some time afterwards. When this combo popped up, i was stunned. After watching two or three tests on YT, i decided to buy one. I could give it back within 30 days, no explanations. It still collects dust right next to my sofa. This is a keeper. This amp can do anything - on a smaller scale of course. Plus the transport and handling issues makes twin reverb owners weep ;-) Thank you for the performance. Keep this amp.

    I'd say it's a keeper but the true moral is really skilled guitar players make any amp sound good lol.

      Can't agree with you more. No matter what everybody says, the tone is in the player's fingers. Gear is great, but it should not be seen as necessity!

    Nice! Very tasteful presentation of an underrated amp. I have owned one of these for 10 years and it's pretty sweet. Useable Fender Blackface, Tweed, AC30, and Plexi voices and a handful of decent DSP effects. Perfect for rehearsal, recording, and small gigs so I don't need to drag out the 64 Super Reverb.

      You could pay 200 and still be cheap. I could pay as much as 400 if it weren't for the fact that I own two of them, first one bought new for 300 if I remember well because it was around 2007 and I got a second one 10 years later for 200 second hand.

    Next level playing man. Bought a blonde Super Champ XD new in 2010. I have rarely used it, but believe the DSP might be failing. I'm a little heart-broken because I loved the tones this amp could produce. Great video

  • @SaxJockey
    @SaxJockey 3 роки тому +1

    Yes it's worth it! I paid $277/£200 for one in great condition, including a two way footswitch (channel and effects) and replacement JJ power tubes. I knew it was good, so I bought a second one for $208/£150, mint but no external switch. The first one has been so reliable for guess around three years, not used the second one much (occasional stereo o/p from a delay pedal). The second one has original Fender Groove Tubes, the tone is not as good as the first one, but that is due to the speaker being a bit tight/not played in enough. I have patched the amp output to each speaker to confirm that the tube/amp in the the second amp is fine.

    I've had a SuperChamp XD for years and am always surprised at how good it sounds for the price, but listening to your playing, and the tones you coaxed out of it, have convinced me to KEEP it. Installed replacement tubes (1x Tung-Sol 12AX7 2x Genalex - Gold Lion 6V6GT/CV-511) and it's better than ever. Thank you, brother, for the inspiration.

    I don't know about the XD specifically, but I did own a Superchamp X2, which was the next generation, with the same circuit but a few upgrades. The most important upgrade was a Celestion G10 speaker. I loved the amp and would not have ever sold it but I purchased a '68 Custom Deluxe Reverb Reissue (that also came with a Celestion G12), that I got an incredible deal on.
    I kept them both for awhile and believe me that in most cases, especially with soft rhythm and jazz, the Superchamp held its own. It didn't break up as nicely as the DRRI and of course could not push the volume as well. I still sometimes wish that I had my little SCX2, kinda like that first car you had that occasionally needed a jump start, but ran so sweet after that for a lot of miles.
    If you have an XD, I suggest trying out a new speaker. Besides a Celestion greenback, I have also heard and played one with a Ragin' Cajun in it and that was also a cool sound.

  • @Kevlarel84

    Great presentation. Great playing and you pulled some great tones out of the amp. I am looking at super champ videos to compare the differences of the XD and X2 models. I'm planning to buy a used Super Champ for an "around the house" amp. Trying to figure out which model will best suit my needs.

    • @fionncaomanac339
      @fionncaomanac339 Рік тому

      The X2 has more features with USB connectivity and a different DSP and is better suited for DAW recording but generally I've noticed champ enthusiasts prefer the XD with it's simplicity and slightly higher quality construction.

    • @Kevlarel84
      @Kevlarel84 Рік тому

      @@fionncaomanac339 I bought a used X2 combo amp about 6 months ago. I like it a lot. I have no experience with the XD so I can't compare quality. I have no use for the "tap tempo button" on the X2. I use the reverb but not much else for the digital effects. I'd gladly give up the effects section for more control over EQ and parameters on the voiced channels. It's not perfect but It's a great sounding little amp that didn't cost an arm and a leg. I have no regrets.

    Many of voicing are helpful to make your guitare collection sounding well and changing your inspiration. After 10 years I don’t want to change it.

    I like your demo, but where this amp really shines is fully cranked and hitting the tubes hard. With this wattage fully cranked you get fantastic tones and can still be heard in the band over the drums. Other wattage like 30, or 40 the amps are too loud to fully get the tones out of tubes. Try cranking the volume to 10 with the tone controls and hear the amp sing.
