I need your help and advise. I just brought one and wanted to update it. Does this unit have bluetooth or wifi. Activecaptian cannot find the unit and i cannot see on the menu any bluetooth.
@kiwiboycrypto This device does not have Bluetooth or wifi. It does have a SD card slot. That is how you will update the software. Below is a link to the official Garmin site with instructions on how to update. support.garmin.com/en-US/?partNumber=010-01885-05&tab=software
@@everydayguy.5580 you are a legend mate. I am trying to program this but not the greatest when it comes to computers or updates. Before I contacted you I did look at the Garman website but could not see where the update for my unit was on there site for my particular unit. Ecomap Plus 45CV so I thought I would ask you. It’s probably very simple, but I’m just trying to give my head around it I believe you’ve got the 43 CV mine is the 45CV not sure what the differences is. I’m just trying to find the area that I download. I was trying the ActiveCaptain, but it would not link. Guess I know why no Bluetooth lol. And do you have to leave the SD card in all the time or do you take it out once the update is done on the unit. Please let me know if you can see the area on where I can update for my particular unit that would be much appreciated. And again, thank you for taking the time to get back to me. Not many people like you around these days.
@@kiwiboy00 A lot of information there to unpack. First thing first the nomenclature. 43cv. 4 stands for the echomap series 4 inch screen. 3 in my case refers to US lakes and maps, yours is a 5 which means Canada lakes and maps. CV means clear view IE it was sold with the GT20 transducer as apposed to the DV whish is down view ie a different transducer. Long way of saying all Echomap 4x series are the same unit with different maps and transducers. The next issue what type of update are you wanting to do? Do you want to do the basic system update which will all the fixes for the unit as well as updates the details for the existing maps you already have, or are you wanting to add a new batch of maps like blue water, or us lakes? If you are wanting to add the additional lakes then you would have to purchase the maps which would come on a SD card you insert and reboot the device. If you are trying to update the device then this is where it gets a bit trickier. You have to get the correct type of micro SD card because the unit is a little finicky which is why I ever tried to update mine. After that you will need to download the software update to the properly formatted and supported SD card. Then insert the card to the unit and power it up. From what I have been able to gather it will automatically start the update process as the unit starts up. I hope this is helpful for you.
@@everydayguy.5580 thank you again for taking the time to respond. I have managed to download the update onto my SD card and will try to install it onto my Garman. I will let you know how it go. Really do appreciate all your help and advice.
@Conan Guthrie The box in the video is one that I made. It was a small design that is perfect for my kayak when I go fishing. I have a video of a larger one bellow, but it is a little big for my Kayak I usually use it with my inflatable boat or when I go camping. ua-cam.com/video/XNTdLRWHqn0/v-deo.html

I'm getting ready to buy a 44cv.
Yours is a 43cv? Do you know what the difference is?
I'm thinking it has something to do with the maps?
@Jeff_allen_ Yes, it is maps. The 3 indicates US lakes and streams. The 4 is blue water maps.
@@everydayguy.5580 so I'm in Michigan and only fish inland lakes. Can I make it a 43 map?
@Jeff_allen_ I believe you can, but you would have to buy the card with the maps on it. It is a great little unit I use mine on my kayak and love it.
Do you have any more information on that battery box?
