  • On the Casio CT-X3000 two tones can be played at the same time by pressing the Upper Layer button. Combining a percussive sound with a sustained sound can be very effective. The octave position of each sound can be adjusted too. The keyboard also allows you to layer two sounds in the lower part of the keyboard by using the Split function.

    Thank you Stewart for these very helpful videos. I am a 68 year old song writer with limited understanding of the electric keyboards but I know by using these functions on the Casio CT-x3000 I can create a beautiful melody with every song I write. Please continue making these videos. May God Bless You

    Thank you very much. I'm glad you choose good sonds as the examples, so this gives us ideas for creativity. I noticed that we can use this instrument to create lots of sonds nicer than the originals, like painters do with colours. I salut you from Portugal.

    Hi Stewart. Can the volumes of the layers be altered independently? And is it easily done on the fly?

    • @StewartWallaceSJWMusic
      @StewartWallaceSJWMusic  3 роки тому +7

      Yes. Create a U1 and U2 layer by pressing the UPPER LAYER button. Select the U2 tone you require. Short press PART (red light comes on) and use -/+ to select ”1-9 Keyboard”. Short press PART again. Red light goes off.
      Next long press MIXER. It should say MIXER KEYBOARD at the bottom of the display. Use up and down arrows until you find Volume. Use left and right arrows to select the part you want to adjust. 1 is U1, 2 is U2, 3 is L1, 4 is L1. Use the wheel to adjust the volume. Save it in a registration memory.
      Alternatively an expression pedal can adjust volume in real time. New video coming soon!
      Hope that helps!

      @@StewartWallaceSJWMusic thank you so much. Your videos are so clear. I think casio is a great company and have been tooking at this for a while to busk, gig and do church keyboards. Do we have a way to adjust the volume of upper 2 sound/layer

    • @StewartWallaceSJWMusic
      @StewartWallaceSJWMusic  2 місяці тому

      Yes, it's through the PART/MIXER button. Long press (LP) the button to get into the MIXER and make sure you're in the keyboard part section - it should say MIXER KEYBOARD in small lettering on the bottom line of the display.
      Use the UP (5) & DOWN (2) arrows on the keypad to scroll through the various parameters - PART, VOLUME, PAN, REV SEND, CHO SEND, DLY SEND. The LEFT (1) & RIGHT (3) arrows on the keypad will select the parts.
      U2 is simply part 2 and on the display you should now see a small number 2 in a box flashing. Now just select the parameter (VOLUME) and change the value using the wheel or -/+ buttons, or press NUM (0) on the keypad and then type a 3-digit value. If you save a registration then each one can have different settings, so that's very useful. I hope that helps!

    Thanks these videos are a great help. However I don’t seem to be able to get back to tone selection after using upper layer and octave selected functions. Probably something simple but can’t figure

    • @StewartWallaceSJWMusic
      @StewartWallaceSJWMusic  2 роки тому

      If you press the TONE button it should get you back to selection mode. And if you're using layers and splits, hold down the TONE button you should also see the little cursor on the left side of the display switch between U1, U2, L1, L2 and then you can select your tones for each in turn. I hope that helps - let me know if it doesn't sort out the issue! All the best.

      Actually I'm just in the process of making another video about layers, which will include this topic. In the meantime, here's the method to turn down the volume in words:
      1. Create your U2 layer.
      2. Short press (SP) the PART/MIXER button so the red LED comes on.
      3. There are 5 part groups on the keyboard (see the manual page EN-64) - you want the KEYBOARD group and you should see "1-9 Keyboard" on the display. If it's not already selected, use the +/- arrows to select this group.
      4. SP the PART/MIXER button so the red LED goes out.
      5. Now long press (LP) the PART/MIXER button so that you're in MIXER mode.
      6. The up and down arrows on the keypad (5 is up, 2 is down) will scroll through several items - Part, Volume, Pan, Reverb, Chorus, and Delay (see the manual page EN-66). Select VOLUME.
      7. On the display you will see a row of 9 numbers. 1 is Upper Layer 1 and 2 is Upper Layer 2. (See page EN-65 for the full list). Use the left and right arrows on the keypad (1 is left, 3 is right) so that number 2 is flashing.
      8. Now you can adjust the volume of U2 with the DATA WHEEL. Alternatively, press NUM (0) on the keyboard and then type a 3 digit value.
      9. That's it! Save it as a registration and then it will be easy to recall.
      If you have a volume pedal then you can set up the keyboard so that only U2 responds to it and you can fade the strings in and out as you play.
      I hope that helps. Check out my other videos and the new one - it will feature using PORTAMENTO and SUSTAIN to create some really neat layers. All the best. 😎

    how about long press the Upper layer button?
    it lights up the LOWER LAYER but i dont hear any difference

    • @StewartWallaceSJWMusic
      @StewartWallaceSJWMusic  2 роки тому

      The keyword to remember is LAYER - it's adding a layer to something that exists.
      When the display reads "U1" that means "Upper 1" - in other words a single TONE without a LAYER. Press SPLIT and you now get a split with a single TONE in the left hand region - "L1".
      If you now do a Short Press (SP) of the UPPER LAYER button you've layered a TONE - "U2" - with "U1". We've still got the single split TONE in the left hand region. Now the display reads "U1", "U2", "L1".
      Now do a Long Press (LP) of the UPPER LAYER button and you've layered a TONE - "L2" - with "L1". The display reads "U1", "U2", "L1", "L2".
      I know it looks confusing because there's also a mark next to LOWER LAYER on the display. But if you remove the "L1" split there won't be anything for "L2" to layer with.
      Remember "U2" (Upper 2) and "L2" (Lower 2) are LAYERS.
      I hope that helps. All the best.

      Sorry for the delay in replying - you may have already solved it! If not, there are a couple of ways of doing it. You can do it either via the FUNCTION button or with the OCTAVE button on the keyboard:
      1. Short press the FUNCTION button. Use the left/right arrows on the keypad to find OCTAVE page. Press ENTER on the keypad. Use the wheel or -/+ buttons to change the octave value. Save it as a registration then you can come back to it quickly.
      2. Press the OCTAVE button. Use the left/right arrows to switch between and select the layer you want to adjust. Use the wheel or -/+ buttons to change the octave value. Save it as a registration.
      Hope that helps. 😎

    • @StewartWallaceSJWMusic
      @StewartWallaceSJWMusic  2 роки тому

      Yep - for the CT-X3000 you'll need a stereo 1/4 jack cable split into two mono 1/4 inch jacks. The CT-X5000 has separate L & R outputs. For that you can use either one mono 1/4 inch jack to jack cable, or if you want to send a stereo mix to the PA then you'll need two. I hope that helps. All the best.

    Hey! When i try to use upper layer on a recording it take the upper layer off how do i keep the upper layer on through a recording?

    • @StewartWallaceSJWMusic
      @StewartWallaceSJWMusic  Рік тому

      Layers and splits can only be recorded into the system track - take a look at the manual EN-90 for more detail. You may find that some of the settings, such as portamento and sustain, that you've set in your layers and splits are turned off as you go to record. So make sure these are back on if required. Then you should be able to record your layers and splits. The other tracks 1-16 are called Solo Tracks and will only record U1, though again you can apply arpeggiator, octave, tuning, portamento, sustain etc settings to these and they should be recorded. I hope that helps with your recording. All the best. 👍
