THE TEN LOST TRIBES OF ISRAEL: Are They Returning? is the fourth of six bi-weekly lectures in Shaarei Tefillah Congregation’s Eleventh Annual JEWISH WISDOM FOR LIVING Spring Lecture Series with Rabbi Michael Skobac.
OVERVIEW: Around 2600 years ago, the ten northern tribes of Israel were exiled by the Assyrians. Eventually they became totally disconnected from the remaining two tribes of the Kingdom of Judah and came to be known as the Lost Tribes of Israel.
The Bible has numerous prophesies of their eventual return to reunite with their long lost brethren in the Messianic age. But where are these people now? Over the centuries, there have been various theories about their whereabouts.
Today, some groups have begun claiming to be descendants of the lost tribes and researchers are speculating that other peoples may have Israelite roots. In this video Rabbi Skobac discusses the past, present and future regarding this fascinating topic.

We are Batak People in Indonesia probably have ancestry Jews. We observed the Saturday worship and reject to eat blood, pig, and many treyvah animals
Rabbi Eliyahu Avichail of blessed memory went through a lot of struggles in his quest for the lost tribe Menashe. He was the first to address us as 'Bnei Menashe'
Although we do not have any DNA evidence that supports our claim, our rabbi believed with all his heart that we are indeed descended from the tribe of Menashe and personally I too believe in the rabbi.

Scobak I was almost eckonig your speech while listening to your lecture and realised that the Ibo have from the time of our ancestors practiced some of the Jewish traditions you mentioned like the 8th day circumcision , a nearest blood redeemer marrying the widow of a deceased relative, calling first daughters Ada, in our marriage customs, leaving gleanings for the poor and alien after harvest, the righr to redeem a pledged field, marriage customs and so many others.
Hashem is good, His plans are always good for His children, may His will come to be fulfilled at His appointed times.

Thank you Rabbi. As a teenager I heard my grandfather Aaron and a couple of cousins say our family was descendants of German Jews.
I love the history of the Jews/Israel. The lost tribe have intermarriage. But just like the Bible said. One day they will return in God’s timing. I’m a Christian and love the Jewish people. Thank you Rabbi for this wonderful, and educational, historical information.

Very interesting. I did a little research on some of the theories presented here. The most compelling, by far, is that the Pashtun people are descendants of one or more of the 10. They are clearly different from the other people in central and south Asia. Beautiful people (from the photos)!

So I struggle with this: I have some Ashkenazi blood but sometimes wish it was 100%. Then I think there'd be more of a chance that I wouldn't be here had my ancestor not intermarried. But that sounds like lack of faith... I guess I'll put that back in the back of my mind again until it creeps back up

I want to ask, are you familiar with the Samaritan Israelites? They are a tiny remnant of the descendants of Ephraim and Levi. DNA testing proves this. They managed to escape captivity and have been living in the northern kingdom in the area of Shechem and Mt. Gerizim for 3000 years. They have an active Levitical priesthood with descendant of Aaron. They actively follow WRITTEN Torah. It is my understanding that Jews aren’t accepting them as true Israelites because they don’t follow rabbinical law, they deny Jerusalem as the chosen place, and also, they believe the Tanakh has been corrupted. It is my understanding that Jews believe the Samaritan Israelites were corrupted by idolatry and vice versa, the Samaritan Israelites believe Jews were corrupted by idolatry. Are you familiar with them? I’m just curious why you didn’t mention them in your lecture. Thank you!
