    Great video, but may I make a suggestion? You only get one set of eyes, and eyelids are really thin. Safety glasses are inexpensive, and will protect your priceless vision. I know it seems like overkill for such a simple process, but it only takes one bad moment to lose an eye. 😁

    • @Creeptique
      @Creeptique  7 років тому +26

      Yes! I don't know why I didn't! I was thinking so much about being careful in case anyone younger wanted to attempt this, but it would have been way more safe to mention safety goggles!
      I've been thinking about remaking the video, and if I do, I'll mention that first before anything! :D

    • @LaynieFingers

      Macabre Shop That's totally understandable. I'm just one of those people who are obsessive about safety, especially eyes. I once had an accident with a Dremel tool, and I think it could have been pretty bad if I hadn't been wearing safety goggles. We always feel like we're going to be careful and be safe, but that's why they're called accidents. 😁

      Creeptique I lost my “good eye” at work. I was 8feet from the saw facing AWAY, while my boss was cutting quarter inch “door skin” with a dull circular blade, 10inch. We would keep the safety cover off the table saw while we used it because there are many cuts that can only be made while it’s off. It’s pretty devastating for me to have this vision loss. This injury leads to “Macular degeneration & then to total blindness. Idk why, but it will eventually spread over into other eye. It’s been 14yrs since my accident and the blindness started expanding to my remaining eye, about two yrs ago. It’s stressful to know what’s gonna happen, but at least I have time to become prepared.
      After this accident happened I began hearing everybody’s stories of eye injuries. It’s MORE common than I had assumed 🥺

      @@judy-9999 Your story makes me feel sad. Although you may not feel comfortable to do this, please consider making a video on your story, with photo's if possible. Think of how many injuries would be avoided & eyesights saved if you did. Many best wishes to you for your life ahead. Keep safe x

    Nail clippers! Thank you! All my pairs of nice jewelry wire cutters couldn't handle those really strong steel needles without wrecking the sharp blades and deforming the needle eyes, so I was going to have to buy something better. Then I decided to look up how other people made their own tools and viola! You gave me a simple, no cost solution as I have at least six pairs of various size pinch nail clippers in my bathrooms! My wallet and I thank you! Thanks for the quick demo also. I plan on using a non-water soluble craft glue inside the doll heads using those long wooden Q-Tips like the ones I use in hospital to apply ointments, other. A regular Q-tip is fine for Barbie doll heads. A sponge applicator type paint brush can be used also, for large doll heads. The glue you use must be thick and permanent or it will seep through the head pores and make the hair sticky, and wreck all your hard work. 😊

    Good information. Just so you know the "loop" on the sewing needle is called the "eye".
    You thread the eye of the needle 🪡. In your case you cut through the eye of the needle.
    The Exacto knife trick is an easy way to save money and time. They can be purchased at the dollar store for cheap. They are called "Craft Knife" because Exacto is a brand name and costs more.

    I've been breaking needles left and right! your needle is way bigger than what I'm using, won't the big needle rip their plug holes?

    • @Creeptique
      @Creeptique  7 років тому +14

      Plug holes might rip on older dolls, because their rubber or vinyl heads might be more fragile or brittle. For newer dolls, I have ripped one or two, but the overall look is great and they turn out looking fine. It's totally up to you. I just prefer the larger needles so that I can use more hair in each plug.
      That is a really good point though, and the answer is yes, this can rip holes and I would probably use a smaller needle for an older or more valuable doll.
      I hope this helps! Thanks for your comment! :)

      brandy bushway
      I’ve been recently re-rooting an old doll and a few of her hair
      Plugs ripped due to three reasons.
      1. I was using a big needle (which they kept breaking too)
      2. I was also taking to much hair
      3. It, as I mentioned was an old doll
      So I changed my needle to a smaller Size (and it has prevented
      Breakage) and took less hair. And now Everything is working
      Perfectly.

I am trying to re-root a kimi toys 1/6 scale action figure head, which is made of a much harder plastic than barbie heads and has much smaller holes, so I need a small rooting tool and with this I can use whatever size needles I like and I can just replace them if they break!

      I have never tried that method of rerooting, though I've heard about people doing that. I just get a little impatient and so I tried a bunch of things until I found a way that saves time but still looks great. When I make my reroot video, I'll show you how to use a little bit of hot glue inside of the head after your finished rerooting. That way, you don't have to tie any knots and the hair is held in place firmly. I do customize lots of dolls, I just haven't made any videos about it yet lol
      I'm pretty good at giving them new faces, but I don't like sewing clothes for dolls (even though I can do it pretty well) so I usually use glue to hold the fabric together and save time.
      It is is possible to use your hot glue gun to make clothing that is still removable :)

    • @Creeptique
      @Creeptique  8 років тому +1

      ***** With the hot glue you do have to go around when you're finished and whisk away any glue strands, but it's been a pretty neat process for the most part. I've considered getting a sewing machine, but I just don't have the room to have extra equipment right now. I'm starting to make the reroot video on Friday, if things go as planned, and I'll hopefully get it posted over the weekend. A lot of people have trouble painting the small faces - I have some tools and little tricks that might help, so when I have lots of time, I'll make a video about that, too. :)

      I am just starting to plan my first reroot. I plan to do a few yarn reroots first to get used to the process. I was wondering about using a quilting tool for rerooting. Would the rerooting look as nice using a quilting tool. I realize to would make the process much faster but I wonder if the finished product would turn out the sane way. Also, would there be groups of hair instead of an even reroot. Thanks.

    • @Creeptique

      I'm going to have to try using a quilting tool. I've never done it that way, so I don't know. My thought is that it might be too big, but I am really not sure. I wish I knew so that I could give better advice! :)

      Just noticed others saying quilting tool. I'll have to look that up, see if I have one in my boxes of sewing supplies. I inherited lots of unique items from my mother when she passed away, and I'm sure she had most every tool invented, as she sewed anything and everything, extremely talented. I never used a quilting tool for any quilts I made for my babies, self, years ago, just used sewing machine and hand stitching. I've used those tiny yarn pull tools, for when a thread on your crocheted or knit sweater needs to be pulled back through to reverse side of sweater so it doesn't show, but that's like a rug hook, which closes as you pull, pretty sure you don't mean that.

    Genius!!! I saw a knock off craft knife at dollar tree last time i was there. Going to pick it up so that i can use the handle full time.

    Thanks! I looked at the tool and realized it looked like a broken needle. I knew some ingenious person had figured out how to make one! Great video!

      Thanks, I was really discouraged when someone with more subscribers than me copied my reroot tool video...😢 and then my camera stopped working! It's okay though, I had to figure out how to make my videos better quality anyway. 😅 Please check back soon, as I have started again and I'll be adding more tutorials, restorations and ASMR toy unboxing videos within the next week. 👍 Thanks so much for the kind words, it means a lot and encourages me to keep trying my best!! 😁

    Oh my goodness that was super easy I don't know why I didn't think of that cuz I love to sew. I wish I had found your video a month ago before I bought the hair rooting tool for 14 bucks off of Amazon
