The return of my favorite band, the group that has defined my musical tastes and drive to create since my early adolescence! Here we fucking go again. 🤘
A bittersweet feeling this, on one hand I’m crying coz they’re back, but at the same time a little depressed that Colin isn’t a part of the band anymore, but still very excited about the album🙌🏻
Oh my god... Oh my god! New Porcupine Tree!!!! This is the best day of the decade! I discovered this on the comments section of Bonnie the Cat. My hands were freaking shivering, and still are, from the sheer excitement of the moment.
The way gavin described PT he referenced as more than a band but a movement. Sounds pretty bold to me. I'm guessing if he doesnt fully get involved in the writing process he enjoys the opportunity to add his own distinct flavour. Barbieri is great as well im guessing he can sort of go ad-lib ontop of steven and gavin (i could be wrong i have no idea how the process works for song writing ahaha!)
Whoever’s reading this, I want you to know you have a great taste in music. Cualquiera que lea esto, quiero que sepas que tienes un gran gusto musical.
It's only now I've heard some fresh porcupine tree material that I realise how much I've missed hearing Gavin Harrisons playing in PT. The man designs rythms like no other. I'm so excited for this album 😁
That’s how old I am now and right about a month or so before turning 19 a great friend showed me this band great death and many others and I listen to almost all of them daily it’s been almost 2 months since then and I even got a freaking guitar to play some of their songs along with adding new things to my own
That was me at the age of 15 and 22ish 😁 either way it’s so good to see them back together! Fell in love with them just right when Steve shifted his focus to solo work (GFD era), was super sad they went on long hiatus
discovered PT around 14 or 15, been obsessed ever since. they changed my life and led me to discover such amazing records. SW became one of my favorite artists ever. it always hurt me that i would never see the band live. im turning 19 this month, so much has changed in my life, and this just feels... amazing. such a relief to be able to listen to something new from them
Hearing Barbieri's always atmospheric contributions with Gavin and Steven once again is a joy to behold. Tis sad that Colin doesn't appear to be involved, would be interested to hear who has been filling his shoes...
Sadly, if the promotional material is any indication, Colin's not with the band anymore. Still loving this song but it's a real shame nonetheless, I always loved Colin's basswork.
Welcome! Be sure to check out Gavin Harrison's other project, The Pineapple Thief! He's been their drummer on the last 3 records; 'Your Wilderness', 'Dissolution", and 'Versions Of The Truth', and currently on tour with them! 🎶🍺
Never imagined this day will come. God bless whoever/whatever made Steven re-unite with Gavin and Richard. All of these 3 legends can do wonders in any of the projects, they're involved in. But, real Magic happens when they come together. Desperately waiting for the tour ❤️
C/C has to be the best prog album of the last 25 years, maybe more. And I love "Fear of a blank planet" to the last note and Steven's feet scratching bit, but this one is just beyond words, seriously. These guys are unreal.
I wish I felt like this. This is their only album so far that just hasn’t clicked for me yet, after about a dozen listens even. Hopefully I’ll start to appreciate it eventually but right now I think I enjoy the other albums much more :)
The bit beginning at 3:09 makes you sit up and expect something spectacular coming up. And yet, when it hits at 3:19, it still makes the hair on my neck stand. This reunion is the best news all year.
Found PT on a Prog post during a bored COVID weekend. Hey, I'll try them out. My Prog listening life started out back in the 70s with Yes, Genesis, Tull, Floyd... but I have to say that these guys are now at the top of the list. Magnificent compositions. Hope they make a visit to the US at some point.
Make sure to check the band members solo projects too. Steven has many solo albums and Gavin does work with lots of other bands. Absolute mountain of music from these lads.
OK so probably this is what Steven meant by saying "I'm working on two albums... one will be a continuation of Future Bites and the other one will be more guitar-oriented"?!
@@ikarusxv Damn right. I saw numerous interviews in the last 2 or 3 years in which he was telling that PT was a thing of the past and that it would never reunite
@@omairsh8 They are absolutely one of those bands I would say see to them while you have a chance. I saw them during fear of a blank planet and then for the incident and both were fantastic shows.
The fact that they’ll drop the NEW PORCUPINE TREE RECORD (feels so unreal to say still) on my 20th birthday just makes this that much more special to me… I’m beyond stoked for the new music!
NEVER ?! wow... So, just one thing to say : WELCOME IN THE 'TREE', man ! You're gonna have the chance to discover both their unexpected return AND almost thirty years of great recordings & live performances ! ;)
@@hugemetalfan6664 I see your "HugeMetalFan666" alias, and so... , I think maybe you should start with the "In Absentia" (2002) and "Deadwing" (2005) albums. (the ones with the most Metal-prog elements through the tracks). And one of the best songs to recommend, definitely : the masterpiece "Anesthetize" (17'41 long !) from the great 2007 album "Fear Of A Blank Planet". 😎 ENJOY !
@@hugemetalfan6664 Dude you need to go back in time and listen to EVERYTHING! Anesthetize, Arriving Somewhere but Not Here. Too many songs to count. It will make you literally cry it is so good. HOLY SHIT. Go back and listen to everything and buckle up!!!!!!
Yeah, like others have said, buckle up. PT is a deep and blissful hole. Their newer albums have Gavin Harrison as their drummer. Arriving Somewhere but not Here, Anesthetize are two of their greatest hits imho. Welcome to the Tree!!!
I didn't think I'd ever hear a new Porcupine Tree song in my lifetime since I became a fan after they went on hiatus. Gavin sounds amazing as expected.
This just suddenly came out of nowhere, they did a great job of keeping it un-leaked and it joyously took us by surprise. It's always such a good feeling to be so pleasantly surprised; maybe a lot of us had said our inner goodbyes to PT and moved on. NOW out of freaking nowhere they re-appear. In a world where things have been changing daily for the worst, this is such a welcome feeling.
this, my friends, is what has been lost in music industry in general in the last decades because of Loudness War, and is called DYNAMIC RANGE, and this song is one of those rarities in music that keeps a good dynamic range, just as the music used to be before the 2000's
This is sexy af. Gavin is SUCH a beast! All of them are. One of the things I love about PT is their ability to throw down such HEAVY CRUNCHY METAL NASTINESS and yet remain overall nuanced and nimble and dance through all these other vibes... DAMN! Loving this.
Gavin is the best drummer I've ever seen. Feeling those drums all over your body & in your brain...it truly changed me. I'd do anything to see them again.
"In February 2021, Wilson suggested that a reformation was still possible someday, when it was least expected." And this was least expected! Porcupine Tree is back! \m/
The reverb on Steven’s vocals is not conventional at all and I am HERE FOR IT! Porcupine Tree returning has been the best thing to happen in a very long time. 🥰
Can only imagine how magnificent Gavin would make this sound on the live sets later next year. Wilson man, more power to you! “I am in debt tonight, and gone to earth for love”
This was certainly worth waiting 12 years for. In hindsight, i'm happy they didn't continue after The Incident. It would probably have resulted in an album which didn't live up to their standards. More of the same so to say, no progression. This sounds like something fresh and new while still being totally Porcupine Tree. Can't wait to hear the rest of the album!
Funny thing is that this and couple of other the upcoming songs were written around The Incident era to be follow up for a new PT album. I guess he then explored these type of ideas for Raven and HCE and they held these song ideas on a hard drive waiting for a better moment.
@@northtimo666 well it sounds to me that there were demos written after The Incident (like the last social media post also mentions) which was probably a rough demo or sketch. But you can clearly hear a lot of elements in here which Steven developed pretty late in his solo works. There is more advanced harmony in here which is indeed from his Raven/HCE period. But aspects of his vocal delivery are very similar to stuff from To the bone and TFB. Some of these arpeggiating synths are also very much his style from his last two albums.
@@ShatteredArm1 i tend to agree, there are a lot of great moments on there but also some "fillers" on disk 1. And I guess they felt that a direct follow up would be "even less" than The Incident. In my opinion, FOABP fulfilled the ambition of what The Incident is supposed to be better as it is more cohesive and concise.
1:57 is one of the moments of pure brilliance by Gavin Harrison. For a large part, this song is written is 5/4, which gives the song a really nice sense of hesitation. In this section, Stevens sings "Like the Harridan your are" as an anacrusis for the new theme starts at the 1. That new theme has a spacious groove to it. So instead of drumming to the 1, Gavin extends his 16ths until the 2. This adds perfectly to the goove of the next theme and the song overall, and at the same time it's so distinctive and creative. Amazing stuff!
Gavin typically plays against the bar. The polyrhythms they create are stellar. My fav so for is in Anesthesize after the long intro going into 4 (Gavin) over the heavy guitar riff in 5. So much of this stuff. Fun to try to figure out!
A moment of silence for all the fans who couldn't make it to listen to this. And congratulations to all the ones who are here with us. I'm just happy that I am alive for this
I was just browsing through Spotify, clicking on bands to see what was available and noticed this new song. I died. I never thought I'd hear another new PT album. That made my day! And this song is addictive! Fuck yes!
The news is the Steven's vocal versality... fantasizing and touching parts... during all the song he sings like a perfect Live Man!!! Courage and himself knowledge as a singer...
Steven Wilson solo work is simply excellent and he's continually pushing the boundaries of his musicality, but there is something within the PT "collaboration" that is unique. The musicians all bringing their own flavours to the mix in a similarly progressive way. PT has moved on by the sounds of things but seems to have kept their sonic vibe. On the strength of this track we are in for a treat!

It is good, but nothing beats the song 'Vapour on the H2O' by Intense Violet
That breakdown teleported me back in time to my first time hearing Anesthetize, what a band

The return of my favorite band, the group that has defined my musical tastes and drive to create since my early adolescence!
Here we fucking go again. 🤘
Oh how I missed Barbieri's soundscapes. Back with a vengeance.
Barbieri had also done solo stuff.
Eight minutes of glorious, semi-heavy progressive rock. To be followed by eight months of waiting for the full album.
I KNOW. All I am worried I am gonna listen to this way too many times.
Surely there'll be more singles 🙏
Worth it!!! It's PT. Something we though was forever gone. Patience grasshopper
...to be followed by 8 years before another one comes out 😅
@@marcop1587 we waited for TooL 😂
This is like 4 songs in one, so many differing emotions. Will need to really let this one sink in. So good having them back.
Yeah. I love that. Long-form songs. The heart of what is called "prog-rock". I already like this song alot.
I am crying. Thank you, PT. We missed you. ♥️
A bittersweet feeling this, on one hand I’m crying coz they’re back, but at the same time a little depressed that Colin isn’t a part of the band anymore, but still very excited about the album🙌🏻
I share your sentiment. I truly enjoyed Colin's restrained touch, tasteful licks and his subdued stage presence.
@@taylorpilewski the bloke always smiled, quite contrasting to what the theme of their music was, absolute class musician!
Colin heard that bassline and said "I think you guys got this covered"
what happened to the bassist? he was so good live. (not a hard core PT fan but I listen to them from time to time)
Oh my god... Oh my god! New Porcupine Tree!!!! This is the best day of the decade! I discovered this on the comments section of Bonnie the Cat. My hands were freaking shivering, and still are, from the sheer excitement of the moment.
I cried while hearing this. PT is finally back after 12 years. I still cant believe it 😍
The way gavin described PT he referenced as more than a band but a movement.
They should have named this album "In Hiatus"
The Greatest Comeback Of All Time.
Whoever’s reading this, I want you to know you have a great taste in music.
Right back at ya!
It's only now I've heard some fresh porcupine tree material that I realise how much I've missed hearing Gavin Harrisons playing in PT. The man designs rythms like no other. I'm so excited for this album 😁
Back at the time when I was 19, I was in love and listened Porcupine Tree every day.
Thank you!
SW became one of my favorite artists ever. it always hurt me that i would never see the band live. im turning 19 this month, so much has changed in my life, and this just feels... amazing. such a relief to be able to listen to something new from them
I'm 62 and I discovered them at 59, becoming a bigger fan with each expanded listen.
Hearing Barbieri's always atmospheric contributions with Gavin and Steven once again is a joy to behold. Tis sad that Colin doesn't appear to be involved, would be interested to hear who has been filling his shoes...
It could be Steven on bass as he wrote a lot of the bass on his solo records but it does sound a bit like Nick Beggs
@@dantess2693 A few people are guessing Nick Beggs here... maybe all will be revealed sometime soon...
We need Colin
Please don't be Nick Beggs filling in for Colin. Beggs is a good bassist but I've always thought he's a bit too 'flashy' of a bassist
Sadly, if the promotional material is any indication, Colin's not with the band anymore. Still loving this song but it's a real shame nonetheless, I always loved Colin's basswork.
I got to know about this band just a week ago and now I’m totally addicted♾♾
Welcome to PT 🌍 - what kept you?
welcome to the club!
Welcome! Be sure to check out Gavin Harrison's other project, The Pineapple Thief! He's been their drummer on the last 3 records; 'Your Wilderness', 'Dissolution", and 'Versions Of The Truth', and currently on tour with them! 🎶🍺
One of the planet's best drummers - tearing it up again. Gavin is amazing! This is brilliant!
Never imagined this day will come. God bless whoever/whatever made Steven re-unite with Gavin and Richard.
All of these 3 legends can do wonders in any of the projects, they're involved in. But, real Magic happens when they come together.
Desperately waiting for the tour ❤️
I guess ABBA reforming was all Steve needed to see!
I've never heard him called Steve, j/s.
Steven saw it the day before you came funnily enough. 😆
I fucking laughed my ass off!
LMAO!
Forget the Kardashians, you just broke the Internet!
LMAOOOO ABSOLUTELY NOT HAHAHAHAHHA
@@greatcoldemptiness absolutely yes.
Absolutely not. Its not even best porcupine tree album
The bit beginning at 3:09 makes you sit up and expect something spectacular coming up. And yet, when it hits at 3:19, it still makes the hair on my neck stand. This reunion is the best news all year.
This is a day that will become history. Thank you Porcupine Tree ❤️🔥
I can't believe I'm actually listening to a new pt song ❤️🥺
"sir" Gavin Harrison is a pure architect
And this is the example of pure architecture 🙌❤️
Love from india🇮🇳
Must be. That's what I think as well.
and all this after saying that he was bored of guitar and that there was nothing more to do with rock music...
@@ikarusxv Damn right. I saw numerous interviews in the last 2 or 3 years in which he was telling that PT was a thing of the past and that it would never reunite
Maybe storm corrosion??
Maybe one last album
I literally cried when I saw the announcement and this song dropped yesterday. Cannot tell you how much this band means to me.
That Signify Keyboard sound man, THANK U RICHARD!!!!
Thank you Steven, Richard and Gavin for this new music❤️. We miss see Colin and John in the band, but life stills go on😓.
John will play for sure, I am sure. I'll eat my socks if he is not in the band for touring ;)
Steven's voice with Gavin's drums! And the whole musical landscape, so recognizable. How long a have been waiting for it!
Roundabout by YES was the neхt loud listening just after Harridan 5 times non stop!!! Pure PROG joy and happiness, today is the day!
I’m so happy that I’m in tears… Thank you Porcupine Tree… Thank you
Words can't describe how happy I am that PORCUPINE TREE IS BACK!
Barbieri's soundscapes are back on the menu boys
That's a big part of the Porcupine Tree 'sound' which is really unique for the broad range of sonic scapes the music inhabits.
LOTR. I see what you did there
Agree.unique
Barbieri’s creativity knows no bounds. Put him together with SW, the result is always explosive.
@@BlackAngel-wk1ir the prophet synth as spoken
I’m crying. I haven’t seen PT since high school. Can’t wait for the whole album and tour!!!
I never got a chance to see them live. Will NOT be missing their when they come around
@@omairsh8 They are absolutely one of those bands I would say see to them while you have a chance. I saw them during fear of a blank planet and then for the incident and both were fantastic shows.
Finally our cries for reuniting PT were heard. Gavin is phenomenal on this. I love the excitement PT’s music always evokes.
Overwhelmed with absolute joy. One of my most beloved bands are back, and I never would have seen it coming.
The fact that they’ll drop the NEW PORCUPINE TREE RECORD (feels so unreal to say still) on my 20th birthday just makes this that much more special to me… I’m beyond stoked for the new music!
Me as well. June 24th 2022 will be my 60th birthday !
Jonathan Kilbey no way!! That’s awesome! Great taste in birthdays and music! 🤘🏻:D
Good to hear that a 20 year old is into real music. Not the rubbish that's out there today. CHEERS!!
@@markmedina5543 There's also great music today, and luckily there's no age for that !
It's cool we got some young blood amongst the crowd.
The return of something beautiful
PT , Opeth and Tool are few modern bands that could come up with 8 minutes song but still feels quite short :D
Exactly
Those are my 3 favorite bands…😁
I have to remark the obligatory "new Opeth sucks". Sorry about that.
The holy trinity
Add the Mars Volta to that list
I have never listen to this band before but this song sounds awesome AF!!!!!!!!!!
NEVER ?! wow... So, just one thing to say : WELCOME IN THE 'TREE', man ! You're gonna have the chance to discover both their unexpected return AND almost thirty years of great recordings & live performances ! ;)
@@julianjoyce2577 yes FIRST TIME EVER LISTENING TO THEM. I heard of these before but NOT their music though. Oh damn I can’t wait to hear it.
I am 61 and have been listening to Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd etc. for virtually my entire life (well since age 10 anyway). And I love those bands and always will. BUT. THESE GUYS! THESE FUCKING GUYS!!
YES!
No, PT 😌
I didn't think I'd ever hear a new Porcupine Tree song in my lifetime since I became a fan after they went on hiatus. Gavin sounds amazing as expected.
This just suddenly came out of nowhere, they did a great job of keeping it un-leaked and it joyously took us by surprise. It's always such a good feeling to be so pleasantly surprised; maybe a lot of us had said our inner goodbyes to PT and moved on. NOW out of freaking nowhere they re-appear. In a world where things have been changing daily for the worst, this is such a welcome feeling.
Funky 5/4! Gotta love these guys.
The mixing on this instrumentally is fantastic. When the heavy hits it’s brutal but pristine clear too, especially the drums. Love Gavin’s sound.
Love how the kick drum and low bass notes are perfectly lined up during the heavy hits, to make it sound so brutal.
In addition to the amazing composer he is you realize he's an even better engineer/producer.
this, my friends, is what has been lost in music industry in general in the last decades because of Loudness War, and is called DYNAMIC RANGE, and this song is one of those rarities in music that keeps a good dynamic range, just as the music used to be before the 2000's
The Best!
pure quantic rock, pure synthetic rock
This is sexy af. Gavin is SUCH a beast! All of them are. One of the things I love about PT is their ability to throw down such HEAVY CRUNCHY METAL NASTINESS and yet remain overall nuanced and nimble and dance through all these other vibes... DAMN! Loving this.
Yeah, they have those Pink Floyd moments with great soundscapes and then push forward with a heavy metal riff
Gavin is the best drummer i've ever heard
let's hope the rest album is,
at least, this good.
Gavin is the best drummer I've ever seen. Feeling those drums all over your body & in your brain...it truly changed me. I'd do anything to see them again.
"In February 2021, Wilson suggested that a reformation was still possible someday, when it was least expected."
And this was least expected!
Brilliant. Gavin Harrison is a PHENOMENAL drummer!
I actually felt like The Incident didn't live up to their usual standards.
I vote this most interesting comment.
gee, thanks, completely-organic-commenter-and-totally-not-a-PR-bot!
THIS. I have been thinking about this since the moment I heard it. Gavin well and truly showed up for this. What a legend.
🤯🤯🤯
Gavin typically plays against the bar. The polyrhythms they create are stellar. My fav so for is in Anesthesize after the long intro going into 4 (Gavin) over the heavy guitar riff in 5. So much of this stuff. Fun to try to figure out!
A moment of silence for all the fans who couldn't make it to listen to this.
And congratulations to all the ones who are here with us.
I'm just happy that I am alive for this
If you don't think PT is played over the speakers in heaven, just like a theme park, you're mistaken.
We raise the goblets of rock. Eyes filled with an unbridled passion. We stand tall together.
Holy crap! I'm back in progressive rock heaven!
Can't wait to see PT live again. Please come and play in North America!!
Amen to ALL of that!
It's hard to imagine there are people out there that have not heard the magic that is Porcupine Tree! Gavin's kit sounds so damn crisp!
I was just browsing through Spotify, clicking on bands to see what was available and noticed this new song. I died. I never thought I'd hear another new PT album. That made my day! And this song is addictive! Fuck yes!
Rest in peace

It's criminal that this still doesn't have over a million views
A masterpiece again.
Millions of prayers have been answered. Thank you 🙏🏻
The news is the Steven's vocal versality... fantasizing and touching parts... during all the song he sings like a perfect Live Man!!!
Exactly what I think. I love his solo-stuff (yes, "The Future Bites" included, but, holy shit, I am overflowing with joy!
