  • Part four in the new series about how to customise and maintain your angling technics microcat. During the series I’ll be doing various mods to a boat to demonstrate how you can modify your own angling technics microcat.
    This episode, I’ll be running through how I modified the lid so that I can access the boat without having to unseal it each time I need get inside it, whist also keeping it water resistant.

    Real nice series. I just finished my build following Dave step by step. I had some experience with drones so that helped me a lot with soldering. I did not do the last mod on the lid. Just glued it back in (original) design. I also put a 3 camera switch system in the boat for fpv/hull/winch camera with controle on the radio. I topped it off with a hook release on the back.
    Test went great so big shout out to you @Dave🤟👍

    I'm in the process of converting an old mk1 microcat which I got cheap from 40mhz to 2.4ghz.
    A few hiccups along the way including having to remake the lips on the boat where it mates with the lid.
    Also adding 2 x 12v batteries, dimmable leds, self priming mod, remote power on, gps autopilot, fish finder, plus a few other custom bits.
    Your videos really helped me figure some things out Dave and I'll be putting some of that info into the next project which will be a bsa lakestar👍

    Cool video and project bud! I am also building a bait boat, but I got mine designed in fusion 360 and 3d printed :) I am adding a pixhawk autopilot in it with gps, crossfire, long range telemetry, deeper sonar, wi-fi booster for the deeper, 3 cameras with switch, night LED flood light for underwater, two esc jet turbines. I am nearly done with printing the bottom hull, top cover is ready, so I'll share a video as well once I complete it :)

    Thumbs up from me… and a sub. Looking forward to se what you do next.. I might pull my Cult ranger apart and have a look. It died because it let in water and it killed the electrics. Do you fix boats?

    Hi Dave can you give me a make of decent motors to upgrade to as one of mine is lacking power. I will be using all the original equipment for now. Brushless would be good. Cheers Chris

    • @DaveMattock
      @DaveMattock  Рік тому

      Hi Chris, the pumps in the boat have sealed dc brushed motors within them. Brushless motors use completely different speed controllers. Brushless motors are 3 phase motors, whereas brushed dc motors are two phase so if you wanted to use the original equipment, you would at least need to buy new speed controllers to use brushless motors. The next issue would be how to fit the brushless motors inside the sealed pumps within the boat. You would need to cut the pumps open, remove the brushed motors from them and somehow seal the brushless motors back inside them. This is not an easy job. The best advice I can give you is to buy a new pump to replace the one that is lacking power and seal that inside the boat. The pumps Angling Technics use are the Rule 1100 gph pumps.

    Hi mate came across your videos. Bit advanced for me I have a micro cat 3 with fulcrum sonar my futabo controller got soaked and since has not worked properly. Taking into account the boat should be ok how do I go about renewing the controller. Keeping to the basic futabo as it does easily what I need 👍Brian

    Fantastic series of videos these Dave, so much detail and very well put together, hats off 👍 I have an old mk1 microcat which has been in storage, one of the jets seems to be stuck on, have checked the trims but have a feeling its the transmitter, do you think the problem could be inside the boat before i start to unseal it ?

    • @DaveMattock
      @DaveMattock  Рік тому +1

      Thanks very much, you could try taking the handset apart and spraying some contact cleaner on the potentiometers inside to see if it’s one of those having an issue.

    Hi Dave. Just found your channel and watched the mod series. Pretty awesome. I also love the vid with the camera finding gravel patches. That will defo bring more fish in. I have a standard Microcat that’s been sat in the loft for 10 years or so. I’ve recently got back into specimen fishing but found the boat is dead. I think it’s the batteries. They won’t take any charge at all. Any recommendations for replacements? Cheers.

    • @DaveMattock
      @DaveMattock  Рік тому +1

      Thanks very much, glad you liked them. If you want to keep the boat standard, any 6v lead acid batteries should do, Yuasa are probably the best but most expensive brand. If you don’t use the boat much, some cheaper ones would probably be best.

    So I have no idea why I can’t get a good signal?
    I’ve used 2x esc’s and have a permanent live from the batteries, I’ve used the stock lead acid batteries only.
    Do think I need a Mofet switch to improve amperage to the esc’s from the batteries? And would it make any difference to range?
