This video has 9 phone calls starting with a Magneto to Magneto thru a local switchboard, call between to phones connected thru two switchboards, calls within the combination switchboard and calls thru 3 switchboards to different local phones, Then the last call from a magneto phone thru 3 different switchboards to a Smart phone made in 2020 or so. The purpose
is to show the progression of Technology from 1890 thru 2020. Due to the way I recorded the audio it's not the best. The very early phones had low volume, The making of this video was far more complex than I realized.
Other support Shane. There was a scrip used however None of us lived 100 years ago, if we had made this 100% authentic
the 100 Year call would take aprox 3 minutes or so to set up.
The Last call started out from a Magneto phone connected to a WE model
1800 switchboard then tandem thru a WE #12 combination switchboard then over a ringdown trunk to a WE 3Cl toll switchboard, then thru A asterisk system, VOIP to the PSTN network and handed off to a cell phone.

That was a great job! I enjoyed it very much. I must say as a previous cord board supervisor, the rules were very strict. Only key with your index finger, no good morning/afternoon etc., and no listening in! lol. Thanks Again!

Greetings from Dublin Ireland. Great video, thanks for sharing this with us all. I started working with the Post Office in 1961. There was still a lot of magneto exchanges at this time in Ireland.

I would love to see you on a Michael Savage Podcast when he reflects through his writing journals on how life was before cell phones. I think your videos are awesome. In my 50s and we were never educated about the nature of what you put together..... everything from Having manners, to a society that's been outsourced.
I'm starting to see people wanting the older things back. I believe if the equipment was properly maintained, it should work.

So the DTMF transfer was going over to the crossbar switch (or the 1A) and the rotary transfer was going to the SXS?
I have a toll calling switchboard from the 50s (?) How can I determine the model information?

May I inquire about the blue 1a2 desk telephone, how would a 1a2 system work with no dial, or is this something completely different?
If you referring to the non-dial six buttons that it was set up for a manual exchange there is nothing that will detect any dial pulses these were ultra rare because most of the manual changes we're long replaced before the 1A2 was developed. Having a dial or not does not determine if it's a 1A2 system
@@sxsphil oh ok, thank you. I wasn't sure as most 1a2 systems have an intercom proponent, but I assume thay would be an in house operator.

@2:50 how does the operator know that the parties have ended their conversation if this switchboard has no lights? Is there a buzzer?
There are lamps on the key-shelf in-front of the cords that light when the call is finished.
in rural areas isnt it one long ring to alert operator you’re done, i just discovered phones this week
