    I do love banana flavor! Which maybe a factor in why Hefeweizens are my favs

    Personally not a banana flavor guy but the addition of those cashmere hops made this sound tasty to me! I think it could be fun to use Bananza to brew banana strawberry fruited beer. Lots of room to play with that, great vid!

    • @ProstwithPeter
      @ProstwithPeter  3 роки тому +1

      It definitely could play well with some fruit, I may have to do some more stuff with it in the future!

    I did a wheat beer with cashmere a few months ago, very light hopping, I think it was a very pleasant beer.

    • @ProstwithPeter
      @ProstwithPeter  3 роки тому +1

      Sounds good! Yeah this was hoppy but because of the emphasis on lager hops, it’s not bitter, but balanced and smooth.

      I added a lot of banana and made a straberry banana extract. Banana really came through on the backend, but I needed more strawberry

    Great videos Peter.
    Are there any downsides to throwing hops in loose in the boil? Are you straining them out of the cooled wort?

    • @ProstwithPeter
      @ProstwithPeter  3 роки тому

      Thanks Charles! My kettle has what’s called a trub dam, so that helps leave a lot of gunk and hop matter down at the bottom of the kettle and not in the fermenter. I could probably benefit from a hop spider, but also having the some hop material in the fermenter is really no big deal in my opinion.

    Hi, greetings from Serbia! Great video, you are doing a great job with you channel! I would like to ask you how do you prevent the air from coming in through airlock during cold crash?

    • @ProstwithPeter
      @ProstwithPeter  3 роки тому +1

      Wow! Serbia! Very cool Milos. Haha great question, and I find that it’s the time spent cold. Because if I have the right level of sanitizer in the airlock (too much and it sucks into the beer, and too little and it doesn’t protect), then it will keep air out for 24-48 hours. I wouldn’t want to leave it crashed any longer than that without transferring to a keg. It’s not perfect but my beers are very rarely if ever oxidized to the point that it’s noticeable.

    Peter! Great job, man. I’ve been looking to use the Bananza strain for a few months now. Just brewed up a blonde ale with the Sundew yeast. Do you plan on doing anything with Sundew?

    • @ProstwithPeter
      @ProstwithPeter  3 роки тому

      Thank you! Yes! I love these yeasts from OYL, but I only bought Lutra and Bananza. I will now be ordering more and trying some new beers! I haven’t had anything brewed with sundew yet.

    Just scored a few free packs of expired Bananza from my brew store. I'll have to give this recipe a try!
    Question on the acid malt - do you find 2% brings the pH where you want?

    • @ProstwithPeter
      @ProstwithPeter  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah 2-4% usually is plenty to get me into the 5.3-5.5 range that I want to be in. I’m not usually too careful about it, but like adding it to a lot of my brews.

    • @johnrettner4907

      @@johnrettner4907 and I’m sure you know this but also do a starter with those expired packs! Helps make sure you’ve got viable yeast on your hands.

    Wait, was that soap or froth in the fermentation bottle??

    • @ProstwithPeter
      @ProstwithPeter  3 роки тому

      That’s foam from the star san sanitizer left over from sanitizing the fermenter!

    is it really okay to cook the yeast? I think the yeast might die and will not eat the sugars and convert them to ethanol
