All valid points. However you can get through the main story of Fallout 3 in like 35 hours. It also doesn't require deep strategy and knowledge you can play for an hour or two every once in a while. I also haven't played in about 3 years.
***** You dont need deep strategy and knowledge to beat DS you just need some common sense, patience and be willing to learn. You can also play it 1-2 hours a day and the main story is for an average player about 45 hours.

I usually listen to these videos while on the commute home from LA to Riverside and this podcast sounded so entertaining I waited to get home and watch it. Totally worth it! Please do a podcast after/during drinking gameplays again in the future this was hilarious.Also, I'm not sure if you guys will get this often but anyone over 17 knows the recovery from binge drinking is rough as hell. i usually experience the podcasts in video form. while listening to this one through the podcasts app (because my wifi is so shitty i can’t watch a video and game at the same time), this shit had me dying laughing so bad that i HAD to stop gaming and watch this video. the turning point was around the first viewing of fan art. this is definitely among your best podcasts, not the worst.
I guess there's only one or two games that are for ps4 that I want and that's batman arkham night.... Well that's really all I'm waiting for its one of the reasons I don't have a ps4 yet
Man, I like Lawrence because his inputs are always the most analytical and logical, but his opinions on the games from the PS3/XBOX 360 generation I definitely do not agree. His opinion just makes it sound like those types of games have no place in the gaming industry which is not true at all. There's nothing wrong with cutscenes or a game that tells a story (whether you enjoy the story or not, or you don't care about the story that's just based on the player which is fine). Nonetheless this was a good podcast and relatively in-depth look at the industry when it comes to games like Bloodborne.

I'm from the future! Turns out Lawrence, James, and I think Adam started playing Bloodborne, and have admiration for the game now. It's kinda neat because their reasons are that they really appreciate the tactics that go into every encounter, and the enemies and world is really cool!

Jonny Drogba In Machinima they could make daily videos about news, however now they only make 2-3 news videos per week on The Know. Machinima was more friendly because the whole staff was there.

It feels as if the community have become increasingly, and unjustifiably, disappointed with some of the content. All be it a minority. A few complaints about how this isn't "as funny as it used to be". I think its important to remind people that this isn't scripted comedy. Its simply a couple guys playing video games. I watch the videos for their charisma, insight and amusement. I enjoy the video irrespective of whether i burst out laughing. That being said i continue to find their content just as funny.
The gun is used as a weapon to counter an attack when a monster is about to hit you. If you succeed in doing that then you can do a finisher that can take away like 75% to 80% of their health. This is for just "regular" monsters, idk for bosses though.
We all have on screen personas and Spoole tends to be an adorable sock monkey. He's aware of it and even plays it up for the sake of entertainment. I understand your concern but we're all friends and this is just a slice of our daily interaction. Also holy shit we were drunk.

if you played it, you would know that's not the case at all. if anything, its the sequel demon souls deserved and you cant play this game like you play dark souls.
Well, Darks Souls 3 doesn't exist, so no. If it did exist though, the combat would probably be more like Dark Souls 2 than Bloodborne. It would also probably take place in a medieval fantacy setting instead of a Gothic Imperial setting.

Whenever these podcasts come out they are one of my favorite parts of the day. Keep doing what you're doing, I'll continue to follow you guys to whatever channel or website you post on.
Dude soup has been such a consistently good podcast... until this episode. It's not just that you where drunk, it's that you are talking over each other about different topics, focusing mainly on gameplay that most of the listeners aren't here to see. Lawrence was the only person staying on track, he is the Gus Sorola of your podcast
I personally don't find any of them funny. Wanna watch a funny gaming podcast take a look at Mega64s. They always crack me up to the point of tears. They also have some of the best sponsor ads I've ever seen, they just rip the shit outta their sponsors and make shit up about them. I'm surprised they still have sponsors. Gotta love that Kickapoo!

SilhouetteTV doesn't mean anything that the top selling games lack story. that is my not my point my point is that they act like it is always a waste or pointless. when it can save a game from being absolute crap. silent hill 2 is considered one of the best games ever but without the story it would never be popular and most would never have heard of it.some games just don't have new or inventive ways of playing games. a story can give you reason to play a game you would normality dismiss as crap or boring.
Shy Guy That's not a great example... most of the story in SH2 is really implicit and metaphorical. That game doesn't lock you into long cutscenes where the developers read a story to you.
Lawrence Sonntag True I will admit I chose it due to how the story was praised over the gameplay and I mostly used it to show how if you care about what is going on your more inclined to continue the game despite it not faring well in term of mechanics. So maybe not the best point in terms of "cinematic" games that do force you to sit and wait and yes it is true not being able to do something for a hour is way to long,. but a good story is still a story and I am tend to see it as a minor problem of the time when games were trying to see what they could do now in terms with both gameplay and writing

A huge part of that game's appeal and apparent strengths, was it's story. *It undeniably would have been a whole lot worse without John Marston's heavily cutscene-driven tale - an inferior video-game, and an inferior interactive experience*. *End of.* *Stories can improve the quality of most games, whether it is presented more organically* (e.g, talking to NPCs on horseback) *or cinematically* (e.g, a cowboy movie-like presentation). *There's a place for both*. *You're denial that this sort of story presentation has a place in gaming, is over-simplistic and a bit extreme*. *There is a place for varying degrees in which gameplay and story can interact, and there is certain balances the work for different audiences*(I know that sounds borderline-PC in nature, but it's true). I tried out The Order:1886, and thought it was a poor game. Alternatively, I loved Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid and The Last Of Us, which have better gameplay than the vast majority of third person-action games, and even straight-up third-person shooters (The Last Of Us especially, has a superb multiplayer component), while also having good stories and dialogue. You also seem to give games like Alan Wake, with clunkier less enjoyable gameplay, a far fairer critique and practically a free pass. *You largely look at cutscenes and gameplay as only ever hurting each other, rather than ever meaningfully aiding each other*; *and in a game like Red Dead Redemption* (I won't debate the others because you guys will never agree), *that's far from the case*. Because I spent so much time with John Martson, *it meant that the cutscenes were more impactful than they otherwise would have been in a movie* (it's not like I'm just watching a movie), and RDR's ending was much more powerful than it ever would have been in a movie as a by-product of this, despite a huge chunk of his character development being delivered in a movie-like way. *This is something I think you should think about*. Additionally, a game you championed in recent years, Wolfenstein: The New Order, *relies quite heavily on cutscenes* (which are created in a Quentin Tarantino movie-style) *to provide it's story*. You're being a bit disingenuous claiming it as a pure gaming experience, alongside the likes of the muted Half-Life 2. Robert Demsky You don't just play these games to mindlessly kill stuff. The lore and the story is a big part of the appeal. It just doesn't throw it in your face. Instead, you're supposed to figure out and piece together most of the story yourself by paying attention to the enemies and areas, reading item descriptions and talking to NPCs. If you don't have the patience for these games, whatever, it's your choice. Doesn't mean you have to be a condescending prick about it

Am I the only one here that thinks Adam, bruce and james aren't as funny as they used to be like they were in last december for example? Idk, ever since they moved to this new channel, im finding myself not laughing as much as i used too. Dont get me wrong, I love watching there videos, but they aren't making me laugh anymore.

Jonny Drogba In Machinima they could make daily videos about news, however now they only make 2-3 news videos per week on The Know. Machinima was more friendly because the whole staff was there.
So I watched about 15 minutes of this during my lunch break and was a little annoyed by it, but then after work I had a bunch of drinks and kept watching...and I love you guys.

It feels as if the community have become increasingly, and unjustifiably, disappointed with some of the content. All be it a minority. A few complaints about how this isn't "as funny as it used to be". I think its important to remind people that this isn't scripted comedy. Its simply a couple guys playing video games. I watch the videos for their charisma, insight and amusement. I enjoy the video irrespective of whether i burst out laughing. That being said i continue to find their content just as funny.
The gun is used as a weapon to counter an attack when a monster is about to hit you. If you succeed in doing that then you can do a finisher that can take away like 75% to 80% of their health. This is for just "regular" monsters, idk for bosses though.
My only problem with Bloodbourne are the load times, everything else is pretty great...

Well, Darks Souls 3 doesn't exist, so no. If it did exist though, the combat would probably be more like Dark Souls 2 than Bloodborne. It would also probably take place in a medieval fantacy setting instead of a Gothic Imperial setting.
I love reading thru the comments, especially the negative ones. The people who just don't like their humor or the way they do things, those people make me smile. Whenever these podcasts come out they are one of my favorite parts of the day. Keep doing what you're doing, I'll continue to follow you guys to whatever channel or website you post on.
Dude soup has been such a consistently good podcast... until this episode. It's not just that you where drunk, it's that you are talking over each other about different topics, focusing mainly on gameplay that most of the listeners aren't here to see. Lawrence was the only person staying on track, he is the Gus Sorola of your podcast
Also less fan art could be nice, takes up a lot of the podcast and audio listeners can't listen to any of it.

i will have to disagree i feel games should have a plot or story access able in the games like mass effect or dragon age were i can look it up it somewhat irks me that you guys just sort of dismiss plot as unneeded or a waste of time when a good plot can make or break a game or even take a good gme and make it great besides david cage isn't a good example to use due to how shitty his plots are anyway
SilhouetteTV doesn't mean anything that the top selling games lack story. that is my not my point my point is that they act like it is always a waste or pointless. when it can save a game from being absolute crap. silent hill 2 is considered one of the best games ever but without the story it would never be popular and most would never have heard of it.some games just don't have new or inventive ways of playing games. a story can give you reason to play a game you would normality dismiss as crap or boring.
Shy Guy That's not a great example... most of the story in SH2 is really implicit and metaphorical. That game doesn't lock you into long cutscenes where the developers read a story to you.
Lawrence Sonntag True I will admit I chose it due to how the story was praised over the gameplay and I mostly used it to show how if you care about what is going on your more inclined to continue the game despite it not faring well in term of mechanics. So maybe not the best point in terms of "cinematic" games that do force you to sit and wait and yes it is true not being able to do something for a hour is way to long,. but a good story is still a story and I am tend to see it as a minor problem of the time when games were trying to see what they could do now in terms with both gameplay and writing

Lawrence, whenever a game has a good story that contributes towards the quality of a game, *you say that the story is just an irrelevant part of the equation or doesn't matter*, e.g, Red Dead Redemption. In my opinion, that's a big problem with your argument, which would buckle to an extent if anyone on the Podcast ever challenged you, or ever really played Devil's advocate. A huge part of that game's appeal and apparent strengths, was it's story. *It undeniably would have been a whole lot worse without John Marston's heavily cutscene-driven tale - an inferior video-game, and an inferior interactive experience*. *End of.*
*Stories can improve the quality of most games, whether it is presented more organically* (e.g, talking to NPCs on horseback) *or cinematically* (e.g, a cowboy movie-like presentation). *There's a place for both*. *You're denial that this sort of story presentation has a place in gaming, is over-simplistic and a bit extreme*. *There is a place for varying degrees in which gameplay and story can interact, and there is certain balances the work for different audiences*(I know that sounds borderline-PC in nature, but it's true). I tried out The Order:1886, and thought it was a poor game. Alternatively, I loved Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid and The Last Of Us, which have better gameplay than the vast majority of third person-action games, and even straight-up third-person shooters (The Last Of Us especially, has a superb multiplayer component), while also having good stories and dialogue. I really love this dynamic, *and most others appreciate it too, while also enjoying purer gameplay experiences*(I personally mostly play open-world games). If Uncharted never focused on the story, while retaining the same gameplay, you probably would have never of had the issues you have with it today, or likely never would have given it a second thought. You also seem to give games like Alan Wake, with clunkier less enjoyable gameplay, a far fairer critique and practically a free pass.
*You largely look at cutscenes and gameplay as only ever hurting each other, rather than ever meaningfully aiding each other*; *and in a game like Red Dead Redemption* (I won't debate the others because you guys will never agree), *that's far from the case*. Because I spent so much time with John Martson, *it meant that the cutscenes were more impactful than they otherwise would have been in a movie* (it's not like I'm just watching a movie), and RDR's ending was much more powerful than it ever would have been in a movie as a by-product of this, despite a huge chunk of his character development being delivered in a movie-like way. *This is something I think you should think about*.
Additionally, a game you championed in recent years, Wolfenstein: The New Order, *relies quite heavily on cutscenes* (which are created in a Quentin Tarantino movie-style) *to provide it's story*. You're being a bit disingenuous claiming it as a pure gaming experience, alongside the likes of the muted Half-Life 2. The more organic story content doesn't actually work as well, despite the alternate-future references being quite good . *Without the cutscenes, Blasco would have been less fleshed out, and dull by comparison*. *I'll remind you, in these instances, you could have put the controller down at any point, but at the same time, when you picked back up the controller, you'd have more of a reason to play*. *Do you think MachineGames should have cut these sections out or cut them down*? *If not, then you in some form agree that video-games can be superior experiences with the aid of cutscenes*.

Robert Demsky You don't just play these games to mindlessly kill stuff. The lore and the story is a big part of the appeal. It just doesn't throw it in your face. Instead, you're supposed to figure out and piece together most of the story yourself by paying attention to the enemies and areas, reading item descriptions and talking to NPCs.
If you don't have the patience for these games, whatever, it's your choice. Doesn't mean you have to be a condescending prick about it

I actually liked this. normally, people talking over each other and messing around while trying to accomplish something is not for me, but this reminded me of my buddies and I bullshitting around and playing video games.
