Saw Cheap Trick in 80s still one the best show I ever saw. People should pull out their albums, sit back and listen. Yeah, I do miss Bun E. Carlos. My God, he hit those drums hard.
Cheap Trick....Kings of the Road. Have seen them open for so many bands. Never the headliner, but always my favourite band at all those 80s gigs. Like seeing a fond old friend seeing this group.
Saw them many times in the eighties. Worked at I’ll. County fairgrounds in the summer selling corn dogs and lemonade. Always entertaining and full throttle
Dave, I agree! The band was absolutely electric back in those days. I saw them for the first time in July of '79, in Springfield, IL. They were like nothing we'd ever seen before. Obviously, they've slowed down some, being that the 3 original members still in the band are pushing 70. So many great memories of this band over the last 40+ years!
seen these cats when they had a coming home party on the 4th of july 1979 in pecatonica at winnebago co.fair grounds(rockford).they just came back from far east tour where they made their buddakan album.the show was the babys who were bombed off the stage w/fireworks, ac/dc (w/bon scott),molley hatchet and cheap trick.there is a video on youtube you can see a short clip of cheap trick at pecatonica.what a hot, sunburned party it was..
Was at Pecatonica on that 4th of July. Track was still muddy from previous days rain. Lots of fireworks tossed around. It was kinda nuts. The Baby's were sleepy. Molly Hatchet wer good. AC/DC were great. Had Bon Scott on lead vocals then. Cheap Trick killed as always. Saw CT 6times in 1977. It was when they were supporting their first album. The best time was opening for Queen on their Day at the Races tour. They were starting their 3rd encore when they had the power cut off. I remember it got quiet enough to hear Rick Nielsen say "I guess we're done now"! Then Queen blew the place away. Great memories of a great concert.
I was most fortunate To have worked As a Local Working Stage Hand when Cheap Trick opened for Aerosmith in 2004 & it should have been Cheap trick opening for Aerosmith Hahaha & after I was done w helping set up Aerosmith's 2 drum sets I was asked To help set up Cheap Trick's Bun E Carlo's drum set if I remember correctly As I was also the Local Drum Tech & w that said I'd love to see Daxx! A drummin'! w my KISS Eric Singer endorsed Pearl drum set That has double kicker pedals w 1 kicker pedal On each side Of the #1 snare drum That sits between my legs + on my left I have 2 hi-hats w 1closed & 1 open & on the right hand side Of the #1 snare drum I have 2 more hi-hats w 1 closed & 1 open + 1 more open hi-hat That sits over beside my #2 snare drum That sits beside the #1 tom tom + 7 more tom toms All in a roll row + 20 mostly mirrored splash crash cymbals + 7 ride cymbals + 7 cowbells + 1 more cowbell on a kicker pedal Hahaha Soooooo just imagine Daxx a drummin'! With so many options I'm sure! He'd blow us all away! Even more! Than he already does! With his most awesome a drummin'! & I just love this tune! A most fave of mine! As I have drummed To this most awesome a tune! More than just once or twice I think I may have even posted it On UA-cam! That's how much! I love this tune! Hahaha
Nothing “wrong” with the drumming, but Cheap Trick’s magic, in large part, included Bun’s innate sense of feel and swing. This guy can cop Bun’s notes but you can’t duplicate someone with their own unique and very real feel for the music. Bun also made Rick, Tom and Robin all sound better
These guys can still Rock and they sound exactly like they do on their record back when these guys and Ozzy Osbourne and all those guys back in those days they actually had to know how to sing because they didn't have freaking Auto tuner so when you walked into the concert you heard exactly what it sounded like on the record it was awesome nowadays you don't know if you're going to get what they sound like on the record or a bunch of howling dogs
Bill, I've seen CT at least 2 dozen times myself. We were in the front row in front of Rick for this Decatur show. Rick Nielsen is one of my rock idols. I love Cheap Trick and grew up in Central IL cutting my teeth on these guys. I did make a comment to my wife that Rick looked really tired that night. He's a frickin' pro, so he powered through it, but no doubt, he was a little off. Not nearly as "involved" as we have come to expect over the years. They put the 5-neck guitar around his neck and he looked like he was going to fall over. Now I see he's had some recent surgery and has missed several shows due to recovery time. Robin's son is a talented kid, but he's no Rick Nielsen. You can switch the bass player and drummer (kinda) and get by for a while. You cannot replace Rick Nielsen and/or Robin Zander and still have Cheap Trick. Just my 2 cents...
They had to get someone...... Bun -E... Would Lite up a smoke for him... We all know those sticks....! Something has changed.... Rick used to flick at least 5 picks every song...
Bun hasn’t played in CT since 2010. It’s a mess, so I can’t elaborate. BEC is my all-time favorite drummer, so suffice it to say, all other CT drummers pale in comparison.
Ya, bun was good. But was never that impressed with his style. Too many cigarettes when he played. 💥SIMPLE MUSIC, SIMPLE drummer. YES, I AM A DRUMMER/PERCUSSIONIST. IN A BAND SINCE I WAS 12. 😁🙏❤🇺🇸💥👍AND ROCKIN ALL THE TIME
These bands losing mainstay members have to give it up. It makes you look beyond desperate. Cheap trick losing Ben E Carlos, the stones losing Charlie Watts, the who losing Entwhistle and Moon...Give it up...You`re embarrassing yourself looking desperate.
Not an intelligent, informed comment. Cheap Trick still has 3 of the 4 original members. Charlie Watts died. John Entwistle died. Keith Moon died. What the hell are the rest of the band members supposed to do - quit and start selling insurance? The living members have the right to continue their legacy, too.
@@crazyconcertdude Agreed, look at AC/DC, they tragically lost Bon, then went on to pretty much rule the rock world, with Brian, Iron Maiden went mega after, Paul Dianno left and Bruce joined.
Saw Cheap Trick in 80s still one the best show I ever saw. People should pull out their albums, sit back and listen. Yeah, I do miss Bun E. Carlos. My God, he hit those drums hard.
I agree. Bun's unique cadence was a big part of their sound.
Cheap Trick....Kings of the Road. Have seen them open for so many bands. Never the headliner, but always my favourite band at all those 80s gigs. Like seeing a fond old friend seeing this group.
Saw them in '78. So many good songs from these guys.
Zander’s voice sounds just like it did in the late 70s. Amazing.
Wow. Still Rockin in 2022!! Amazing! And they sound great! Robin's voice has changed some but he's still kickin it big time!
Your spot on with that comment!! All drummers need to be able to swing no matter what genre it is. Miss Bunny.
Saw them many times in the eighties. Worked at I’ll. County fairgrounds in the summer selling corn dogs and lemonade. Always entertaining and full throttle
I saw them in concert 41 years ago when I was in high school.
I would love to hear and see
Cheap Trick in concert.
"Ain't That A Shame"
I haven't yet!
Bun E. could swing, this kid is fine, but Bun E. could swing. They were mighty lucky to have him to make the hits.
I couldn't agree more, Rob! BEC is a beast on the skins!
Bun E Carlos .... Legend
At least he put some aspects of Bun E's iconic solo. But yeah like you said it's straight 16th notes and 8th notes when Bun E would swing his ass off
@@AlmostReady504 ...and not drop the ash off of the heater he was puffin on
Bun E. could play this…effortlessly. It sounds good but you kids don’t know what you’re missing.
These guys sound great and been at this for 40+ years.-
Only 3 of them have .
The drummer is Dax Neilson, Rick Neilson's son.
Wheres bun e ?
This is the only song on the planet to me that wires me up incredibly just love this song!
They opened for Kansas when I first saw them. Never heard of them. Blew the roof off! Haven't disappointed since. BEC, miss you.
I saw these guys in '88 at the Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu. Awesome show!
Coincidentally, I listened to this song on my way to work this morning.
Saw these guys do this in San Diego in Fall '79. I was blown away.

Just as good if not better than when I saw them in 78!! Dont ever stop!!!!
Thismy all time favorite song by Cheap trick great song!! Kris Ryan
Robin striding up to the Mike stand just in time, like he's done this about 5,000 times before.
Ive seen them several times. They never disappointed.

OMG I woulda been 18 then, and woulda killed to be there
I see you found the 9-minute video of the start of that set. Can you believe the stories of some of the other dudes who were there? Holy shit.
I got to see them open for the first concert I ever attended- opening for Kiss back in '77. 3x since then, all terrific shows!

I'm looking at the eighties all over again
Also saw them back in 78 they were/are amazing
Well Rick and Robin are still there, doing it. I’m grateful.
CHEAP TRICK. These guys are pure rockers. 😎👌👌✌️✌️🎶🎶
remember hearing it live at the Baja Beach Party in OKC in the 80's
not sure anything has sounded as good since?
I could not agree more! Thanks for listening!
まさに今夜(2022.11.28)、目の前でこの演奏が聴けるはずだった…無念😢😢😢
来年は元気になって、必ず来てね🙏✨
Sorry you did not get to see the Mighty Cheap Trick! Hopefully, they will come around again soon.
Thank you!😊💕
I wish Bun was still on drums.
This is great. Surprisingly we all walk the same after 40 plus years
I remember seeing them at the Stone Hearth in Madison in the early 70's.
.....excellent!
Good sound and good coordination on musical instruments.💭💤👀
First time I heared this band group.

Thank you UA-cam for preserving the Bun E years.
Awsome
No Bun E. Carlos, no Cheap Trick.
I clicked on this to hear the intro. Not bad, but not Bun E.
Exactly...theres only 1 bun e Carlos...isnt that Ricks son?

Rick is one of the most under rated guitarists out there. Just crazy cool, making gin.

Is this at The Devon?
Yes
Is that Rick's son on drums?
Yes. It's his youngest son, Daxx.
But, you have to admit. This is a pretty pretty good Cheap Trick cover band.
It's time!! ROCK ISN'T DEAD!! IT'S BEEN SURPRESSED??? LIVE AIDE ?? FOR FLORIDA!!! AS MANY BANFS U CAN ???
Aint that a shame how CT cancelled all the UK tour dates 3 times rescheduled during covid then totally. Any chance of a reschedule CT ?
These guys (*with Bun at the time) were good enough to play with John Lennon. Nuff said.
So was Yoko.
Needs more cowbell
Where's Bun E. Carlos???
Is that the original Drummer???
No. The current drummer is one of Rick Nielsen's sons - Daxx.

Bring back Bun E.Carlos who did take legal action against Rick and the boys to ensure he received proper royalties on all sales and concerts.
They look kinda bored.
That's not the real drummer?
What a cheap trick!

They canned Bun E for him lol dudes boring looks like hes phoning it in
