The part starting with "Does anyone wish that I were alive" and ending with "It's impossible for anyone to say and feel" just impaled me in the heart
I think it's cos Miku genuinely sounds like she's in tears whilst she's singing
Oh, I understand the last frames now... for those like me who didn't get it at first this is what I thought: Each member of the circus was normal at one time, but got lured in by the flier like Meiko did. When they visited the circus they got lured in even more and were captured by the chairman and were turned into the hardly-human-creatures they are now. And now, Meiko became trapped as well and is trying to gather more members like Rin and Len were in the beggining.
I like to think that those frames are simply a hypothetical of if the children were born the same as everyone else, how their lives would be different. If the children weren’t disabled they wouldn’t be trapped in the circus. I don’t think the song is just a surface level story about a circus, I think it truly represents how society outcasts and treats people with disabilities
Correct, and luka will later follow; the song circus monster is a spin-off for this
This song is so sad. It reminds me of all the children trapped in human trafficking who just want to be free. It hurts so bad to know they are stuck in such a painful situation. These kinds of things are happening right now in 2013 and we need to work together to try and stop them.
Now, it's 10 years later.
It saddens me that in ten years we've made more scapegoats for child abuse than progress in fixing... anything. I can't think of a single political figure who has said "think of the children" and actually meant it. :/
@@cutieDogyssweet0038 and now, it's 11 years ago. It's pretty fast
何年経っても鳥肌が立つ曲
the imagery, tune of the song and lyrics of this video make the song really powerfull.
i just love the "drop by to the dark woods" part at the end...really mysterious, sometimes i just wish that vocaloid songs could be fully animated xD
The story behind this is really sad. During the Edo period of Japan, there were several people who needed money because of a war going on. People would kidnap children and purposely make them deformed for people's entertainment. They would do things like melt their faces with acid, cut up body parts and reattach them and sometimes the owners of the circus would rape the children to entertain. So the story is Miku was raped, Len and Rin became the result of them cutting up body parts, Kaito I'm guessing was forced to eat body parts and Meiko possibly has her face deformed by acid (the flowers representing deformity)
jfc that's horrible
Kaitos brain was replaced by a dogs brain
LittleMissMusic$tar ಠ_ಠ ......
Yeah...
LittleMissMusic$tar im not scared by it but its still horrible good god... * ~ *
A very creepy song, and actually very sad too. This has got to be my favorite vocaloid song.

Vocaloid songs are all non-professional. It's rare that someone releases a CD.
But if you want more of this composer's work, search "machigerita" :)
This song makes me shiver, and I stare out at the forest behind my house, I seem to see the circus lights flickering in the distance.
Maybe I shall join them...
BRO????
You good
...😨
Jesus christ bro are you still there
ah yes
the beginning of my dark descent into the weaboo phase
The chairman is a fanmade character. The white haired one, Haku, was made for songs were the person doesn't tune the program right and so she's called the "drunkard" fan character. The other, the side-pony tailed blonde woman is also a fan character. The Hanging Clown I do believe is yet another character named Teto which was released by the company who made vocaloids as a "joke" product. If that helps any, they aren't -actual- vocaloids but they are fake vocaloids.
Haku Neru and Teto eh?
@@HauntedByTorao 14 year old comment my man. this info is outdated as hell.
Also, the chairman isn’t human
I've heard the song many times before, but you really can't appreciate the mood of the song without this video. The art is enchantingly beautiful.
I love this song so much, it's so sad yet so awesome. ;; The sad thing is it's based off a true story about what people use to do in circuses years ago. The terrible fate these children had to suffer...it's just so horrible. -cries forever-
this is honestly beautiful. the PV is impressive, character designs wonderful, story perfect for theorizing and such, i could go on. i’m glad i found this song. it’s so sad, yet so beautiful, i want to join them.
notice how rin doesn't have any flowers on her face? and then she's the only one who actually says that the circus is fun? it's because she's behaving herself so that she doesn't get hurt like miku or len
The reason why she’s acting like that is just a front. She too wants to be free.
and this is based on a true story. oh god
wait wHAT
omg it is?? what's the story?!
oh nvm i found it XD sorry
i dont know the story by heart but
Mingyuyuyu telllllll usssssssssssssss
the artstyle in this video is so nice…
..i want it.
I wanna eat it 🙂
この歳になっても全て理解できないのが最高
Omg... I heard this a while back from my friend's iPod, then yesterday I remembered Alice of Human Sacrifice - and now I'm watching this. I feel so sick and...... weird. I don't know why, but I'm starting to love Vocaloids. And I don't even know any Japanese.
Incredible song, anyway. And the fact that this is based on actual events :(
.....this is the best vocaloid song ive seen in a long time.........maybe best ever. fanatastic video and such a powerful song in my opinion. gave me shivers....LOVE IT!!!!!!
Don't listen to the older comments, this song is NOT based on reality. The story told in this song is FICTIONAL. Edo Japan was known for being an incredibly peaceful era with a flourishing economy. There were some acrobatic circus groups in the North called "karuwazashi", but they looked nothing like Western freak shows. Entertainment was mainly a farmer balancing on a 20ft tall pole. Bad things happened in history like how disabled people were and are still treated. But there is ZERO evidence of children being kidnapped and tortured to be freakshow acts during the Edo period. And one more thing, this is song is the 2nd song of a FICTIONAL vocaloid series by horror Vocaloid producer Machigerita-P. There are 5 songs total with some album exclusives. Also, Widespread Knowledge of Late Night Madness is not part of this series. Learn to research things and gon't believe every youtube comment section you read on the internet kiddos.
"I WANT TO DIE" "I WANT TO DIE"
"CANT SOMEONE GET ME OUT OF HERE PLEASE"
"IM AFRIAD MY DEAR THATS IMPOSSIBLE"
" I CANT HELP BUT FEEL SOMEONE SAID THAT TO ME ONCE..."
those are the correct lyrics to the end
and it makes much sense too because meiko is shown saying that to her at 3:00
and it makes much sense too
3:00 that is not meiko. It’s the cat entity in human form.
This song's meaning makes me so sad. I adore the tune, though. I feel so bad for them all. Thank you for posting! ^^
The staticy sound actually sounds REALLY good with the song! 8DDD
I'm so incredibly obsessed with this song. Thank you so much for uploading it. 83
"likes to eat things out cold"..huh.when connected to kaito, does that means ice cream?and who's the "Deformed Diva"?
im late but i think the deformed diva was miku and the two people stitched together were len and rin
I love this song~ the sad story~ artwork, sounds, and the lyrics are EPIC!
I think I can interpret this story:
The dark woods circus is a strange circus found in a forest outside of the city. It was built by the tall humanoid cat-like entity known as the ringmaster (or chairman). He lures kids to his circus where he captures them, deforms them, and forces them to perform there. Flowers will grow on their bodies if they try to escape or defy his orders, which can worsen their suffering. The first of his victims are vocaloids miku, Len, rin, kaito, haku, neru, and Toto. Miku became a deformed diva, with her legs replaced with that of a goat’s, Len, and rin are fused together, kaito becomes a savage cannibal, haku and neru become tall performers, and toto becomes a clown who later hangs herself as she couldn’t handle her suffering. That woman in the red dress may look like meiko, but it’s not. That’s the ringmaster assuming the form of a human. Len and rin are also tasked with passing out flyers to lure other kids to the circus. Meiko receives a flyer from them and is lured there, where she discovers its dark secret. The ringmaster captures her, but he doesn’t deform her. He instead just brainwashes her and tasks her with Len and rin’s job of passing out flyers.
If you want my advice (I’m just saying this for fun): No matter how tempting it is, stay away from that circus!
This video is simply amazing. No other word for it. And the music goes so well :O
Gave me chills...I think the people who visit this circus are taken and deformed, right? At the end, it showed Len and Rin as "normal" and wandering into the circus and then a flash of them as one person with two heads. Also, the girl at the beginning suddenly gets transformed at the end D: So sad and scary...
I’d say brainwashed, not transformed
Stuff like this did actually happen. ......a long time ago.
Vocaloid actually have some of the scariest songs that makes your skin crawl, some are sad, like this one...
超ステキ!
かわゆい!
This song is very dark, but enchanting because of it.
This was my first Vocaloid song......ahh memories
Am i seriously the one who likes the part when Kaito-kun sings?
+Mabel “Shooting Star” Pines i love that part!
_IKR?!_
totally
>kaito-kun

+the meme lady True
You know, I've always been afraid of circuses. This is why.
But I love the song. The song itself is.....wonderful for scaring everyone else with manical laughter at the end. :D
Omg this makes me so sad
sinitaiyo sinitaiyo
And the part where Rin is singing about it's so fun so fun is so creepy
I LOVE IT
Rin may sound like she’s enjoying herself, but that doesn’t mean she’s happy. She’s only saying that so to avoid punishment.
The beginning is all rin/len, and the part where Miku's segment in the video is actually her singing :)
I'm utterly speechless about this song.
It's very hard to describe what this makes me feel.
It's so incredibly beautiful that I just can't seem to get too many words out.
So I guess it would be too beautiful.
i love vocaloid lyrcis they always makes you want to know the story behind it lol.
I hate when someone goes just enjoy it, y'know, it's a complicated saga of songs for a reason, so we get an enjoyable story, learn some lessons, and think about the characters presented to us. Artist spend many hours putting in a lot of work to make these things for us to interpret, and you just wanna shut it out and blankly listen.
You know, you don't HAVE to care about the story. Just ignore it. I do that many times with songs, even in saga's I enjoy. If it bugs you that much, just avoid the comments section...
I usually listen to music while doing something (puzzles, gaming, etc.) I'm not gonna stop in the middle of a boss fight to wonder "man I wonder what dissolve my eyes mean" and then write an entire essay.
THE BEGINNING MUSIC TO THIS SOUNDS JUST LIKE THE ENDING MUSIC OF "Wide knowledge of the late, madness" O.O
the weirdness factor gets it a 10/10 and a fav
i keep hearing this song when im asleep....... and i cant stop listening to it.....HELP
To those who think this is scary, please watch Masa - P's songs,
Good day.
Agreed
Gamer Girl honestly this is just me but what makes masa-p songs scary is very different than what makes this scary. they’re two super different kinds of horror and this to me is still more disturbing than any of masa’s songs
lmao that’s what they get for literally forgetting about me in most of the songs that they apparently all sing, or for killing me in some songs.
"With wide knowlage of the late madness"
The asylem where the peple staying there become circus attractions
I listen to the music dancing though my ears
all the lonely misunderstood beings....
i am hypnotized by it's sound
it's hurts to watch yet this liquid in my eyes keeps wetting my shirt
some people just don't understand how music can make you feel
3:40 Why the fuck is Rin built like that
This is so beautifuly dark, I cant not love any of it, I can watch it over and over and over again.
I love this-
this...this is just depressing
I so sad! T.T But- I did see some MikuxLen in there! :D
Every time I listen to this song, shivers are sent up my arms.
@adsweaty that's true, my original translation was wrong. Thanks for pointing it out.
am i the only one who thinks this is related to “alice of human sacrifice”
more related to wide knowledge of the late madness
This has become my absolute favorite vocaloid song.
Such a beautiful melody
Heart wrenching lyrics that send chills down your spine
I don't know if i'll ever stop watching this
(i probably will...eventually LOL)
This Song Is Very Dark, But Lovely Too.
You Know?
Honestly, I don't like Kaito's voice
I'm going to get so much hate, but his voice just doesn't sound natural.
Miku's, Len's and Rin's sound like possibly existing voices
+RAZ0RSHARP I agree actually
most of the comments are just people talking about the song as if it was a real thing, its vocaloid it doesn't have a meaning
Some Vocaloid songs are based on real life events. The dark woods circus is a creepy pasta. It unknown if it's a mist or not.
You should watch wysteria..
+Karma The murderer I agree Wysteria is very creepy and slightly disturbing. It's based off of real events of a child rapist murder and cannable(?)

I love this song ~
This video has the most gorgeous and emotional art I've seen. Love it. :D ~
Why did I see this since I was more young- (I loved vocaloid and utaloid at that time lmao)
I like these types of songs
i haven't listened to this in forever and i actually can't believe i haven't listened to this in forever. ;-;
"Does anyone wish that I were alive, so undesirable I am in this body?"
"Rotten fruit, to dissolve my eyes..."
I think it means how you much infact see what is going on inside the circus as if you do it will no longer seem all that much fun.
first song thats EVER made me cry. new favorite vocaloid song
I don't know very much about it, but as far as I know, there really was a circus like this
this is showing how they ended up there in the first place... they found flyers, and went to the circus, where they were captured and turned into freaks. ^_^
"ooh, the deformity!" O.O
damn, this song is older then me----
You did an alright translation!
This video is beautiful. I just love it.
I 've always thought the flowers were the places where their skin was rotten, but acid makes more sense
I feel the exact same way. :0 I've been trying to do some deep research about this, and asking people where they got their sources from! and I am currently reading through ALL (from the very first comment!!) to see if it is just some story that they came up with over time, and assumed it was true because it made sense, or if they actually have some reliable sources. I normally wouldn't obsess over it this much, but I listen to this song EVERY DAY!! I just have to find out the truth behind it! xD
I watched this to gain inspiration for some scary monsters but now I'm just sad.
This is awesome. Amazing artwork - it matches the song perfectly xD The only thing that bugs me is that some of the subtitles go by so fast that I can't read them lol. But other than that, this is incredible.
@DisturbingDounut I'm really glad to see that i'm not the only one that thought that.
me who watches it in 2021:... MAN is old
I love this song and the artwork in this reminds me of my favorite comic series 'Nightmare & Fairytales'.
VOCALOID: teaching you tragic Japanese history since 2004
now just the flowers
There's a download link in the description :)
1:47 he hit puberty!!
LMAOO
1. Yes, this is based on real events, I think it was during the Edo-Period in Japan.
And 2. I think the flowers symbolize the acid that the circus director threw into their face if they didn't do what they should do.
As time wore on, many more children were lured to the Dark Woods Circus
A mysterious wagon stops in the market place. A young girl is handing out papers. She looks up and smileswith flowers covering her eye
Luka and eight Utau are among those children
"Their shaking tongues...."
you left out "shaking", but other than that, your correct
(i was magically able to pause at the right milli-sec)
THE RIDE NEVER ENDS
For those who do not know this is a continuation from Wide knowledge of the late, madnessAlso another great vocaloid song by mike
@QueenRendonThe1st Yhey are a whole series of this song. But well, this song is about a circus that kidnap children (or get them in some other way) and deform them and/or makes them to freaks. Then they show up them at the circus and people laugh at them.
This song is based on a true story. Well, it's based on many. There were certain places around the world (mainly Japan and Korea) that had places where children were kidnapped, raped, and mutilated into...something that can't be described as human. It is true.
And this is why I don't leave the house.
omg this really happened!?!? D= i never even KNEW about this!! it actually makes want to cry D_=
@EmoMichie
At the end the little girl is passing out flyers, she looks up and her eyes are red -she was turned into one of them, but she stays behind to tell others of the circus.
The circus is actually still in the forest
omg.......i have no words.....this is amazing......macabre but sensible at the same time...
love the drawings :D
