Yes, that’s a great idea! Esp sa mga walang oven. Good kitchen hack! Kaya lang there’s a certain temperature limit din sa yeast, kapag masyadong mainit yung tubig at hindi natancha, your yeast will die, baka maging deflated lang ang puto or hindi mag ferment. Pero kung kaya mong tanchahin ang init ng tubig sa kaserola, you can absolutely do it. Thank you sis!

Calasiao puto. The mixture is placed in stone containers fermented overnight. The stone containers develop bacteria which gives rise to the puto without using yeast.
Fermentation. Because my original recipe for Puto Calasiao has a step that requires cooking a small amount of rice before mixing it with the uncooked rice before puting in a blender… So I tried using tanzhong paste method which is exactly the same as cooking the rice. And I don’t need to use the blender anymore when using the tanzhong paste method as well.
Calasiao is place in Pangasinan where Puto Calasiao is most famous for. It’s where Senior Tesoro church is and most stalls outside the church sells Puto Calasiao.
Hello Raquel, I have not used Coconut Milk as a substitute because Puto Calasiao is meant to have a tangy (maasim asim) pero a little sweet flavour. They don’t use Coconut Milk in it kasi madaling mapanis kapag meron coconut milk. But it’s up to you, you can experiment as well. Let me know what the taste like and kung aalsa sya kapag coconut milk ang gamit. I know yung binibili kong Puto dito sa Vietnamese shop here in Melbourne, lasang lasang ko yung Coconut Milk. And it’s fluffy too. Maybe to start with, use 1 cup of water and 1/2 cup Coconut Milk, para hindi overpowering yung lasa ng gata sa puto mo 🥰
