Thank you so much. I'm a fourth year med student, so I'm facing the same problem, difficulty integrating school studies with step 1 prep, so hearing about your routine & experience helps a lot, really aprpeciate it.
I am a second-year medical student if we assume that we study the cardiovascular system in university, I do not study from university books, nor do I attend lectures, from where should I study the topics? What are your recommendations (videos, books, or .... )? يعني اي ترشيحاتك لمذاكرة المحتوى لأول مره وليس للمراجعة
I would recommend studying from your Uni books and try to understand everything you read. Use UA-cam, Google, etc. for things you don't understand. You could also use Costanzo physiology and Robbins pathology for reference. You could use pathoma or B&B for reviewing what you had learned, reinforcing high-yield concepts, and learning new stuff. Check out this video if you haven't already: ua-cam.com/video/2keiZFipHCU/v-deo.html
My step 1 exam simulated UWorld more than anything else More than 85% questions were uworld style feww that were from First Aid knowledge only and few from basic science knowledge only! Amboss is quite helpful though, couldn’t do even 50% of it though but nbmes didn’t help thattttt much as I had heard they do as far as my case is concerned but I would definitely recommend ppl to do one or two nbmes after step 1 first pass I mean before doing wrongs and marked and do nbmes every time you are a bit too boosted up or burned out to study it would keep you on track (ps one of my biggest misses were just these) if you did these (UWorld and wrongs and did at least fine on nbmes) well there definitely is no need for second pass of uworld for it is pass fail now but don’t let the “pass/ fail” thing get too high to your head Cz the easier you’ll take it the tougher it’s gonna get by the end time of prep stay focused (what I lacked and regretted in the end ) and also everyone says step 1 is vip for step 2 (ps i have to start yet so cannot say from personal experience how much exactly it helps ) Good luck!! 👍🏻
One thing I have noticed is that you emphasize the importance of doing banks and NBMEs for prep. But even if someone has a strong foundation in uni and delved directly into solving banks without reviewing the material again (watching boards, reading First Aid, ...), wouldn't this undermine his scores on AMBOSS, Uworld, or the NBMEs? I am asking this question because the USMLE gurus on youtube show how high their test bank scores are and I would like to know if this is necessarily an indicator of the actual score. Thank you for everything!
I think it's important to start Qbanks as early as possible even if you're scoring very low. My first ever qbank was a relatively low % correct, and every time I did another qbank my percentage increased steadily. I felt like this was the quickest and most efficient way to increase my scores. If you're worried about scoring very low on the NBMEs, AMBOSS and UWorld, I would recommend starting with Rx Qbank. It's okay to be scoring very low when you start even if you have a decent foundation. If you feel your foundation is not as good or you want content review, I'd recommend reading most of the Qbank explanations.
Thanks a lot I have weak basics so I have to study and then practice Could I watch a video like B&B and learn through the video actively(by taking notes and explain it to myself) and then do Anki? And not reread the textbooks By this step, my resources are the videos and Anki Do you recommend that?
what if i have very weak basics ?, this a big problem to me. how can i understand for example CVS physiology or pathology just by solving QS and reading their explanations espescially with weak basics ? TIA
Yeah, I believe Qbanks will help even if your foundation is weak. You could start with UWorld then move on to AMBOSS and finally the NBMEs. You could supplement them with pathoma or B&B for your very weak topics.
Tysm for this video,i have a quis which isn't related to step1..could u tell us about your lifestyle as a medical student like what u did at 6:16..like,what was your daily schedule
I tried to work out regularly, hangout with friends, did lots of research, and played video games like COD and FIFA/PES. Will try to talk about this in more detail in another video.
Hi Yousef, while solving questions from a qbank would you care noting down important information at some place like annotating First Aid so that you could come back later to review or would you rather just go on and rely on repetition of concepts in the qbanks?
How should I start my Step 1 prep if I have a good foundation in Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, and Physiology? Should I start with Qbanks to help me fill in my gaps of knowledge in all the other subjects or use Boards and Beyond/Anki?
I used Wikipedia for reference sometimes. For UA-cam, I watched 1 or 2 videos of dirty medicine and Randy Neil. They were decent, so check them out. Otherwise, I didn't rely much on UA-cam videos for my prep.
I didn't review anything specific. I was always doing Qbanks random timed almost everyday + Anki reviews, which was enough to retain everything I learn. If you haven't already, you could check my previous video for more detail: ua-cam.com/video/2keiZFipHCU/v-deo.html
How to build foundations in the med school in the academic subjects, Do you Recommend specific Textbooks ? or were they the Textbooks of the Alexandria medical school? Will the books of the Alexandria medical school be useful to me instead of my school books? and Thank You Very Much Dr Yousef and Your Time ❤️.
No not necessarily, I'd recommend sticking to your Uni's books better. You could use Costanzo (physiology) and Robbins (pathology) for reference. Try to *understand* everything whether it's Uni, textbook, or USMLE.
Do you think that studying and approaching step 1 as a 3 digit score exam is a good idea for the purposes of acing step 2 ck? I’m currently in my 3rd year planning to take it at the end of next year “beginning of year 4” “5 years program”, thanks for your help Yousef!
Yeah, absolutely, there's significant overlap between both steps. I'd recommend studying hard for step 1 even if it's going p/f cuz it'll help you understand a lot of concepts on step 2.
If you're gonna take step 1 p/f, definitely start off with UWorld. They have great explanations. Keep AMBOSS till the end as it's harder and resembles the exam more.

Thank You dr.Tanas for video. Would you be kind to tell, how to manage last 2 weeks before exam? You have mentioned in first video , that last 2 weeks was focus on NBMEs. How was your approach these 2 weeks? Thanks ahead.
Last 2 weeks I took an NBME every other day. The day after taking an NBME, I reviewed all the educational objectives and sometimes the explanations of difficult questions.
One more question about NBMEs. Did you have a feeling during your exam that you were getting repeated questions from NBMEs alongside with same concepts? Thanks ahead, dr. Tanas.
@@iabezhanidze4592 yeahhh definitely the concepts repeat. The style of questions is very similar, but my form was a bit more difficult than NBME 25. I got 1 or 2 repeats from free 120.
