    very clear instructions - have changed this part before sorted out only blowing on 4

    This is a most informative video and it all went well following these instructions. Small hands would be useful for extracting the resistor pack and fitting the new one but other wise it's a straight forward job. That's once you know what's causing the fault and where VW have hidden the offending part. Thanks 😀👍

    Very useful, but definitely a very fiddly job. I think once you know the knack of how to turn it to get it out and the way to reinsert it, then it would take a lot less time than it took me. My fan now works on all settings again, and I can hear the radio again at normal levels! It was either being drowned out by the fan on the highest setting or from road noise because of opening the windows for air circulation. Mine is a 2007 Polo. The locations of the bolts for the glovebox are different, and more awkwardly placed. I needed a little ratchet wrench driver for 3 of them (in the glove box), and a normal screwdriver for 6 (underside of the glovebox).

    This video saved me a fortune by not sending my daughters car to the garage. I would just say that to access the unit unless you have a child's hand, it is easier to bend forward the bracket that is hanging in front of the resistor and then bend it back, other than that, thank you!!

    I cant get the glove box out, think it may be slightly different on the newer models, i have a 2020 polo match tsi. Ive unscrewed 6 bolts and taken off side panel but it seems very stuck in place on the right hand side still, any suggestions? There doesn't seem to be a bolt on the inside glove box at the back which I've seen in videos so wonder if this is the issue

    Something to keep in mind is that the reason most of these resistor packs fail is due to reduced air flow due to blocked cabin filters. Always replace (or at very least check) the cabin filter to prevent reoccurrence.

  • @calluna5030
    @calluna5030 10 місяців тому

    Just going to add that if you get a strange burning smell then the resistor has been put in the wrong way round and is touching the filter. It seems that this happens quite often for people attempting it the first time. It is all too easy to put it in the wrong way, but is hard to get it clicked in, but can appear to be properly seated. If you've got it round the correct way then it slots into the seated position very easily, at least on my Polo. The knack is knowing which way to present it and then which way to turn it to get it into position.

    I have a Polo (2011) with an electronic fan control with more than 4 settings and my fan doesn't work at all. Is the resistor still the problem and how can i diagnose?

    • @rstv84
      @rstv84  2 роки тому

      all vw cars have o-4 on the fan speeds so im not sure which model you have that has more than 4? It could still be the fan relay or possibly the fan has seized itself, you would need to remove the glovebox and check the power feed to the fan and see what voltage it is getting. Hope this helps

    Hey want to say a big Thank you. I did this for my sons car and save him a lot of money. It was straight forward. But since I've put it in the car the battery is draining and won't turn on. And the only conclusion that it's the worng heat resistor!! Bought it and gave car reg! But after putting it in and that battery was drained on every turn of the ignition. I took it out again and looked at old new one and can see that green part as a slight difference in the indents . So Q can this drain battery. I ordered another part and I think it's 100% the correct one. Sorry for waffle 😊

    • @roisinmcmahon1721
      @roisinmcmahon1721 Рік тому

      And forgot to mention it did work. 1,2,3,4 blower worked perfect. But could it be to much of surge if wrong fuse. Never had issues before this with starting the only after putting new one in. New Car battery was replaced around 6 months ago. Other that car has been solid. 👍

    • @rstv84
      @rstv84  Рік тому +1

      This could cause a drain yes. The question is was the new one making it work on all settings? The other wiring down there is for the fan itself. Maybe have a check and see if any other wires have been dislodged. A drain is usually cause by something big like an alternator or starter motor. Try removing the fuse for the internal fan see if it still drains. The other thing is how old is the battery when they have been fully drained sometimes they are knackered and a replacement would be something to consider.

    • @roisinmcmahon1721
      @roisinmcmahon1721 Рік тому

      So old one only working on 1 and 2 settings. So I did what you showed in video( THANK YOU) And when put in new one "and I was very caful of other wiring" it worked perfect all settings on fan worked brilliant.

    • @rstv84
      @rstv84  Рік тому

      Was the old one burnt out? If it has as the can do. Check it. Maybe the wires in the connector have joined slightly 🤔. Other wise you'll have to use a multimeter and start checking the draw on the battery. Good luck 👍

    • @rstv84
      @rstv84  2 роки тому

      Hi so either 2 things, firstly the heater matrix may be blocked this acts as a mini radiator taking the hot coolant into car, the ac works off a separate element or second it may be the flap control not closing properly, you may need to take it into a garage for them to check these issues. Good Luck!
