    I was at Home Depot the other day and I found a scindapsus at the back of a shelf. It looked so sad and it really needed a drink! I asked for a discount and ended up getting it for 2 dollars! Brought it home and immediately gave it some water, but after a while I realized it was still looking super sad so I took it out of its pot and found that it had root rot. I washed the roots, took the rotted ones off and put it in some water. I really hope it lives! I've only had plants for about 8 months so I'm quite new so if anyone has some suggestions I'd really appreciate it! Also love your vids! keep up the great work!

      What you've done is great, if you leave the jar of water on a bright warm window sill it'll root so fast!

      that's an awesome deal! water was definitely a good choice ahah, always good to keep an eye on it. i'd recommend taking some cuttings and propagating them in water just in case the original plant dies.

    Yay, I voted for plant chores video so thank you so much for this! I watched this while dusting my plants 😊
    Also, I recently brought home a burgundy rubber tree and it was infested with spider mites (my first and last time buying from Lowe's). I tried neem oil solution for about a week and they were still crawling all over the plant. I bought Safer's End All spray and I kid you not, 4 days later, not a single webbing or spider mite in sight! I ended up hosing the plant down to the roots and repotting. Happy to say that I have checked it daily since and so far, no pests! I even mixed mosquito bits into the soil and it got rid of the gnats as well 😁

      Lowe’s is not bad! I have had some really good finds. I got a huge pothos and good sized scindapsus exotica and monstera adonsonii for under $10 each. They are still alive and beautiful to this day. I’d give them another try or another Lowe’s and just check the plant thoroughly although I have been lucky and I’ve never gotten a plant with pests from anywhere and I never look (shame on me).

  • @shardaemendez8554

    Why dont you just leave the moss on the roots when you pot the cuttings ups. If anything the moss will add aeration to the soil.

    I wouldn't downsize the hoya as it was still putting out leaves so it must be happy enough. Unless you are going to repot in leca then you might as well do it I guess.

  • @vintageelements710
    @vintageelements710 4 роки тому

    Definitely a smaller pot for the hoya. They have a shallow fragile root system. Also for the spidermites you should get a makeup brush and lightly scrub the plant and soak in soapy water, webs protect against just spray so you have to disturb them. Good luck with everything you have going on. Appreciate you taking time for us!❤️

    Have you ever tried diatomaceous earth on your plants? Specifically for those spider mites on that pothos.. I swear whenever I'm at my absolute boiling point with pests, I dust some DE on them and they are legitimately gone!! Anwyays, beautiful video as always 🌵🌿 much love from Oregon ❤️

  • @tieashasamuels2627
    @tieashasamuels2627 4 роки тому +1

    I would definitely put the hoya compacta in a smaller pot (2.5-3 inches). I had one in the size pot yours is in & ☠, but I have one in a 3 inch pot & it is flourishing.

  • @StrangeDisposition
    @StrangeDisposition 4 роки тому +1

    I’m no expert but I’d leave the Hoya in the pot because at least it’s a terra cotta pot and it will wick away excess moisture quick.

    Hey Fern, I really love your plant videos! 😻 Just one tip - you can actually leave the moss on the roots of the cuttings. Removing the moss disturbes the roots and moss in the soil actually helps with moisture and drainage :) also if the water has trouble running through the soil, lose it up a bit more and put more chunky stuff in there like orchid bark or coconut fibre :) much love ✨

    Neem oil really isn't good for spider mites. You can use rubbing alcohol, a couple of drops of dish soap and water in a spray bottle works really well. You can also get a pre made solution called mite-X at your local garden center. Beautiful plants btw.

    Why is it bad when a hoya compacta puts out a lot of white leaves? I think they look pretty 😊

    • @pqpx
      @pqpx 4 роки тому

      because those leaves don’t have any chlorophyll and therefore cannot produce energy for the plant. so chances are that those leaves will die off eventually anyway. but yes they are gorgeous so it’s a pity :(

    • @journeytopeace
      @journeytopeace 4 роки тому

      @@pqpx What about variegated plants like Monstera Albo, which have leaves that are split down the half or have a lot of white on them besides the green part. Will they eventually die off as well?

    • @pqpx
      @pqpx 4 роки тому

      journeytopeace They shouldn’t bc the leaf itself contains green parts so it should be able to make enough energy, however sometimes the white part does get brown tips 🤷🏻‍♀️ But if there is a sufficient amount of green in the leaf it should be fine. I’m not sure about the details tbh. hope this was helpful! :)

      No idea, I’ve only ever had mine in sphagnum moss! I know you can’t fertilize them though. And mine does catch lots of small flies like fruit flies and gnats :)
