These distinctions often support the notion of distinct "male" and "female" brains. However, studies in rats suggest that the impact of sex on the brain varies under different circumstances. This observation led to the formulation of the "mosaic" hypothesis, proposing that sex differences in the brain don't consistently align within individuals. Instead, most brains exhibit a mix of features common in both females and males.
