Do colleges and employers consider both performance and practical to be equal to each other? Or is practical valued more because it contains more components + the examinations had to be done live?
Hi, they should be treated equally as ABRSM emphasised the two qualifications are equivalent. During the pandemic, some candidates can only opt for performance grade due to lockdown restrictions. From my understanding, colleges usually require audition and entry test upon admission. Graded exam certificates would be a supporting document that you can submit, but ultimately it comes down to the audition and certain academic requirements (such as A level result etc). Regarding employment, the requirement would depend on the employer on case to case basis. Commonly, a minimum of college degree in relevant field. Graded exam certificates would be an added bonus. For freelance tutoring, so far in Malaysia where we are based, both practical and performance grades are accepted equally.
