The Optimist is the eleventh album by rock band Anathema, released on June 9, 2017 through Kscope. The album follows the concept of the band's 2001 release A Fine Day To Exit.
There was a lovely moment when I was listening to this album on the bus home from my place of study. Within the last hour of the three-and-a-half-hour journey, somewhere between "The Optimist" and "Ghosts", there was some sort of fault and half the lights went out. The half-darkness that resulted suited the melancholy feel of the album perfectly. At about 4:00 through this song, the lights came back on, coinciding perfectly with the strings. It was a beautiful little moment, especially as I'd only recently discovered A Fine Day to Exit and it was the first time I'd listened to The Optimist knowing where that character had come from which made for an entirely different listening experience. These guys really are something else.
They don't understand They don't understand They don't understand They don't understand And all I need is you Just all I need is you They don't understand 'Cause they don't talk for me There ain't no master plan I came here to make peace I'm only made to suffer I'm only made to care And all the time in the world Gonna wish you 'til it hurts 'Cause they don't understand And all I need is you But you don't know it's true And all I need is you But you don't know it's true It's impossible Unbelievable Do you see it now? Do you see it now? And our lives coming back to the start Back to the start Back to the start Back to the start Back to the start
Danny´s promise was fullfilled here. I attended the Buenos Aires gig in 2015. The atmosphere was amazing, top notch and by the end of the first encore we all begin chanting our appreciation over and again After 4 minutes Danny promised that moment in time will become part of the new album...And here it is from 06:10 to 06:47
:o i was just asking myself where did those chants come from... thanks. See btw how life balances itself out? You may not have the most desirable world cup run in football, but have a privilege of being included on the Anathema's album, which is just as awesome as winning the cup, if not more.
@@EDGE_666 sure. Anathema started as a DOOM band back in the 90's. the co-ordinates for the 1st song on "optimist" is the location for the photo that is the cover of "fine day to exist" and im assuming the knock at the door is an alternative for...... ("alterantive 4" another album reference) going back to the start. i take it as. A FINE DAY TO .... KNOCK ON THE DOOR.
Me encanta está canción, me recuerda cuando tomaba el auto por las noches y conducía sin rumbo, pero siempre regresaba a casa muy despejado y lleno de paz interior...
They exceed all our expectations with each and every album they make. Absolutely, peacefully beautiful song/album once again. Thank you for sharing this masterpiece. A stunned fan from Turkey :)
This is as epic as Shine On You Crazy Diamond / Champagne Supernova / Hey Jude and also The Good Will Out by Embrace.......but then it fizzles out after 7 mins rather than continuing to build to the end.....still brilliant though

They don't understand
They don't understand
They don't understand
They don't understand
And all I need is you
Just all I need is you
They don't understand
'Cause they don't talk for me
There ain't no master plan
I came here to make peace
I'm only made to suffer
I'm only made to care
And all the time in the world
Gonna wish you 'til it hurts
'Cause they don't understand
And all I need is you
But you don't know it's true
And all I need is you
But you don't know it's true
It's impossible
Unbelievable
Do you see it now?
Do you see it now?
And our lives coming back to the start
Back to the start
Back to the start
Back to the start
Back to the start
Isn't it
They don't understand
You don't understand
They don't understand
You don't understand?
i thought it was
"The more were made to suffer,
The more were made to care"
but i like your version better
also i thought it was
"Do you see me now?"
Back to the Start:
33.3% Pink Floyd.
33.4% Anathema.
33.3% The Beatles.
♥♥♥
And you forgot a little % from Argentina's crowd.
there is some Porcupine Tree in the Piano/Drum duo like a "Dark Matter" stuff in the begin of the song I think
always add IMHO, guy after stupidity like yours above.
34.788% Complete?

Its a place, a beach ..
Not the old, great, melancholic Anathema but good song.
The big orchestral climax reminds me of Hey Jude.
Sadly the only one that I liked from this album.
Los Argentinos estamos en todos lados heee
Me conmovió esa parte
Por eso dicen que tenemos el mejor publico del mundo. :)
Vengo de una sugerencia...miren el video "el mejor público del mundo Argentina"
Catarse!!
The worst album by anathema so far! Only this song in this album is good!
may be yes may be not
