Yes Metheny had a toothbrush he used to fix the tail bridge of his old ES175 every night on tour... One of the main reason he accepted Ibanez' offer was to build much more robust instruments, which they ABSOLUTELY are! Metheny posted a pic on his FB this past month, with his Gibson. You can still see the toothbrush! He kept it!!! This guy is just... There you go for the little story.
what makes all of this doing ten videos in a day thing even better is the fact they are doing this for one of the most confusingly named guitar brands/series out there since theyre all just abunch of letters and numbers haha
An Andertons made me do it moment, I phoned the shop this morning and following a conversation with a very nice chap I have ordered an Ibanez AM2000 :). Lets just hope lockdown is over so I can come to the shop in March to collect it..... I'm so excited :):)
Thanks for the demo on all three. It's a shame here in the U.S. we can't demo these guitars in person. Guitar Center carries them online, but doesn't stock them in stores. In other words you have to buy it to even get your hands on one and play it. Quite a bummer.
Man that first large hollow body is amazing. They’re all great but I’m a big fan of the first. I got the GBEM in 2020-so it’s quite close to the smaller hollow body
The guitars in the Artstar line are really special. I own the AS153 which is basically like an AS200 (now the AS2000?), just a little more affordable, and let me tell you, that tritone switch is awesome. I was smiling when they were trying to describe the difference in sound. It is subtle, but the more you hear it and play the guitar, the more you notice it, especially the feel of it. If anyone is worried about the neck being slim, don't be, they are very fat and wide, but not uncomfortable. So don't be put of by the neck being a bit fat/chunky either. Not normally something I would love this much, not at all, but what can I say, I love using mine, when I want to force myself, to play differently than I'm used to. The neck on my AS153 would however be a little fatter/chunkier than the AS200 and/or AS2000 is. Neck profile is one of the few differences between the different models in the range/line, apart from where they are built of course. And let me tell you about the tone, it is amazing, especially with the tritone set in the singlecoil position for rythm or clean/crunchy, and then kick in either the parallel or series position for lead or a little gainier tone. Or just flick the pickup selector and get middle (coil split/parallel/series) or bridge position, just lovely. Honestly, I don't know, if I love the feel of it more, or if it's the tone that pulls me in. Just amazing guitars in the entire range/line. The neck takes a little getting used to, but once I did, I just loved it. Nothing like feeling stuck in a box or a rut, and then picking up my AS153, and just not doing anything the way I would on my Strat or my Les Paul, or any other guitar really. And just to be clear, my AS153 is the more affordable version of the AS200 (now the AS2000?), but I have played a few of them, and they are all amazing. And of course the more you pay, the more you get. And to compare it to a Gibson, would be unfair to Gibson, to me however, there is no contest, this smokes any Gibson. But to be fair, a Gibson feels entirely different, great but different, but that's kind of what I love about my Ibanez. It is nothing like a Gibson, although inspired by, but I guess just a bit more. Ibanez is known for doing super "strats", I would say this is like a super Gibson ES guitar, to kind of give you an idea about the difference, but still not really.
AS153 is made in Indonesia. Great guitar, but its direct/comparative equivalent is the AS113 which superseded it in 2022. Pickguard cosmetic notwithstanding, pretty much the only difference between the two are the top wood. 153 has Flamed Maple. 113 has Spruce. Same hardware. Same fret treatment. Same build quality. Same price point a modest price rise for the new model release notwithstanding.
@@theblytonian3906 Mine was made in China some years ago now, it's not a new guitar, it has a few years of use. But still a great guitar. If they changed factories to Indonesia from China, I wouldn't know, and any potential buyer shouldn't care either.
@@theblytonian3906 Oh and thanks for info on the AS113, I haven't come across it myself, but any guitar in the Artstar range is worth checking out. Really cool guitars.
You need to make a comparison video of different semi hollow and hollow body guitars available in this price range. It’d be great to see what all high quality Es 335 type guitars are available in the market and how they fare against each other.
I must have the AF, but that AM reminds me of the ES-Les Paul 2016 that I let go! Oh my!!!! And I've been chomping at the bit waiting for this video! Thank you!!!
How do you think this compares to the Yamaha ASOS 2000 another Japanese guitar using another strain of maple from somewhere calling it Sycamore but actually the particular Sycamore they’re using is a maple strain and again 335 construction however a poly finish similar to this one, but in the same price range out of the box Just curious to know your thoughts thanks guys love all your videos don’t comment too often because you have so many comments that I’m kind of thinking you might get a little overwhelmed, but I try to never miss a video truly and have purchased a lot of equipment here in the US and have only been to your store once, but did not get the opportunity to only meet Rob You guys weren’t around that day but I’ll be back in February and look forward to seeing you then by the way, what is the fretboard radius it does not appear to be written anywhere, unless I’m just missing it 13:5514:0014:12
that AM-2000 sounds lush. That said, I have my Eastman El Rey 2 which has the same kind of construction, just different materials etc. Would love to compare these two models side-by-side!
I had a Prestige Artist AR320 2007....best built axe I EVER owned. Retailed for ~$4000 I got it for $2800 direct from Japan. Was an AMAZING Axe! Until...The (EX!)Old Lady imitated Pete Townshend with it!
There's a great youtube video that does just that, i am impressed by both brands and own the Yamaha version SA2200. I am awaiting delivery of the Ibanez AF 2000 hollowbody then I'll have the best of both worlds. My Yamaha is top notch and my go to guitar; you can play anything on it. It also has single coil pu options.
Is the AM2000H (maybe the other as well) wired in 50's wiring. And would that mean there is a "Kill" feature when toggling to the center position, it will "Kill" the pickup you switched off of if you had the other volume set to zero? I didn't hear if you mentioned if this was 50s wiring and if there was a "Kill" feature. I'm not familar with 50s wiring at all, but was told that there is the potential to "Kill" a pickup when switching the toggle to the center position if one other pickup was set to zero. Ideas?
Personally I understand the appeal for nitro finishes, but I like the look and durability of polyurethane finishes, so Im not put off by them being poly finished. If I didn’t already have a Gretsch, I would definitely consider an Artcore.
None of these guitars are in stock. Bring back the 'In Stock' filter to the site, please ! - the site is just one big tease without stock filtering, i.e. it's pointless.
I'm still soaking in my shorts for the chance to view Pete get his hands on the Josh Smith T-Style Ibanez. Either way, great upload, the -AM-2000-H was also my favorite.
Shocked that you would mention Pat Metheny. The toothbrush is a bizarre way to hold the strap on. But Pete sounded more like John Scofield on the big one. How about some Bryan Setzer style on that? I bet it can rockabilly just fine.
Sorry but the larger bodied Ibanez ES-335 sounds so much better than the smaller version. Same goes for Gibson's 335 compared to its 339. I have them all so I know.
I found the exact opposite comparing an as95 to a sheraton in the shop! I found the super 58 waaay brighter and more versatile, the sheraton sounded like if neck and bridge p.u. were the same one!
@@FabrizioPeretti hmmmm... strange. I've had my epiphone sheraton for a few years now and still always found the pickups to be bright. (and Im used to telecasters and P90s)
Gibson's equivalent of the last one? 2013 ES 390, except that one's got minihumbuckers ('14-'15 390s have P90s). But, Gibson borrowed the original idea from Ibanez's 1974 Model 1912 (came w/P90s).

Great update, my first "real" guitar was a black Ibanez Artists AR2619 in 1979 for 1600 Dutch guilders, worth 6 weeks of holiday work at the age of 16. Sold it 5 years later as I needed a car and always regretted it. years later when i started playing again I bought a re-issue the AR420 in 2015 (looks identical to the semi hollow AR520 from the other video) and that didn't do it for me. Then in 2016 a "real" reissue was introduced the Prestige AR2619 that I think comes from the same factory as the guitars in this video. Perfect finish, heavy, Super80's "flying finger" PU's. On my wish list was a semi-hollow one. The previous AS200 was only available in an ugly Yellow Sunburst, so I was saving for a JSM100 (even though a ideally don't like signature guitars). So my question: How does the AS2000 compares to the JSM100? It looks to me that they are very comparable, same hardware (510 are Gotoh tuners), but the JSM has no tri-sound switch and has a compound radius neck. I like the headstock of the JSM better than the AS2000 (that looks identical to the AM2000 of this video). Thanks again guys, nice video.
510's are Gotoh. I literally just last week bought a Thinline style guitar (Romeo SC) which also has 510's on. I'd have bought from you but you don't carry Eastman.
Is the Romeo as good as it looks? Looks incredible, especially with those Lollar pickups. I’d really love to try one but very very rare here in Australia.
@@chrisjs6123 Reach out to them and see if you could startup an Aus online dropshipping store for them. But, to answer your Q. I got that seymour duncan pups in mine. I love it! It's so comfortable to play and has brilliant tones both clean and dirty. It's by far the most luxury guitar I've ever owned and would def buy that brand again. I knew the name because of their reputation in Mandolins and gave them a chance. It's a pity Anderton's don't carry them.
I know it’s not quite the same, but I’d like to see my Epiphone Casino Coupe up next to that AM. I get the same “unique Guitar” feeling I think you’re referring to here...
Does anyone know if you can install a strap button onto the shoulder straight off the bat or do you need to add a wood block to the inside for support?
that AS is beautiful and sounds just fantastic! Quick question, though (as the specs on the Anderton's site are slightly vague) - is the body made with solid (carved) anigre top and back or are they laminated?

It's so comfortable to play and has brilliant tones both clean and dirty. It's by far the most luxury guitar I've ever owned and would def buy that brand again. I knew the name because of their reputation in Mandolins and gave them a chance. It's a pity Anderton's don't carry them.
I know it’s not quite the same, but I’d like to see my Epiphone Casino Coupe up next to that AM. I get the same “unique Guitar” feeling I think you’re referring to here...
...Ibaneztastic...!!!
Does anyone know if you can install a strap button onto the shoulder straight off the bat or do you need to add a wood block to the inside for support?
The AM-2000 is a bit like an ES-345 varitone
"I wanna' play with my dingeling"
Det er jeg sikker på du vil Pete :)
that AS is beautiful and sounds just fantastic! Quick question, though (as the specs on the Anderton's site are slightly vague) - is the body made with solid (carved) anigre top and back or are they laminated?
Laminated Prestige??? I HIGHLY Doubt it!
If you two released music, I'd buy it. Something like Bea's grinding gears maybe?
Guys you need to meet Tom Ibarra, the youngest Ibanez endorsee! He's a STELLAR modern jazz/fusiony player, check his performances out!
These aren’t just for jazz. I believe Scofield plays one with Gov’t Mule sometimes?
Yes you're correct.
Nice jazz boxes 👍
