Good Lord.
The truck part!
Good stuff boys.
I laughed
Hi Randy, I live in Oregon on the coast range. I had an encounter with a cow elk when a friend and I were deer hunting, we were so close, we could have poked his elk with our rifles.
Steep coast range !
Love these videos. This one especially. My father too passed away almost 6 years ago and unfortunately none of my siblings hunt with me anymore. But I have a very supportive wife that loves to tag along with me. I can relate to the part of the video where you mentioned that your dad was up on that mountain with you. I've felt that same way more times than I can remember over the years since his passing while I've been up on the mountains hunting. Great video!
When they have the Next Kennedy Center Honors Show , You should get one of those Honors easily , You've done so much for Hunters I can't thank you enough .
Thanks for all the great videos Randy! You're an unbelievable spokesman and role model for the sport!
Thank you for that kind comment, Kurt. And thanks for watching. Best of luck this season.
A great big THANKS RANDY
I concur with Randy, Colorado is the #1 state for Non-residential hunters, the state makes you feel that you are welcome. I get great information from the DNR and biology staff every time I go there. If we dont get drawn for the area's I put in for in my state of Montana, we hunt OTC 2nd season Colorado every year, however I have hunted Colorado for the past 11 years, just because I love to hunt there. My success in that state almost mimics the success I have here in Montana, and its very high for DIY hunts. I love hunting with my family It's our once a year bonding time, to get together and hunt like when we were kids, camp fires at night are the best.
I love your hunting videos when you get deer they are big . Congrats on all deer you have got .
Got my first cow elk last year, thank you for all your info, that's what made the difference
Good to hear. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for episodes like this. Non hunters seem to think its only about the kill. Its about so much more and this episode says more than I could. I Love that there are signs in colorado saying welcome hunters, never happen in Australia. Thanks Randy love your show.
Thanks. And thanks for watching. We just show how it happens.
Nice video I know this places u guys are hunting grate place to hunt
Great video, it's always good to teach about what it's like to not fill a tag and not let it get you down. Would love to go with you sometime when you come back to colorado. Like all these elk videos
Glad you liked it.
I love this. Jason take it as a win!
The snowball to your noodle was the best LOL
Just clipped that Aspen near the dark spot left side. Too bad but it is still an intense memory that non-hunters and young men all over the cities in this country just need to experience and change their lives!
Yup. He will never forget that opportunity. Thanks for watching.
When we went to Estes park we saw many elk I love elk
me too
Another great video. His shot struck the tree. The up and down was perfect but it was just an inch or two too far forward. That's hunting though... the one that got away.
Yup, a great big aspen is hard to eat.
Randy your videos are the best! But I’m pretty sure your brother was the little kid in The Shining w/ Jack Nicholson!!😳
Just started hunting this year and got a doe first try! These videos make me want to go and try to get some other big game animals. Thanks for the awesome videos.👍🏼
Congrats. Hope it is the first of many more.
I would love to see you with your own TV show , it would be My Favorite !!!
rip tree hahahah ive done that before it sucks ,its called buck fever!!
What type of camo is that Randy?
9:34 Brotherly love 9:43 actual brotherly love.
Love the videos. Can you provide a link for the maps you use that shows private versus public? Thx
www.onXmaps.com
Thanks for watching.
"If ya woulda goosed 'er we woulda made 'er up dare.." I'm a Yooper transplant to Colorado and that Minnesota accent is making me homesick haha, I'm dying laughing over here! Love it, eh!
My brother has a classic Minn-e-soota accent. Me, not quite as much.
Holy moly. Take the glove off bud.
Exciting just wondering how you keep from getting list in new territory hand held GPS?
Pretty hard to get lost in the west, where you have so many visual landmarks. That said, I do have a GPS with a chip that tells me the surface ownership of the land. It would be embarrassing to get lost when I have the device in my hand.
Randy, what rifle do you shoot? Do you change equipment or ammo for different locations?
My most common cartridge is a .308 Win. with Nosler 165 grain Partition bullets. My "go to" rifle is a Howa Alpine Mountain Rifle. In this case it was a Howa Model 1500. Always topped with a Leupold VX-6 or VX-3 scope. Thanks for watching.
Another great video.
Bummer man. Been there done that. That's how it goes sometimes. Can't kill em all. There's always next year.
I find it ironic that my brother logs trees for his livelihood and ends up hitting a tree when his first bull elk opportunity comes along. Thanks for watching.
If you watch carefully you can see the bullet hit the tree on the right side of the opening.
I watched that shot several times over and over, your shot was a the right height for a kill shot and you did hit the Elk but the bullet hit the tree first, watch it in slow motion and after the bull turns to trot off. Look at his shoulder.
Also look at the shot as it hits the tree, you can clearly see you hit it.
Jason likes repeating the last few words Randy says lol 3:33 3:42 4:54 7:45 and the oscar goes to: 13:13
Can anyone help me. Can someone tell me if otc tags are either sex or just bulls in Colorado?
I know the think they shot over him, it could have been the camera angle but it looked like the dude nailed a tree
What Unit was this Randy?
We don't give unit numbers. It would change hunter application patterns and not be fair to those who hunt there. I hope you understand. It was not far from Grand Junction, CO.
Totally get it. Thanks for the reply.
he totally hit that bull! you can see the bullet hit the tree but as the bull turns away you can see the blood start oozing out behind the shoulder. blow it up on the big screen right at 18:14
Hmm. We followed that bull for two miles in fresh snow and not a drop of blood to be found. No hair at the shot, no blood anywhere, just an elk that kept on truckin'. Thanks for watching.

That's my spot lol
i live in colorado gunsin
First off, he didn't put his tag on it after he shot it and then he just left it.
What a waste, poor tree....
i am not a fan of this double kneed position. its not very steady.
12:58 God dern ragherns ruin every hunt
Yeah, but I'm not adverse to taking them to the freezer if they get too out of hand.
I'd like to be your apprentice
My wife told me I need one. Not sure what she meant by that. Thanks for watching.
ahhh! she's pulling your leg mate. if you ever come to Australia to hunt what I've been led to believe is the most challenging deer specie in the world - Sambar, please give me a hoy
For sure.
it is a very bad practice to use your rifle as a tool to help you stand up. respect your gun and your life.
Stop spreading the BS about elk numbers Randy. Tell everyone how many of them are untouchable on parks or in the urban interface.
The elk hunting stinks in Colorado, no need to come here. I hear Idaho is great though.
