RE: PAUSING, EXPRESSIONS & AIR-INSTRUMENTS:
Please be mindful that we will pause (we prefer to react in the moment & to avoid copyright strike), we will react with enthusiasm, smiles, tears, conversation, exchanged looks and air-instruments. We are expressive by nature and are truly very quirky in every sense of the word. This is who we are and this is what we’ve got to offer. "The sun in your eyes, made some of the lies worth believing" is one of the best lyric lines ever.
Factoid. Thank you.
100% correct 🤟
Agreed, buddy. From a truly amazing song.
At this time in my life, it rings so true!
FACTS
In 1984, Michael Jordan's rookie year, Sirius became the opening anthem for the Chicago Bulls.
Cannot hear this without thinking “AT GUARD, FROM NORTH CAROLINA… MICHAEL JORDAN….”
Exactly. I grew up watching Jordon and the Bulls for years. The moment i heard the intro it took me back to those times! Cheers!
The greatest opening anthem ever
Greatest intro in sports ! Watch this in the 1998 NBA Finals game 4...CLASSIC !
ua-cam.com/video/6sVyAKtrMZA/v-deo.html
@@bobashley7533 this. I keep waiting for player introductions….
"Old and Wise" is on this album. It's heartbreaking and terrific.
I so totally agree! One of my favourite songs. Colin Blunstone of the Zombies is singing this one!
If you think Old and Wise is heartbreaking, try out their 'Shadow of A Lonely Man' from Pryamania, and Limelight, from Stereotomy. Shadow will break your heart. When you look up Limelight, you want the video with the black and white movie in it. It's a Charlie Chaplin movie, and it fits the song perfectly. I can't wait till they react to Shadow and Limelight.
YES!!! Amazing song. I love the whole album!!!
One of All Time favourites.
And now... The Starting lineup for your WORLD CHAMPION, Chicago Bulls!!!
Alan Parsons was the studio magician behind "Dark Side of the Moon".
People tend to overblow Alan Parsons importance on the "Project". I'd say Eric Woolfson was as paramount to the project as Parsons and I doubt their style would have been the same without him. This is particularly apparent when you listen to "Freudiana" which is still produced by Parsons and was at first planned to be another APP release, but none of the songs were written by him, and yet the album still sounds very much like an APP album.
And after Woolfson left the project, the music sounded different.
I. LOVE. THIS. WHOLE. ALBUM!!!
As an 80s kid this was my FIRST true appreciation for a song as a work of art. I NEVER turn the station or skip this song when it plays.
On my reaction channel I interpret this as “how to respond to a narcissist.”
I believe most of the Alan Parson Project albums from 1977- 1982 opened with an instrumental such as Sirius for this album. And IMHO they’re all fantastic hooks !
Going to see APP? I'm pea green with envy! You're gonna have a blast. They've been making great music for nearly 50 years. Have a blast!!
guys, people dig humility you have that
I bought this album when it came out - I was in my early 20's with my first stereo system and it was one of my first purchases. Several of the songs on my playlists to this day, including Eye in the Sky. Parsons is a master.
Super band, super catalog. APP is amazingly theatrical, each song is like part of a play, and like a play they concentrate on mood and make the lyrics blend into the mood to create an overall feel and atmosphere. The solos are clean and only intensify the mood instead of standing out. They usually are in standard pop format with an A section, A B section, a break and a repeat of the A section but with additional sparks. But the pop is sprinkled with a prog sound and some cool unusual chords and rhythms.
Quite genius, in fact.
Some of their best songs had Eric Woolfson’s vocals, he is truly missed….
What was so special was looking at the album cover or sleeve to discover the band members and instruments played, lyrics, recording engineer plus all the great artwork. Most did this while the music was playing and not until the end during the first listen. With this said, don’t change a thing. Love watching your reaction to the music of my life.😊
The opening{7:05-8:40} of this album has made it's way into many sports stadiums, it's makes a dramatic opening for a home team's appearance coming onto the field{or ice, lol}
I like the way you “do your research “ right in front of us , as the music plays. For my money; you have to fall in love with the song FIRST , then you can dive deep into the production, lyrics, vocals and instruments. You’ll never learn it all, but it sure is fun learning what you love!
Glad to see younger generations appreciating this music. And don't feel bad. I am 71 and still finding songs in say the 80s or 90s I missed. Favorite line is I am the maker of rules, dealing with fools, I can cheat you blind. As I got older I thought that was brilliant.
I saw Alan Parsons live in Florida last February. You're in for an amazing show! Enjoy! P.S. the opening act was Carl Palmer's Emerson Lake and Palmer Legacy show. Carl Palmer is still an amazing drummer. Too bad Greg Lake and Keith Emerson are no longer with us.
Lucky! I have everything ELP ever released in vinyl. First band I really, really liked. So naturally I love APP, too!
I haven’t watched your full album reaction yet but I will shortly - I’m sure you’ll love it. He had a string of absolute masterpiece albums with Tales of Mystery & Imagination, I Robot, Pyramid, Eve, and The Turn of a Friendly Card, all of which I think you would enjoy. He also recently released a new album! I wish I could be there for the concert and meet-up, sounds like a blast, I’ve never seen them live.
Quote from Wikipedia; In October 1967, at the age of 18, Parsons went to work as an assistant engineer at Abbey Road Studios. He was a tape operator during the Beatles' Get Back sessions, and he earned his first credit on the LP Abbey Road. He became a regular there, engineering such projects as Wings' Wild Life and Red Rose Speedway, five albums by the Hollies, and Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon, for which he received his first Grammy Awards nomination.
"Sirius" was the de-facto theme song for the Chicago Bulls in the late 80s and 90s. It played over the PA as Michael Jordan and the team ran onto the court at the beginning of each home game.
I can totally picture that; thank you!!!
And The Man In The Middle.
Now then, you super guys. Bloody great to see you back! I can remember playing this album to death, driving round the South-West Scottish highlands many years ago. Every time I play it, I think of then. Probably the best album from one hell of an amazing band.
You two a great, salt of the earth people. Really good to know there are people out there like you. Wonderful reactions, your love of music shines through.
Aww thank you so much! ❤️
We learned by reading album covers…which not only provided great/ unique art…but great info on band membership/ production…Long live vinyl…didn’t need Wikipedia regarding this!
Cool!
When I worked in the suburbs of Philly in an era known as ‘The Main Line’ (where trading places was partly filmed) there was a pizza/hoagie shop called ‘Pie in the Sky’. Getting hungry just thinking about it.😀
Can't wait for your reaction to the concert!
Great band, saw them 2 years ago. Awesome show, enjoy NicknLex !!! 💖
CHICAGOOO BULLSSSSS!!!!
Was able to meet you guys when I sat near you at The Paramount ! Love this stuff.
Hi! Glad you made it here; hope you enjoy and stay in touch!! 🤘 😀
This song brings back so many memories of high school. I love Sirius too. It’s used at so many sporting events. My favorite Alan Parson Project song is Games People Play. I have to say that listening to these songs now, I appreciate the lyrics so much more. Great reaction!!
This was great you guys! You are going to love the concert. I saw them live in 1995 when they toured together with Kansas at The Merriweather Post Pavillion in Columbia, MD fantastic show, next from them you should do the album Tales Of Mystery And Imagination 👍🏽👍🏽
Groovy 80’s hanging out at the arcade in my down with a couple warm McDonalds cheeseburgers in my pockets, keeping my hands warm btw games…vibes. This upcoming show will be awesome.
Mammagamma is one hell of an instrumental song, the grand-father of techno and electronic music, it's also part of this album. You should check it out.
I love all the different types of artists that you two cover. This was very good and it is so nice seeing you two display your love of music. This channel is awesome.
PS Now I want a brownie.
The Chicago Bulls uses this as their entering on to the court for their basketball games, it really is outstanding, the combo, check it our sometime.
Such a late 70s and early 80s vibe. Like Alpert's Rise, and Chuck Mangione it's part of the feel of the time. Puts me right in my 14/15 yr old self, childhood home, street & neighborhood.
Not really on topic, but there is a great British detective show called ‘Pie In The Sky’. It’s about a police detective in rural England who is trying to retire & run his very own restaurant called ‘Pie In The Sky’ despite many obstacles.
Thank you so much for reacting to this incredible song. It's as close to perfect as you can get. I'm going getting on Patreon now.
A great reaction guys. I'm so pleased you let the transition play.
I'd recommend you listen to the 1995 'The Very Best of Alan Parsons Project Live' an outstanding live album.
49k! 🎈😜👍❤ congrats!
Hi. great reaction. 3 years ago Alan Parsons released an album and one song on it is called As Lights Fall. He created an excellent video for it. When you watch the video there are many hidden visuals about his past. You have to watch it a few times to pick them out. The song is so good!!!! You must watch this video before you go to the concert. I bet they will play it. I went to see Alan Parsons Project a few years ago at Kleinhans Music Hall in Buffalo and it was an excellent show. You're going to love it!!!!! I been a fan since they released their first album. I am curious if you watched the video, what your reaction is. Please let me know!!!
Wow , you'll be seeing AP on my daughter's birthday. Remember Alan Parsons engineered Dark Side of the Moon. Lots more AP to explore. Sirius was used for the 1990s Chicago Bulls introductions...Sirius is the brightest star in the night sky. Its name is derived from the Greek word Σείριος, or Seirios, meaning lit. 'glowing' or 'scorching'.
Thank you for your great reaction! I saw Alan Parsons Project earlier this year for the first time and it was an amazing experience! I hope you will give your reaction to the concert in a future video. Sirius is definitely the introduction to Eye in the Sky and is one of the best openings to any album. Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls adopted this as their theme song in the 80's and 90's. Keep up the great work and have fun at the concert!
I truly love this album from beginning to end.
It's fun guessing when y'all do the " air instruments" I do them too it makes the channel fun ✨
Love song that start with layering. Start with one simple instrument then bring in another and then another and another getting more and more sophisticated in composition but because of the layering you can still hear each of the instruments "wonderful" . An album of Alan Parsons i recommend to anyone who might like a to discover a AP gem that did get promoted here in New Zealand was " Vulture Culture " it has a deep red cover with a famous bronze sculpture of a Snake eating it own tall which is very apt for the album.
I got started with APP with Pyramid when it actually came out. One of my favorites. EITS is also a great album. All of my APP is on vinyl so I don’t listen to them as much as I used and should.
And FYI based on something you said;
APP used several different singers.
Sirius is a world-famous intro at sporting events indoors. The lights are shut off, the music comes on, then the lights, and the starting line-ups are introduced. It was really common in the NBA.
Alan Parsons Project is one my favorite bands. I have nearly all their studio CDs. "Eye in the Sky" is awesome! You will love it. I wish I was in the Denver area to go see them live and do that meet and greet with you.
I am a Alan Parson fan - Music from the 70s and 80s is some of the best music of our time. Not sure if it is the Drugs or talent or both. Alan Parsons is a genius. There is Alot of great music from Him.
NOW you know why I am an.... alanparsonsfan!!
Can't stop thinking about MJ23 and the Chicago Bulls of the 90's
SO GOOD to see you BACK Nick and Lex! I hope everything went well and worked out for your mom, Nick.
Thank you!! It’s going day by day and we are so blessed to have been able to do what we did!! ❤️
I love Alan Parsons productions.
Classic album!
'Sirius', what the first track is named for, is the brightest star in the night sky, and the second "i" is not silent. The name is pronounced, 'see-ree-oos'. It comes from the Greek, 'Seirios', meaning, 'glowing', or, 'scorching'.
Wow! And you will see them live. Life just gets better for you two! Would have recommended (edited)Pyramid and Turn of a Friendly Card, but this way you get to keep the best for later! These 2 are nice though. Near-ELP levels of excellence. For me. Pyramid and Turn of a Friendly Card are their AJA and Gaucho....
The Eagle Will Rise Again 👍🏽
@@mauriciodelarosa2449 That's the one, Mauricio! Also, In the Lap of the Gods. AND Shadow of a Lonely Man. And You Can't Take It With You....
Un disco inolvidable, único, completo. A piece of art.
I got turned onto Alan Parsons with Tales of Mystery and Imagination Edgar Allan Poe and continued buying his albums through Guadi. Only got to see them once in Denver many years ago.
Love the Alan Parsons project ! You might try old and wise and Days are numbers and Silence and I all great songs ! Keep it up love your reactions
Thank you thank you thank you !!! The album reaction was great, nice to share this (one of my top 10 ever) with new friends, I live near Denver, but not near enough to get there with the approaching snow, so you two have a great time, and report back on the concert. PS Old and Wise was sung by Zombie Colin Blunstone.
Alan Parsons Project is a band that fascinated me in the first song! Very happy to hear this fantastic band again and to see them together here once again! Brazilian greetings! 🇧🇷
OMG lol 12:37. Nick sings back the whole song, in an attempt to explain how it feels! 😂 😊
I love this song! Brings me back to my childhood! Have not heard it in so very long! And not like this and i had no idea it was the Alan parsons project😀. Great tune. Love the chorus . Also the intro song i know so well. I watched michael jordan and the chicago bulls growing up and it was always played before every game as they announced the starting lineups! This video brought up
So many great memories! Thanks Nick and Lex. Love you!
You guys are too funny, the fact that you are honest about your exposure to this or any other song will serve you well. Luvuguys.
Have a great time at the concert!
I saw them many years ago. They opened for Yes, who were on the road
promoting their album 90125.
Very Very Nice video!!
Alan Parson was the producer for Dark Side if the Moon. It's all connected...
I love how you two tear up over music. Some songs do that to me too. Either it reminds me of something or 12:54 someone or it’s just so beautiful. You both are great!
Thank you for your support!! Hope you enjoy our other reactions! :) - Lex
Have a great time at the show. I will be celebrating my 62nd birthday, that day. Peace & Love.
Sirius is the brightest star in the night sky. Its name is derived from the Greek word Σείριος, or Seirios, meaning lit. 'glowing' or 'scorching'. The star is designated α Canis Majoris, Latinized to Alpha Canis Majoris, and abbreviated Alpha CMa or α CMa.
There is so much I can say about this. It's artistic origins. But also seeing it performed live many years ago with the original artistes performing it in London. I hardly know, where to begin!
Sirius ("seer-ee-us" - from Greek "Seirios"), according to Homer, was the canine companion of Orion the Hunter in Greek mythology. Sirius is also the name of the brightest star in the Earth's night sky (the "Eye in the Sky"?) - the star lies near the foot of the constellation Orion.
The song is an excellent example of layering - with a consistent pattern over which are added layers of counter-melodies and harmonies - but which then peel away to leave a different pattern which sets up the following song. APP did this as the album opener on their first album with "A Dream Within A Dream" (less layers, but a spoken vocal is a significant layer) leading into "The Raven", again on I Robot which begins with the title song leading into "I Wouldn't Want To Be Like You", on Pyramid with "Voyager" leading into "What Goes Up". "Eve" was the first album to break with the theme - while "Lucifer" is a layered instrumental, there is a clear division between it and "You Lie Down with Dogs". "The Turn of a Friendly Card" was the first APP album not to start with an instrumental, instead featuring a 16-minute multi-movement piece taking up almost the whole second side of the original LP. This^ album - "Eye In the Sky" - returns to the "instrumental leading into a vocal song as album opener" form, but it is again discarded and not returned to until the peri-Project album "Freudiana" (mostly an Eric Woolfson effort - most copies do not call it an Alan Parsons Project album, but Alan is featured, and did have some hand in the creation of the album.)
APP is a bit hard to do reactions to - almost every album is a concept album and loses a great deal if one doesn't listen to the whole album: both Parsons and Eric Woolfson had classical educations, and there are many references to Greek and Roman mythology, and not getting a reference can change the meaning of a song, which then affects the next song!
---------------------------------------------
You also mentioned King Crimson and DGM's zealous guardianship of their music. The best way I know to react to KC music "on-camera" is to react to one of the several "splinter" bands: Adrian Belew's Power Trio / Power Quartet plays a number of songs from his time in KC, and Tony Levin's Stick Men (Tony and Pat Mastelotto are both past and current members of KC) plays a number of KC tunes at their live performances that are well worth reacting to.
I saw Alan Parsons open for two bands, and in both cases I enjoyed them more than the headliner! Made me go buy a few more of their albums. Very fun to listen to.
I'm sure you will have a great time at the concert... ENJOY!!
I love APP!!
What a musicians
Lucky, I never saw Alan Parsons........but did see Queen 3 times
"Don't cry cause I ain't changing my mind
So find another fool like before
Cause I ain't gonna live anymore believing
Some of the lies while all of the signs are deceiving"
Great tune to listen to after finding your love has betrayed you.
Rush "Closer to the Heart" is an amazing song. With Rush you really have to delve into the lyric to feel what it is their doing and it is a touching song.
You need to do a two fer with the first two songs on the album "Closer to the Heart" is on, A Farewell to Kings.
The first two songs are epyc. If you feel like I do about the direction the US is going, no matter which party is in office and it chokes you up (I served 20 years), the song "A Farewell to Kings" is the write up on it. And Xanadu is a masterpiece and BOY did they do that song right in live performance. They did it SO well in the 70s that I'd listen to "A Farewell to Kings" off the studio album, but then "Xanadu" from their 77 tour, forget the name at the moment. It's an amazing performance and you get to really see how 3 people made so much sound.
Very distinctive mechanical beat, works well. Can't go wrong with AP ! :)
I haven't seen Alan Parsons live but i have seen many shows at the paramount theatre and you two are in for a treat if you haven't been there yet. its a great venue.. im getting my covid booster and flu shot friday so i may not be feeling well by friday night.. my wife and i are going to the holiday theatre tonight in denver for a jazz trio.. should be fun!
"I am the pie in the sky..." I love it! Lex you crack me up, that was such a good tangent on Pie In the Sky. Yes Nick it definitely has a 1984 dystopian message. Glad you picked up on that. Alan Parsons is the best kind of genius. He is all about collaboration, from engineering Dark Side of the Moon to his amazing studio recording career to his own compositions with the Alan Parsons Project. At some point you must listen to Tales of Mystery and Imagination, the first APP album, released in 1976. Parsons took the writings of Edgar Allan Poe and put them to music. Very progressive, orchestrated, Floydish. I think you guys would enjoy it. Cheers!
Alan Parsons cut his teeth at Abbey Road studio on the album of the same name! Yes he was assistant engineer on Dark Side.
"Sirius" es posiblemente el mejor instrumental que he escuchado.
Headphones are a must. Cheers 😊🍁
You are so lucky being able to see them live, unfortunately I live in Australia and they just don't tour here! My only concilation is I have all the albums CD and vinyle and the awesome DVD of their concert in Colombia, which in my mind is the best live concert that you can see.
Guys, the wonderful thing about the music you react to, for a 66-year-old veteran, is having lived it since it appeared, having heard it for the first time since the beatles with their evolution, until the 80s, which according to me, creativity disappeared a lot , except for rare exceptions , thank you for reminding me of those times !!!!!
So glad you are opening so many varied musical doors, love the Parsons Project. Something I know you'll enjoy---a short "suite" (6 min.s) of literally some of the most beautiful music you will Ever hear, give a listen to Nightniose---"The Crickets Wicket" , you'll be glad you did.....
Love seeing both of you back♥️
Sirius ended up being played at many sports arenas when the home team takes the field or court before the start of play.
You need to listen to Tales of Mystery and Imagination from beginning to end. It's all based on Edgar Allen Poe stories. I love Alan Parsons, but his one is my absolutely favorite.
We actually knew a lot about the bands we were listening to back in the day. Plus there was always liner notes, credits and lyrics to read on the albums.
I bought this when it was on the charts. Such a great album! Their best, in my view. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it.
BTW fun fact Alan Parsons was the sound engineer for Pink Floyd... I've also heard that Alan Parsons can play just about every instrument in his band.
Love your channel. Here is my reaction to this song!!!
MY FIRST ALBUM BY THEM WAS TALES OF MYSTERY AND IMAGINATION MADE ME FALL IN LOVE WITH THEM!!!!!!
ALLEN PARSONS was the engineer on PINK FLOYDS DARK SIDE OF THE MOON I HAVE SEVERAL ALBUMS BY THE BAND FANTASTIC
So the “i” in Sirius is not silent and sounds just like serious. But check out the info below. Interesting story and there is a great song you might wasn’t to check out called Wishing On A Dog Star by Perry Farrell,Satellite Party. Great song with great lyrics.
Sirius, The God * Dog Star
The effect of Sirian energy and influences generated during 1993 / 1994 (the last cycle when Sirius A and B were closest), created renewed interest in this most influential heavenly body. The history books and religions of the world have had much to say about the God * Dog star. This article reflects on our ancestors' beliefs and inspired insights into a great mystery ~ the mystery of the Dog Star and its influences on our little corner of the universe.
Emotional 😭, The 👁️ of Osiris.
Great intro guys. As far as sounding like Pink Floyd, it really only applies to their first 3 albums or so. By the time of "Eve" (1979), they started to go in a more pop, easy-listening direction, although "Turn of a Friendly Card" (1980) has an excellent progressive/classical suite on Side 2. Their last official APP album is "Gaudi" (1987) which sees them returning to a more progressive style.
Just when it looked like they might be leaving their progressive ambitions behind, they deliver big time with the "Turn of a Friendly Card" suite.
What could be more easy listening than Pink Floyd? Their songs make you comfortably numb.😉
49.2k!!!!
You guy,s should react to some Van Morrison, like Glad Tiding,s or Tupelo Honey, or Into to the Mystic. He,s a great singer songwriter! Par excellance! Pura Vida Caio/ Thx 😉🙃
