I completely agree. However, here in Japan, the inline 4-cylinder sound is overwhelmingly preferred, and for some reason the V4 sound is unpopular.

I did laps on the Nordschleife in 1999 and 2000 on the exact same model VFR800i; had mine in 1998 new. Doing those laps was one of the great experiences of my life, thanks for letting me re-live that moment.

I own one of these bikes, and am always amazed by the power of it. Every few weeks I come back and watch this video, just to remind myself of what it can do, how it sounds when it is pushed to its limits.
The perfect bike for street riding. A balance of comfort, style, raw power, refinement and balance. You cannot go wrong with a 5th gen VFR.

@@Capirobi I crashed mine because the one speed sign that was absolutely necessary on a twisty.highway was knocked down and not replaced. It was the only seriously decreasing radius corner and the only corner that had no signage, other than the corners that didn’t need a speed reduction. It went from a high speed sweeper into a U-turn and I met the only car coming the other way right at the apex. Didn’t want to risk a low side into his car, so I passed him on the wrong side, onto the dirt shoulder, where I apologized to my bike, puulled it on its side, wheels up into the Armco barrier, pulled my top leg back so it didn’t get sliced by the bottom of the Armco and that was it. My front wheel hit the first available post and the next thing I was sliding on my ass on the dirt. The bike must have gone straight sideways and flipped onto its other side in the middle of the highway. I was wearing leathers and didn’t have a bruise or scratch. Must have been going 70 mph when I crossed in front of the car. Amazing how much time you have when time slows down. Still, I had to make a hard decision real fast. Craziest moment I’ve had on a bike by far. Don’t care for another.
Bike was trashed, but the frame was ok. Rebuilt it with mostly new OEM parts. Only kept the rear plastic because it was the only unbroken piece. Rear wheel, swing arm, brake and rear subframe were ok, exhaust can & rear pegs were ok, side a centre stands were ok, engine was ok, upper triple clamp was ok, wiring harness was ok. The rest was trash. Got a really nice paint job, with a Porsche colour & had custom decals made to look like factory. Still riding that bike. In fact, I rode it tonight. It gets lots of complements from the young riders who don’t know what it is and think it’s brand new. I’ll sell my 2006 CBR1000RR before I’ll sell my 2000 VFR. Putting that VFR back together cost me big$$, but I owed it to her after taking the hit for me. She’s still a sweet ride.

I've got a 2000 VFR and I AutoX an '85 AW11 - This guy knows a racing line and how to keep this bike in the powerband. Love hearing my this thing scraping pavement in a lean. With this camera position you mostly hear the gear driven cams and valve-train nosise. A mic near the exhaust would do the bike more justice in terms of sound. Doesn't matter. Nice drive!

Good enough for Fast Freddy; Good enough for me! Mine feels heavy, when pulling it onto the center stand. But once in motion, I haven't had a more confidence inspiring motorcycle. Seemed like the rider was getting the feel for the bike in the last few minutes, as the revs looked, to my amateur eyes, to be in a better range for pulling power coming out of the apex... looks like a fine thing to do... :-). BTW, were the car drivers that slow, or were they just poking along. Thanks a lot for taking me along for the ride! Music to the ears, and a feast for the eyes! Mille Grazie!

Since he won't reply I will share my experience I had a zx6r which is lighter than the 1st gen vfr 800 by miles yet the vfr feels lighter when I drive it... Because of the way the weight is distributed it has a loser center of gravity... My point is I prefer my old 2000 vfr Compared to my 2008 zx6

I have a 5th gen VFR 800Fi. I can assure you it’s not heavy and definitely not slow. I feel better on the VFR than my previous GSX-R 750 K8. Less power but the V4 has a wider power range and the frame is like a sword in the corners. She does exactly what you want and can change direction very quickly. Wide and fast corners are her hunting ground but she can handle very well even tight and twisty roads.
