- The largest crane on the eastern seaboard has arrived at the site of the Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore and can move 1,000 tons. Another crane, capable of transporting 400 tons, is expected to arrive over the weekend. A cargo ship slammed into the Key Bridge in Baltimore on Tuesday morning, causing the bridge to come crashing down into the river, and killing six construction workers.

Crane
CRANE … not CRAIN
Just like Boeing, this is the US product quality LOL.
Possible the ship took on water.
After clearing the bridge iron off it.
Next should be emptying the containers out of the ship.
Then float the ship.
This time use as many tugs as a aircraft carrier always has standing by. Also shadowing the carrier as it pulls into port,
Something should be done with a vessel bigger than a aircraft carrier.
By hind sight it may have a bit cheaper to do that. YA THINK?
Oh and the shortest route from DC to Wilmington, Delaware? The used to be over the F.S. Key bridge.
Oh and it also is a usta bee part of the Beltway.
Well as said in the Navy(by enlisted). "It takes a college to degree to make a mess like that. And a Annapolis grad to make it worse."
Prayers for all the families that lost love ones and prayers for the safety of all those involved in this process 🙏🏽💔🇺🇸🙏🏽🙏🏽
I Retired at the end of 2022 after 50 years working at almost every port facility in Baltimore, When the Key Bridge was built in the mid 70's ships were nowhere near the size they are now. Ships with automobiles were still bulk carriers using the ships cranes to lift the cars one at a time from the holds and place them dockside to be driven away. I was there! Containers were new and pure container ships like this were not yet around. These ships now are many times the size they were then.
Did you know Frank Sabotka?
Yes, the good old days. I'm thankful to have been raised in them. Look at the massive size of the cruise ships, they're basically a floating city. God Bless you and yours. Stay safe.
And your point is?
Cool. Heard that from basic info. Get a job.
How did we build a bridge that a ship could destroy. Heads should roll.
I love how he compares the size of the ship to the Eiffel Tower and says, "That really puts the size of this into perspective." No, the size of the ship puts the size of the ship in perspective. More of us have seen one of these ships in person than have seen the Eiffel Tower. Seeing one of these ships puts the Eiffel Tower into perspective. Reporters are braindead.

The large crane was over on the other side of the cranes they have to cut it apart and put it together so they can use it I guess you didn't catch that part

Wow, this is a perfect example of how weak we are as a nation now. Pearl Harbor was attacked in 1941 and within 3 months most of the navy vessels were refloated and were either repaired enough to return to mainland USA for refits but within a few days the port was back up and running for war effort. Now we ship block a major port and we are hemming and hawing over murky water and a craine.
Hell look at some of the highway construction zone 10 yrs, 15 yrs, 20 yrs n still ain't done. Let's give MD $60 million, Biden and congress passed. No let the ships insurance pay. Really, I know of the crane of which you speak of, but come on, the water isn't deep enough or wide enough to get it up to the bridge. I'm on the Saipian 30000 mt vessel
@@jasonbailey4411 From the look of it they are going to have to dredge into some parts of that span like they did when it was installed anyway. The Army Corp of Engineers is already there and they have a number of dredges available to make that happen. Other wise it is going to take a very long time to remove the old span. In the lower mainland of BC the old Highway #1 bridge across the Fraser River took almost two years and 1 billion dollars to remove. The environmentalists demanded Nothing would go into the water from that demolition so it took that long to do it.
This is just too much like the tragedy that happened back Florida in 1980. When a freighter coming into the port of Tampa Bay, slammed into the old Sunshine Skyway bridge. 35 people died in that accident.

I'm getting a little tired of the emphasis on "X containers of hazardous materials." Every container ship and train will have hazmat on it. You know what kinds of things are considered hazmat? Hairspray. CO2 cartridges. Road flares. Cleaning chemicals. Batteries. The list goes on and on. This whole sensationalizing of the ship carrying hazmat is totally unnecessary; it's not noteworthy at all. Hazmat travels through your city every day, all over the place, in the form of regular household things that you use every day. Stop trying to increase the drama and fear for no reason.
..this knucklehead has n😮o clue what he's talking about...
Ahahahahhaahhaha!!!! I live 4 miles from the site that used to have the key bridge. There’s a running joke (that’s actually not a joke) around here that the water in the patapsco is less water and more sewage, runoff, and general pollution.
