Back in the day as a shave tail 2LT in the Ordnance Corps at the school at Aberdeen, MD, we had to remove a valve spring on a M151 vehicle. I had paired up with another 2LT who knew one end of the wrench from the other so we did OK. On our engine one of the valves was missing a retainer and most of the brass fittings for the fuel system were totally round nutted from having multiple classes come through the shop over the years. After the exercise we drove them around near the shop and went on the the next class. Those poor M151s were junk. Ours had only 75 miles on it IIRC and had been thoroughly trashed.
So, my daughter calls me last week saying her 06 Mercury Milan (3.0L) sounded like a golf cart. I went and checked it out and had cyl 1 misfire code. Found the coil melted and a plug blow out. We just bought this car about a month ago. Near as I can tell, someone stripped the threads and had the plug wedged in with the coil. Now it's my problem to deal with. I'm pulling the head and if I can get a Helicoil to work then great but, I suspect I'll need to replace the head. To that end, would you recommend replacing the timing chains since I'm there already? Car has 72000 miles. Also do you know where I can pick up the tightening sequence and torque specs for the head, timing cover, intake and valve covers? BTW - Excellent video!!
Hello, just found this channel and was wondering where your shop is located and if you have a phone number to call? ford reconditioned heads, 18months use and b1 cyl1 sucked exhaust valve. local machine shop told me they dont have 8mm valve guide tool and it would not be cost effective to repair. Im one that would like to try anyway. pls let me know your location/contact info. thank you.
Hey an engine is an engine and certain things are common among them.....great job.........got make a living working on something to go play with Vintage engines!
