Here is a story unlike most of the comments - my Dad got me a Honda catalog but never let me ride. I used to read it every night until I fell asleep, especially the Z50 and XR80 pages. At 51, I am finally taking the MSF intro course next month!
Welcome. I hope you enjoy it and I look forward to waving to you out there. I’ll be the guy on the motorcycle. Seriously though, that’s cool as hell you are finally stepping into it. I hope you really enjoy it. I love just going out and rolling down the road. Sometimes just picking up a jug of milk is an excuse to take an extra lap around the neighborhood just to feel the air. Have fun out there.
I waited until 33 to take the MSF. Would've done it at 18 but my maternal grandfather once had a nasty spill on the highway so mom was adamant that I never touch a motorcycle. Hope you love motorcycling as much as you've anticipated. Ride safe, have fun!
@@gunsngunpla i am the same....a family member on my moms side passed away from an accident....she would never let me have a street bike while I was living at home, and out of respect, I didn't get one until my mid 30's. Lots of dirt bikes, 4wheelers and sleds in between though
My PW 50 story. When I was 5 or 6 my Uncle was riding the 50 around the pool, messing around. Hopped off holding one end of the bars and said get on. I rode around the neighborhood no problem, hitting top speed. One of my favorite if not favorite childhood memories. I’ll never forget the feeling of freedom. Finally got a back this year and feel like a kid again. I hope to share that experience with my kids or nephews one day too
Great mini film! Please do more of these!!! I didn’t start on a bike, rather an 80cc Yamaha Badger. As far as I knew at 6 years old - that was the fastest vehicle on earth!!!!
I was just at Fredericktown Yamaha Triumph today with my daughter to look at a Tiger 850 Sport and we saw the yellow PW 50 on display. Ian told me a story about the bike and all that and suggested I pull up this movie on RevZilla and watch it with my 5 yr old girl. She is in bed at the moment, but this is the first thing we are going to do tomorrow morning. " Honey, you remember that little yellow dirt bike from yesterday at the shop?" Man, such a feel good film. Thanks for the suggestion Ian!
Actually sitting here in tears, film made me seriously emotional. Today is Christmas day and I'm at work in the middle of the North Sea, missing my family terribly. I bought my 4 yo a PW50 this year, we had to wait 6 months for it to arrive. But what a reaction from him when it finally arrived! He was over the moon that he finally had a real motor bike that 'made noise and had smoke coming out of the pipe!'. A big up grade from his Revvi (similar to a stacyc). Since then we've had some epic father-son time riding in the garden and fields near our house, and a couple of road trips to ride some epic motocross tracks. There have been a couple of crashes, but his resilience never ceases to surprise me. I can't wait to get home and share some more experiences with my children in (what in my opinion is) the greatest family sport on earth. What a great video. Cheers.
In the first three minutes, I almost started crying 😭😂! My dad got me a 50 for Christmas in 1985. He raced bikes too, but at tracks like Daytona and Roblin Rd. The story of this little bike, is at the core of who I am. As a kid, as an adult, and now as a dad. I would go on to race on flat tracks and motocross. Eventually getting bigger bikes. I learned at ton of lessons racing. Not everyone gets a trophy, if you want something you have to put in the work for it, and friends I haven't forgotten about to this day. Unfortunately, I was never able to put any of my boys on the seat of one of these amazing machines. My 15 year old and I enjoy a slightly different hobby together: rc cars. Thank you for sharing this with the world. ❤️🔥
@@WeWentFast you're very welcome! My racing hobby, now, allows me to not only spend time with my son, but also to carry on the the legacy my dad started in the 80s. I use his old number and the team name, Story Racing. I know he would be very proud to see this. 👍
This was a cool story. I was one of the kids that wanted to ride but my family couldn't afford to get me a bike. I am 35 now and Just got my step up sv 650 this year. I love riding and hoping to get a dirt bike soon.
My story is kinda the same. My dad promised my brother and I KTMs by summer. Unfortunately he was laid off from his job, then life just kinda happened. At 30, almost two years ago, I bought a buell blast. Last year I upgraded to a MT-07. I can not wait to get my daughter on a dirt bike. Or get my self one lol. Safe riding.
This is a fantastic video. I had tears of joy welling up through much of this. My first bike was much too big, a Hodaka 100cc trail bike. My dad and older brother would hold it up as I got started and if I fell I'd have to wait for help because I couldn't get started by myself. But I rode as much as I could. I rode much of my adult life on the road taking a 15 year break to raise children. I wish I taught my boys to ride but their risk adverse mother wouldn't have it. I'm now thinking of getting back into trail riding. I hope to bring my, now grown kids with me.
Great job with this story guys!!! Thanks for featuring a great bike that is part of so many memories! And to ice the cake you featured me and my brother sitting atop my new PW at 6:57 into this video!! That little bike started a lifetime of riding.
Awesome video. It really brings back memories of learning to ride in the late 70's and buying my son a PW50 when he turned 5. My son is now 20 and between the two of us we have 4 street bikes in the garage.
Man THIS brings back memories! As a little girl this was the same motorcycle I learned to ride. As the only girl with all boy cousins I refused to be left out. At maybe 6-7 my grandfather taught me in the backyard with a rope tied around my belly just in case. Later he built us (all the grandkids) a huge trail system on his land where we all rode constantly. Man I miss that little bike 🏍 I always swore one day I’d buy one again! Now, you’ve just made me decide to do it. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👍🏻
Awesome video & thank you for sharing. Back in the mid 90s my son started flat tracking with a PW50 & the memories are awesome. Today at 30 years old my son no longer flat tracks but does mini-moto track days for fun. Nothing better than going for a ride with the family on a back road.
Awesome video! We bought our son a PW for Christmas in 1998 and this year our son and daughter in-law are giving their son,my grandson, a PW for Christmas too. This video really hit me in the feels. This video brings back some great memories. My grandson is absolutely going to love his PW. 😁
I’m 47 years old and live in Buenos Aires, Argentina. My dad gave me my first bike when I was 8, a 1981 PW48. I used and enjoyed it a lot. One of my best memories in my life was my first ride. But the best part is that I still have it, in original condition.
This is epic!!! Anyone who's done the thing has been through what you just showed us. Thank you. Idk if this will entice people to try this sport, but you sure made some killer memories happen for those who have! My FIRST lap around the yard net me being picked up, by a later in life friends dad and mom, who were at at the stop sign where they saw me yard sale in a tractor rut from their iron head. This memory and the one where i was "left to figure it out" when i learned to shift are things I will never forget!!!
Thank you for this. In 1979, at age 4, I got a blue Italjet 50cc motorbike. One neighbor's kid had a Yellow PW50 (the PW was soooooo much better than my Italjet). Another neighbor's kid had a green Italjet. Man, we had sooooo much fun on those minibikes. Motorcycling ended up being a huge part of my life while growing up. Taught me so many important things! I still regularly ride motorcycles to this day. Watching this video brought back many happy memories. Best regards from Brasilia, Brazil.
That's a sweet story. My wife got a red and white PW50 for Christmas in about '84. We still have it. Both our daughters learned to ride on it. Our oldest had a baby last month and I hope little P will ride her grandma's bike in a few years.
Thank you what a great video. I’ve raised two daughters who ride and now working on the second grandchild. I also started the first grandson on a pw. He clocked a minivan and bent the front forks,we took them off and gently bent them back. It’s such a great pride watching him ride in the pee wee class at Mike Kidds place in Decatur. Riding along side of me and his mother and father on North county road down in Terlingua. What a great bike to start the kids on. Thanks for dusting off some great memories. Best of luck with your kids.
I learned on a PW80 when I was 8 with my dad and an ex-Speedway world champion at my side. I was very lucky growing up. Watching this brought it all back. Great video and great story for both of you!
I grew up in the suburbs, cookie cutter homes with small yards. I was enthralled with motorcycles at a young age, but my parents wouldn't let me have one. I bought my first bike, a Suzuki Savage, at 19 and learned to ride by watching motorcyclists in movies and on tv, and then getting out and just doing it. That was 30 years ago! My son is now 16 and I just bought a pair of Genuine Buddy Scooters to teach him how to ride and experience life on two wheels with him. Our stories are different, but there is something that connects us, we enjoy life on two wheels, we love out kids, and we want to share our passions with our kids.
Most wholesome video on UA-cam hands down!!! My first bike was a 83 Honda CR80 and we still have it, gonna rebuild bit and teach my daughter how to ride
76 honda mini trail. 3 speed ,no clutch, no battery ,air cooled perfection! started riding it at 6 learned to ride a bicycle at 5. that bike always started summer winter I rode all year. highly recommend it for a new rider.
Mine was a 1978 Honda XR 75, handed down from my older brother, to my other older brother, and finally to me in about 1987. I've owned dozens of bikes since then, but I always smile when I remember that little, old dirt bike
Love the video! Such an iconic bike! My boy found a PW under the tree this year. We both worked on it in the garage to make it "new" again. He's 4 and loved working on it with Dad.
What a great story. Reminds me of riding my mini bike in the late 60's in my parent's basement. Loved seeing your daughter getting back on the bike after her tumble, what a trooper.
My dad started me on a 50cc Suzuki trike. But my first proper 2-wheeler was a PW80 when I was about 6 years old - 3 speed semi auto (had to shift with your foot, but no clutch) and if I remember correctly, the rear brakes were on the right footpeg as normal. Just a tad bigger and faster than the PW50. Rode the hell out of that bike for a couple years. Finally, I remember coming in one day and telling my dad that it would make a loud bang when I was landing from jumps - he came out and watched, didn’t realize that I had built up a couple jumps in the yard quite a bit bigger, and that the bang was me bottoming out the bike! Lol! So onto a bigger bike and it hasn’t stopped since. The old man and I still go for trail rides a bunch each summer - I’m now 36 and he’s 62. The love of motorcycles will never go away.
1969, I was 4 and my father worked for Arctic Cat. I remember riding my Kitty Kat 50cc snowmobile on the Arctic Cat test track, I still remember how satisfying it was. I have owned 25 motorcycles since and my grandchildren just started riding .
I love reading everyone stories of starting. People that never learnt just don't understand it :) I learnt on a Suzuki JR 50 when i was 5-6 or something. I have amazing memories of learning to ride with Dad. The one that sticks with me was dad chasing me to 'hold me up' and then me looking behind my self and he was 100m behind me and then i crashed because i realised he wasn't holding me up :D I took a break from riding (and gave my bike to a friend to learn) when i had kids (and under duress from my wife) but I just got a new Honda CRF110 for my 2 kids much to my wife's dis approval. My kids are a bit older than I was (8-10) but I can see the feelings are the same. There is no time like the present. 'Im so excited for them!
What a great video. I've been in your shoes...and I'm here to say you are doing it right. I learned to ride in 1973, and in 2000 I had the opportunity to pass the torch to my 6 year old son. For us is was a Honda 50...but its the same story. It was so rewarding to watch my son learn, develop and thrive on a motorcycle - moving up to larger more capable bikes. We had plenty of father/son rides, spent some weekends racing and enjoying the comrade in the pits. We built memories together - better than my original ones. Now I'm at the stage of looking forward to helping my son teach his (future) children to ride. Act III may be better than Acts I and II. Ride safe.
I got a tw200 for the my 13th birthday. I'm 26 now and still fire it up a few times a year. the TW200 is pretty much the grown up version on the PW50. Yamaha makes some great bikes!
How totally cool. A dad that encourages their daughter or son to ride, to find new skills, new independence, a new passion is the greatest gift any child can ask for. The first bike I ever rode, not including a Briggs and Stratton mini bike, was a 1971 Honda SL 70, yes it was in 1971. I almost looped my brains the first time I worked the throttle and let the clutch out, but I was hooked for life.
When I was four all my cousins had dirtbikes and I wanted one so bad and dreamed about them all the time. I would even beg my parents to take me to the local motorcycle shop just so I could look at them in the showroom. I finally got one for Christmas either at 6 or 7 yrs old it was a Honda XR 70 and I was so excited to ride it. We took it out to my uncles pasture and first thing I did was crash it into an electric fence and get tangled up. but that didn't phase me for long. Within 30 minutes I was riding around the field feeling comfortable on that little bike and man did I ride that thing I spent every waking moment riding it if I could. Fast forward to today and I'm still in love with riding motorcycles of all kinds and still think about and dream about them everyday. This video brought back some really fond memories of my childhood thanks for making it Revzilla and I hope parents continue to put kids on little dirtbikes long into the future its great for bonding and a fun way to teach your kid many skills and life lessons.
My dad got me my 1st motorcycle when I was 11 years old, my PW80, which I still have to this day (20 years later). I have just recently converted it into a mini supermoto, which I use for training when I'm off the track.
A beautiful story and we'll executed. Well done! My first bike was an '84 xr100 in 89 or 90, second was a xl 250, and then an xr 200, or rather 3, 5 gallon buckets and a rolling frame of an xr 200. It went together in the end, and exemplified joy, responsibility, and freedom.
PW 50 isa great little bike i got mine when i was 4 before that a Honda Qa 50 my PW was pink and white and it stayed in my bedroom as we didn't have a shed at the time this was in the early 90s and this video brought back all that that nostalgia I'm now almost 30 and have 2 dirt bikes and a roadbike the love of riding will never leave and When i have a kid the Pw 50 is going to be under a christmas tree for them. Cheers for the trip down memory lane and the great video.
That's awesome. My kids first bike was a Chinese crap bike. I was looking at a pw50, but couldn't find one for a decent price. I love this story, and how most of the motorcycling works is connected to it.
It’s crazy that this bike was a lot of others firsts. Mine as well. I remember the first time I ever seen it when my dad gave me it for my birthday. I had just learned how to ride a pedal bike. Man those were the days.
Isn’t it amazing how just watching this brought me back to a time when my only worry was if my dad would get me more gas. This is almost verbatim my story on a Honda 50. A field, a track, a competition, a win, a championship, then a lifetime love of riding. Thanks
@@HamRadio200 You can ride an electric minibike in a public park and no one will even question it. Try that on a gas bike and the cops will be there in no time.
Beautiful! I wish I could have done tge same with my daughters when they were young. Now For them I am an old guy riding out his midlife crisis on a bike 😁
Warms my heart, I ALWAYS wanted a PW50 or something as a child, never got anything because my parents were too scared. In hindsight I understand but still sucked. Glad to see others had more ... adventurous parents lol
Instantly brought back memories of the secondhand Honda XR75 that my dad surprised me with one Saturday back in '81 when I was 12. The deserts of El Paso were a mecca for a kid getting his first taste of motorcycling freedom!
Within the first 2 minutes of this video I realized a perfect tool for teaching kids. Remote kill switch like what you would use for outdoor lights to kill the engine if panic throttle was being applied.
At 6 I had a 1996 Honda Z50r and while I don’t remember my first wreck/crash I remember the first ride i took I ended up whiskey throttling into my moms flower garden, turning just before hitting the fence, splitting my granddads van and a brick retaining wall before finally figuring out how to stop it…greatest memory ever. My dad also loves telling it when the opportunity comes up lol
I got one in the garage that my 13 year old and 9 year old used and abused. It never gave them any issues. They have outgrown it and it just sits. Maybe I will just put it in the rafters for my grands kids in the future.
What a beautiful story.. my very first bike was a PW80- 3 speed, no clutch and no limits! I rode the wheels off it for 3 years until I got too big for it.. wish I never sold it.
Top tip: with motorcycle, cars, whatever first do a dry run on how to NOT be on the gas and how to NOT be in gear (if applicable). You have to form at least a slight bit of a muscle memory or just have that on the top of their minds when they set off. They have to have the "when I don't want to go anymore this is what I do" and have that movement ready to go. This applies to grown ups too as my friend's dad can attest: he had not been riding any bikes for years, then bought a sidecar IC 350. He started it up and was about to pull away from the yard to the road when he didn't go right or left (as sidecars can be bad at turning) and then whiskey throttled it over the road into the ditch. Bent the frame.
One of the most uplifting videos I've watched. My eldest daughter is four but shows no interest in motorcycles other than sitting on my bike when I get back from a ride, I would love to share this hobby with her but won't push her into something she's not interested in. If she does show an interest in the future I would definitely consider the PW.
Great story and very nice to see you with your daughters. Hats off to your dad for your childhood memorabilia. I started to ride a motorcycle (Triumph Tigercub 200) when I was 23 years old in Sri Lanka , in the early '70s. Now, at 72, I own a CSC RX3 adventure bike in California.
Love this it gives me goosebumps I grew up without a dad I played in sports but never got to ride dirt bikes I have a Harley Davidson now but want a ninja 6r
I was 5 and I had started on a Honda z50r that was trashed before we got it but he got it in pieces and put it together and it rode around my whole childhood

Thanks, Dave! She does well in those situations. Brushing hair or getting a shot, not so much, ha ha. thanks for watching
Brings back some great memories of when I got my yellow PW in 1984. I remember riding everyday after school on that bike.
I love reading everyone stories of starting. People that never learnt just don't understand it :)
I learnt on a Suzuki JR 50 when i was 5-6 or something. I have amazing memories of learning to ride with Dad. The one that sticks with me was dad chasing me to 'hold me up' and then me looking behind my self and he was 100m behind me and then i crashed because i realised he wasn't holding me up :D
I took a break from riding (and gave my bike to a friend to learn) when i had kids (and under duress from my wife) but I just got a new Honda CRF110 for my 2 kids much to my wife's dis approval. My kids are a bit older than I was (8-10) but I can see the feelings are the same. There is no time like the present. 'Im so excited for them!
My first bike was a blue and white PW50. Amazing entry to motocross ❤️
AGREED!
A) I taught my baby sister on a 95 PW 50 I bought for $500 in 99.
2) It came from outside Enon Valley Pennsylvania, a stones throw from Beaver Falls.
Beaver Falls for the win! thanks for watching, Chad
I started with a 50CC Binelli Buzzer around 1967. It led to a lifetime love of motorcycles.
Wow!
One of the greats! Thank you. A beautiful story about growing up, learning, parenting and the little motorcycle that just keeps going!
I had a pw 50 when i was young it was awesome
Ride safe.
Isnt it amazingly how two wheels can bring so much emotion. I love it.
It really is. First bike stories never get old.
this is the most wholesome thing i have ever watched
Awesome! Thanks for this. Golden nostalgia!
I got a tw200 for the my 13th birthday. I'm 26 now and still fire it up a few times a year. the TW200 is pretty much the grown up version on the PW50. Yamaha makes some great bikes!
Another great piece by Brett Smith. Wonderful story and footage.
Awesome! Got my first 50cc motocross bike when I was 12 - that was 40yrs ago, and still riding today. Once your into bikes, you're into bikes.
Did you keep the bike!?
@@WeWentFast sadly no... 😔
Not just a great Moto story, but a beautiful and precious girl-Dad story! Good job, Dad! You go, bike daughter!
Awesome content!
This is the first time I'm seeing a field of fully kitted kids on bikes. Bro the proportions, it's cuteness overload 😊
I'm the generation before the PW. I started in 1972 on a 50cc Indian (Italjet) M5A just shy of my 3rd birthday. This was the PW50 of the 70's.
For me it was a pull start minibike around my grandads property, followed by a Honda Trail 70. Such good memories. Thank you!
Exact same profession as me. 3.5 hp mini bike to trail 70 then on. 38 now and still riding. Plan to ride till I can’t physically do it anymore..
Lt 80, was my daughters, and sons first bikes, ...best times ever.
This is one of the best pieces of storytelling on this platform. Thank you and well done 👏
My dad got me my 1st motorcycle when I was 11 years old, my PW80, which I still have to this day (20 years later). I have just recently converted it into a mini supermoto, which I use for training when I'm off the track.
That's awesome that you kept it all these years. thanks for watching
@@WeWentFast thank you , it's on my channel if you want to see. And you're welcome, I loved the video, it was beautifully made.
Awesome dad to support kids riding.
Brings back memories of my 1969 ct 70 Loved that bike and have a Harley in the garage now. Great film enjoyed it thanks
great bike! thanks for watching
This is such a great film, I've watched it twice now.
What an absolutely wonderful video, I learned on an 83 jr50 and still have the bike to this day.
Thank you , John! So great that you kept the bike.
I only got my motorcycle drivers license when I was 45. I cannot describe how happy I am for these kids and the world they live in!
Great video, makes me misty eyed remembering putting my son on his new Suzuki JR50 for the first time.
Great film indeed! I had a Honda QA50 years, years ago. Great memories.... Thanks
What a great video! Thanks for putting this together, it definitely brought up all kinds of great memories and emotions.
Loved it!!! Such a great time when they are learning to ride!!!!
My kids started on PW50's when they were 3 & 4 with training wheels
That's awesome. My kids first bike was a Chinese crap bike. I was looking at a pw50, but couldn't find one for a decent price. I love this story, and how most of the motorcycling works is connected to it.
Great vid.. I didnt think id be watching the whole thing at first but it kept me here..Well done..
It’s crazy that this bike was a lot of others firsts. Mine as well. I remember the first time I ever seen it when my dad gave me it for my birthday. I had just learned how to ride a pedal bike. Man those were the days.
Great video! Brings back lots of memories as our family has been in the sport for almost 50 years.
Isn’t it amazing how just watching this brought me back to a time when my only worry was if my dad would get me more gas. This is almost verbatim my story on a Honda 50. A field, a track, a competition, a win, a championship, then a lifetime love of riding.
Thanks
Jim! Thank you so much for watching
Who is cutting those damn onions again!! This is so heartwarming to see.
I bought my grandson an electric dirt bike for Christmas this year can't wait to see him riding it
Electric? Comon man! Just kidding! Im sure he'll have a blast.. until the battery runs down. lol.
I bought my nephews electric bikes for Christmas a few years back and now they race a 65 and 85.
Me too
🤣 thanks for watching, Rod!
I'm not crying. You are!!!
I was thinking the same thing, a mobile phone app to kill the engine if needed.
Or... don't forget to put the throttle limiter screw back in. We didn't mention it in the film but I forgot to put it back in... doh!
Awesome BJ. Brought back a lot of fun memories with our families. Now I think I need to look for one.
I got one in the garage that my 13 year old and 9 year old used and abused. It never gave them any issues. They have outgrown it and it just sits. Maybe I will just put it in the rafters for my grands kids in the future.
The only thing transcends through time is memories. Love this video!
Thank you for this beautiful story and a video!!!
This is the most wholesome thing I've ever seen :')
Bent the frame.
we learned by ourselves, no one taught us, we also rebuilt it, no help, it was fun, great movie
Absolutely loving this documentary! Awesome job, RevZilla and the whole CTXP crews!
Aww, thank you so much!
This was such a great story. Loved this guys ❤
When she said she wanna hop on and do it again calmly after learning thats when the new rider is born
Excellent film! Thank you!
Great story . Even if it's far off in your future the chance to do that again with grand kids is awesome !
Love this it gives me goosebumps I grew up without a dad I played in sports but never got to ride dirt bikes I have a Harley Davidson now but want a ninja 6r
Beautiful story, thanks. Got me emotional.
I was 5 and I had started on a Honda z50r that was trashed before we got it but he got it in pieces and put it together and it rode around my whole childhood

Fantastic film! So cool to dive into the history
