    Nicely done, not so much polishing and tinkering that you lose the feeling that this is an old tool. But enough to bring it back to life again.

    There's something super satisfying when you clean out a bearing, gearbox, or some other inaccessible mechanical assembly with a thin cleaner like WD-40, and so much dirt and old grease works its way out. And almost always the assembly works so much smoother when you're done!

    What a great looking wrench..........I had a few fiddly projects recently and had to channel the spirit of 357magdad and use some sandpaper, Scotch-Brite pads & steel wool by hand and achieved surprisingly good results, you never know how some of the delicate & fussy things are going to go sometimes but every now and then they work out better than expected.

    Nice work Magdad. If I remember correctly Scout used a similar colour on a clamp and I think it looks really nice on old tools, especially with the black highlights. To me it seems a little odd that the handle isn’t symmetrical, it kinda looks like it’s up side down when you’re undoing with it.
    I wouldn’t be too worried about those fibre wheels coming apart as they are designed to go on a grinder. I’ve been using them for a couple of years and never had a problem. In fact, I’m running a 10” diameter one now with no problems. I find the naysayers really annoying as they usually have absolutely no experience with things yet they’re quick to tell how it will fail. Anyway, keep up the videos. Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺

    Came out great. Is it possible that it's not a oil port and it's how they installed the ratchet mechanism? Just looking how it lined up that was my thought when you couldn't get it to move.

    • @357magdad
      @357magdad  4 роки тому +2

      I'm almost positive it's an oiler based on other similar ratchets. I gave it a couple good whacks after heating and she wouldn't budge. I was able to work in some 3 in 1 oil so I think it will be OK.

  • @civicboomer2135
    @civicboomer2135 4 роки тому

    Turned out nice. Looks good with the green. Tools that spin are dangerous. It just is. That said I know what a fiber wheel does to skin! You're better off with a cut. Fiber wheel injuries are like a burn. I still love my fiber wheels. Easy cleaning of metal. It does leave a "grain" pattern in metal that shows. If you're careful you can blend it in one direction.

      There's no way Chuck is gonna let me bring another brand polish into the shop! LOL I'll have to keep an eye out for the Lucas stuff.

      Maybe he’ll enjoy the smell, Lucas claims it does not contain ammonia. 🤷‍♂️ Might try amazon, I have not seen it stocked at many stores. You must be polishing those plastic screwdriver handles with white rouge while he is napping lol.

      I think it's called white spirits in the UK and mineral turpentine in Australia.

    Huge fan. Love all your videos and projects. The outcome of this project was not my preference. After you cleaned it up I thought it looked good. But as soon as you said take out the bumps dents, I thought ‘no bueno’! I was right. No bueno. I’m sure I’m in the minority. Keep up all the videos! Thanks.

      Thanks for watching Jody. You might have caught my comment after I soaked the mechanism in WD-40 that it would be ready for ebay. Many buyers feel like you do that some "patina" and age should be left on the item. If I'm selling it I usually leave the bumps and dents etc. But I'm keeping this one, so I finished it the way I like it. You should check me out on Instagram. 357_magdad. I post more "lightly restored" items there.

    one question I see you have a disclaimer says you don't sell anything but on this video you said the wrench is ready for eBay so do you sell stuff on eBay if you do please let me know cuz I like some of the Restorations you do..

      I always have items up for bid on ebay. My seller name is 357_magdad.
      I don't often list my UA-cam projects because I tend to "over-restore" and this takes away from their resale value.

    A Phonetically challeneged, big, bulky, ugly non-symetrical design, and you cannot just flip a lever to reverse the action. Gotta love it! Excellent paint job also.
    Hey - ope you saved that original liquid Walden from Worcestor patina. There are sure to be a few "leave the patina alone" enthusiasts who could appreciate how rare this historic liquid patina is. Just think of how long and far you would have to search in order to obtain more!

    Another great video. For future projects that have rivets like this, you could invest in a set of diamond burrs from Amazon or Harbor Freight. I purchased this kit:
    www.harborfreight.com/power-tools/rotary-oscillating-tools/rotary-tool-accessories/50-pc-diamond-rotary-point-set-69665.html
    It has many unique shapes that could aid in your vast array of projects.
