As a general pair of studio monitors, the JBLs would probably be my choice. The KRKs have too much my frequency emphasis, which would make them wear out the listener much faster, and it would cause the listener to take a lot of high frequency presence out of their mixes, which would result in duller mixes. Also, the JBLs have a much more clear mid range, which seems to me to be the most important focal point for smaller studio monitors.
I say all of this as an owner of the KRK 5s.

Robert Simpson I own the krks as well. The mids are are muddy from a hyped low mids/ lows. Just bought jbls

Can you do a comparison of small studio monitors in the future?
I would be radically interested in a versus of the following smaller ones:
    - Yamaha MSP 3
    - Presonus Eris 3.5
    - AKAI RPM3
    vs source track.
(Merry Christmas by the way... ))

Sounds like the JBLs, when paired with a subwoofer that is set very, *very* subtly to fill in some of the bottom octave, would be just about an audiophile-grade rig.

I've owned both (currently JBL). The JBLs have a wide open Soundstage, almost holographic 3D character whereas the KRKs sound bad if you move a few inches away from the sweet spot. However the KRK mixes translated cleaner and punchier in my car (possibly bc the speakers perhaps had similar characteristics). Both are good in their own way

      Krk bro.

    •  3 роки тому +2

There's not any monitor made for one music style in specific, don't look monitors to mix rap or trap, you must go for the most flat response monitor, for me, KRK got too much bass which makes you believe your songs have a good amount of bass when is not really like that, JBL have more flat response and the waveguide helps you to be more comfortable in your sweetspot.
It doest matter which music style you work, you must be wise at the time to pick a monitor for your studio and that means to forget about the music you make and start to think in the real sound you must have at the time to mix and master, not matter what style you do.

krk sound more rich beacuase it a a/b class amplifier, its nociable, just need to develop better twetters, the jbl is clear but has no contagious, in my opinion krk are better overall, but the jbl has good energy saving because of the class D, wich will save more money in the end.

    • @joshsmith7812
      @joshsmith7812 5 років тому +9

No that's actually the opposite, if the speaker is already giving you a warm sound and low end/mid boost, you're not going to focus on perfecting those (unless you really know your krks, you can get good mixes with them) but the JBL is balanced meaning it's easier to hear what you should boost and cut in the mix, if you have a speaker that's not balanced, getting a balanced mix on them is more difficult because you have to compensate for that, if your speakers are really bright already and your aim is to have a bright sounding mix, it isn't always easy to go about achieving that because your speakers already sound bright, instead of being overall tonally balanced where it's easier to then take away certain freqs and give your track what if needs to make it sound warm and bright - and it'll then translate well to other systems
If you've made a mix on bright sounding speakers, when it's played on other systems and less bright systems it (could) not sound good.
So I'm not saying you can't make good mixes with krks but I find they're too warm and punchy for my liking (great for listening to music) but I want to perfect my mixes on a speaker that reveals flaws and weak points in the track so that it sounds even better when played on other speakers.
