No I think totally different the mainstream of j-rock music are incredible Japanese in a modern way maybe not like an Enka singer but their totally authentic of look for their progression they have an unique way to do music doesn’t sound like western music even pop ... Japanese music even the mainstream are very very authentic,their skills with instruments are masterful way up western musicians, I lived in japan and worked in Warner music for 3 years I leave Japan for 3 years and I will come back in January 2021

Sounds a lot like America’s music scene but smaller? I suppose it depends what city you’re in, but it’s either labels for 1 or 2 genres, or you’re on your own for anything else
I'm doing an undergrad in music and if all goes well, a music postgrad in japan (partially via an exchange scheme or just applying directly as an international student).
I know it is notoriously difficult to get a visa in Japan specifically for musicians and artists in general due to needing essentially international recognition. I am genuinely curious what the creative industries are like for people who do music/the arts as a living in Japan.
Are there any openings in the music world/creative industries for foreigners that would be viable to try out for?
I definitely have backups as I have job experience in various things like admin, event management and service but Music has always been the subject that I have a true passion in and I love the creative industries for Video Games, Anime, Film and Tv etc. If anyone has thoughts, comment, ideas etc. I would love to hear them!
I wished he talked more about music times and practices. Cause he was talking about how he used to play at midnight and later. But he doesn't do that, and he talked about the rooms where you have to be extra quiet compared to London cause of the wall thickness. So I'd be curious, where he practices. Like, is it really cheap to rent out recording studios, and you just need to look. Or are there good parks you can go to, where people are fine with you practicing before you are ready for official recordings?
(I ask this cause I had an experience where in the middle of the afternoon, I decided to try playing a little bit of tin whistle in an outside park in Tokyo close to the Ueno Zoo, and I was told to stop by an older gentleman before I even finished one piece. I don't mean to be rude, I know not to play on trains, and I want to be respectful, not wake people up in the middle of the night, etc. But I just don't know what to do. Was that just a weird example of a park, and most parks what I did would be fine? Anybody knowledgeable about this, I'd love to hear, cause I want to go back, but this is one concern that I have.)
