    🤔 ABOUT THIS VIDEO 👇
    Whether you are living the nomadic life globetrotting the world or working from home, having a reliable internet connection is something ALL remote workers rely heavily on. This means your connection to the outside world is a bottleneck.
    I was a professional diver for many years and have logged well over 2000 dives. Scuba divers use regulators to breathe under pressure and these “regs” are designed to be fail-safe. This means that if there was a mechanical failure, the regulator would free flow air. The idea is that the diver would hopefully be supplied enough air to do a controlled ascent and reach the surface.
    Your access to the internet is mission-critical and losing this access will result in a serious impairment. Set yourself up for success and make sure you can stay online. Divers have a fail-safe regulator so make sure you have a fail-safe plan to stay online.

      Great video thanks. I just stumbled upon the Skyroam a couple of days ago when I bugged out from hurricane Delta. It made me curious as to if it could be used as a complete replacement to my current internet supplier as they have a reputation for spoty service when it comes to phone, internet and cable tv. In your opinion could Skyroam be used as a full time alternative ? I'm even curious if there would be a way to hook a Roku box to it. I realize this may all seem a bit odd, but after the lethargic response my provider has given after two back to back hurricanes I'm looking for a means of maintaining phone and all forms of information connections. If you have heard of anyway someone who has been forced into being a nomad can accomplish this and succeed in cutting the cord I would appreciate your input and information. Thanks in advance.

      @@masonsrock49 Really good points here. We live in a world that demands online connection and any disruptions to that connection can result in all kinds of chaos. I haven't needed to test the Skyroam during/after a hurricane (glad you are ok by the way!) But there have been reports of the Skyroam connecting to the local infrastructure that natural disasters left unaffected. I haven't needed to use Skyroam for more than a backup. Although, they have increased their pricing and plan options which certainly makes it a more attractive option. Perhaps if anyone out there has experienced using Skyroam on a more permanent basis, they can comment here and share their insights! I suspect these connection problems we see today will disappear by 2024 or so. If you watch my video above, I explain why. Until then... Skyroam will serve as a great option!

    I ordered one for work. It gives 1 gb data per month. Perfect for my square credit card reader. I was paying verizon $16 per month for 1gb data the last 7 years.

    Loved your reivew. Thanks so much for sharing. I am definitely wanting to buy one now. They have a bundle that includes a year but only 1GB per month. The only benefit is it would any day of the year, but I would definitely need more certain days. Can I buy a day pass to upgrade a day on the 1 year GoData plan. What do you find works best for your needs? Thanks so much!

      I suggest checking out their different payment plans and picking the one that works best for you. I use mine as an emergency backup for when I lose access to wifi (the internet always tends to go down when you have a BIG meeting scheduled or something that MUST get done.) Or I use my Skyroam when I'm in transit (bus/train) for a long duration and I want to be productive. As long as you are within range of cell towers, it works!

    I have a Solis Lite and 1 wanted to use it today as a power bank to charge my iphone. Nothing happens if I connect the Solis Lite to my iphone so that indicates I have to turn the Solis Lite on. Surely by turning on the Solis Lite it connects me to the internet which I don't want to do as every time I connect to the internet I use one of my day passes. Does this mean the power bank only operates when I am connected to the internet or is there a way I can use the power bank without connecting to the internet?

    Hi, Thank you for your review. I actually wanted to buy this to use when I am working on cruise ships. I realise it won't work when the ship is out at sea but do you think it would work when the ship is In port?
    Thanks.

    • @DigitalNomadJourney

      As long as the port is close enough to cell towers and local infrastructure and you are in 1 of the 130+ countries the device works in, it should do the trick.

    Thanks for the review! I am a teacher working remotely (via Zoom and Microsoft Teams), and I have an upcoming month-long trip to the Yucatan, where I'll be staying for a month in a small town named Cenotillo. I am considering using Skyroam for work during my trip, but am worried about the device not handling my meetings (some days I am on Zoom for ~5hrs). Do you think the device could handle such a workload?

    • @DigitalNomadJourney
      @DigitalNomadJourney  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Luke! I'm envious... I love the Yucatan. If you are a Diver, check out the cenotes! As long as you are close enough to cell towers, the Skyroam will serve you well. They have different payment options and I've only ever used day passes. I use Zoom a lot too and the Skyroam worked for me when I was in Playa del Carmen. One time I had to use a second day pass due to a higher data demand that I had that particular day. Good luck!

    I really liked your information. It answered alot of question I have. Quite different to your using the skyroam, I am buying this for my 88 yo mother who because of c-19 inhouse bound. She can't go to church for Mass so she uses the iphone that I gave her to use so I could always be able to stay in contact with her but she views Mass on it. Well as you could image looking at the little screen for an hour gives her problems. She does not want a wifi system in her house so I was looking for something that she could use and it would be cheap enough for her. Please give me your opinion I am thinking of buying the monthly go program for $9 so if she want to use the ipad I gave her to view Mass and maybe view other things it would be enough for her. What do you thinK?

    • @DigitalNomadJourney
      @DigitalNomadJourney  2 роки тому

      I think that is a viable option but it does depend on how much content she will end up viewing. Luckily, Skyroam does offer different data plans so if 1 option doesn't work for you, I'd like to think you can switch. I don't work on their team and it's primary an emergency backup for me.

    • @DigitalNomadJourney
      @DigitalNomadJourney  3 роки тому

      I've never tried the Skyroam in Ireland but Ireland is listed on their website so I would say your chances are good. I've made plenty of calls/texts using Skyroam (WhatsApp, Facebook and other apps). It's easy when you have multiple devices linked to one Skyroam too.

    This sounds like a device that will probably work for my needs, but I am always thinking about worst case scenario. Are there other similar devices that use satellites for more complete coverage?

    • @DigitalNomadJourney
      @DigitalNomadJourney  3 роки тому +2

      I've done some research and those devices are out there but from what I found, they can be very expensive. Satellite devices are a better option if you tend to spend time in very remote locations and/or if you have a large commercial operation. But I find the Skyroam is your best bet for digital nomads and remote workers who tend to be within range of cell phone towers.

    Great information :)
    So, if multiple people were sharing the same connection, and using Google maps, phoning and texting each other, and using laptops, what might the battery life look like? Could it conceivable last all day?
    Also, how long does it take to re-charge?

    • @DigitalNomadJourney
      @DigitalNomadJourney  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks and great questions however I can't say I've tested battery life with the number of devices using WiFi. I only have 3 devices that require WiFi but I've only ever needed to use 2 at the same time. I think it's reasonable to assume that if you are using the device as a power source, that will drain the battery much quicker than connecting multiple devices for WiFi. Plus, this will help you save your cell phone's battery. Since we already know that using your phone as a hotspot will drain that battery considerably. In my experience, using it for Google maps uses very little power. When using it to do my “work” or uploading YT videos, I can keep the Skyroam charged easily. Regarding time to fully charge the Skyroam… I can’t say I’ve timed this. But after plugging it in to my laptop’s USB for a few hours, it was showing 100%.

    • @vBailey
      @vBailey 3 роки тому +2

      @@DigitalNomadJourney Thanks Andrew for clarifying. I'm making the same assumptions re: using as a power source. Am also thinking that the safest way to use it will be its main purpose (wifi connection :). Am appreciating your videos... hope you keep it up!

    • @DigitalNomadJourney
      @DigitalNomadJourney  3 роки тому

      From the sounds of it, it's too remote for the Skyroam. The Skyroam Solis connects with the local infrastructure (cell towers) and if there are no towers around, than it won’t work. You could look at some satellite options but they tend to be very expensive.

    I read online that this device has SIM card slot can you confirm id it works with t-mobile or at&t

    • @DigitalNomadJourney
      @DigitalNomadJourney  3 роки тому

      Skyroam uses a virtual sim network. No need for SIM cards and my device doesn't have a SIM card slot. That is a feature because you aren't relying on one network for service which could go down for whatever reason.

      I too am wondering if wired connections are possible. Generally you never would have a need. But traditional routers that have ethernet ports perform much more efficiently than broadcasting a wifi signal. Type C USB cables can generally allow speeds up to 10GBPS. This would allow you to maximize speeds your local infrastructure can produce...if it was possible.. ?

      I chose the "daypass" plan and I've only hit the limit once and noticed a slower speed. But all I had to do was use a second day pass and my speed bumped right back up. It's only happened once. Most of the time a daypass is enough for me. And if that doesn't suit you, they offer more pricing options now.
