I’ve also experienced very negative reactions in Turkey Istanbul during my hair transplant visit. I’m a mixed race African American. My mom is black and dad is Hispanic. I had a many unfriendly encounters. 1st at the airport asking help from a young lady at the customer service desk, she never smiled. Never made eye contact and wasn’t very helpful 2nd time was in a grocery store. I was in Line and yet again another older middle age woman was ringing up customers and she was very friendly with them, by the time I got to the register she changed her whole mood, she did not once speak at all, didn’t smile at all. So I challenged her and I said hi 3 times, she slightly raised her head and gave me a wave. Cab driver charged me 50 Euros for a 8 min cab drive to dominoes. I have a lot more but I’ll be writing a book. I was hoping to see more friendly people but I only met a few and they were mostly working at my hotel and at the hair transplant place

@@intellectualsmoke I have seen a documentary in which racism against Blacks was rampant. Black female housekeepers were called monkeys by their employers and even beaten up like animals for minor mistakes.
This is my own personal experience, so please don’t take it as I think all Turkish people are racist. So I’m a white guy from Illinois who went to Istanbul with my black friend with both our girlfriends. We stayed there for about 2 weeks and while the trip was amazing, my friend and his girlfriend felt slightly awkward whenever we shopped, dined, and dealt with people on the street. I thought this was just due to us being foreigners - American foreigners - so I really thought nothing of it. We were eating at a kebab joint where a few of the locals were repeatedly glancing over at us and snickering between themselves. I caught a few words, translated them and I was shocked. Words like “zenci” “siyah” and “zencigot” were being used to ridicule my friend, a guy who’s probably 5x more successful than those bums.
Hi 👋 I have just read your comment. I want to add something to your comment if you let me. Unfortunately most Turkish people use this word Zenci without knowing the exact meaning of it. It’s an insulting word but most of them use it as black. I am fed up telling some Turkish friends not to use this word zenci but instead use the word Siyahi / Black . The meaning is bad I totally know but they are not using it in order to belittle people. Sorry for your experience. But my mom for example always says when she sees Black people Oh my God how lovely and lively these people are . Hope we get more education and kindness. 🙏☺️
I feel you, its inferiority complex that these racist people have ! They want to look for the differences and not the common things we have as humans, we all have same number of hands fingers extra but they still want to look for the differences it’s ridiculous 😂

The situation we find ourselves in is honestly heartbreaking to say the least. What's sad is many black people choose to ignore/overlook what is happening in the world. Having money and being in more affluent countries/areas at best makes the racism more subtle but it's still there
I’m Palestinian. I just came back from a trip in Turkey and damn they were so racist. Too many incidents happened to explain here. The only time they would not be racist to me is when they find out I’m Palestinian, then they treat me kindly. Personally, I don’t want to be treated differently based on where I’m from even if it’s positive. I do appreciate the support for my country but sometimes the racism is too much. But honestly there are some great Turkish people and business owners who are so annoyed at these racists, saying it’s completely against Islam to so and it is effecting there businesses. Now tourism has crashed in Turkey, less foreign investments. All because of the wannabe white European Turks.
Me and my husband are from the UK, we are muslim and Pakistani. We have grown to absolutely hate Turkey especially Istanbul. Although we have not had any direct rasict treatment we definitely feel everyone is rude, arrogant and feels like they just have something against you / don’t like you ( stayed in istanbul twice - business purposes) would never recommend Turkey as a holiday destination to anyone! rude arrogant , unfriendly people here!
Damn. I spent a combined 6 months traveling in China over the past year and visited around 15 majot cities spanning from the southwest to the northeast. I speak Chinese and the worst thing I heard was ignorant people saying there are no Black people in America 😂 My main complaint China is the cigarette smoke and occasional bad manners. Cops and security guards never bother me and are almost always friendly. Lots of them go out of their way to say that they don't discriminate against us. It's a way for them to feel superior to Westerners I think. I don't mind at all. And they're always giving me free stuff. I got a free night a rather expensive hotel in Yangzhou after I complained about the service. Kinda blew me away.
I experienced being ignored by several airport, employees in Istanbul. It wasn’t a pleasant experience especially since I was lost and couldn’t read the Turkish signage.

I feel you brother. I have been humiliated. The problem is the African Union and African leaders. In the past our people were humiliated and sold to work in farms. After independence African leaders didn't demand compensation for the damages. The colonial powers demanded reparation and still the money goes into the countries of colonial powers. Now Turkey depends heavily on Africa. African leaders don't care about their people and the conditions under which they are kept. Mandela fought against appartied and he won in the end. We should fight against the international appartied that's going on. Brother, Africa is beautiful and has breathtaking landscapes but the problem is our leaders. They don't invest in Africa to attract the world and create more jobs for the African youth.

Turkey is a wonderful and beautiful country but sadly bad things happen every where so in this country. I am not black but m not white also. I m a brown Northern Indian, many times mistaken for Arab or Irani here, since very few Indians live in this country. I do feel a discrimination here based on the looks and skin color. It’s not about being a foreigner but it’s more about how you look. If you are white European, people are more polite and attentive to you. Many times at coffee shops and restaurants I am just ignored unlike other white or local customers. While travelling also I saw that some people tend to talk to white guys in broken English but not to the guys like me. Last week I was at Carrefour, in front of me was a white foreigner who didn’t know Turkish. The lady at the counter talked to him enthusiastically in her broken English but when my turn came she didn’t speak a word of English and even her response towards my fairly average Turkish was cold. This is a very subtle form of racism because probably I am not black enough to feel the real music. I really feel sad for you and can understand your pain. I traveled a lot in this country and definitely never stop doing so, just for the assholes out there. Wish you best of luck.
