Oh, I understand the last frames now... for those like me who didn't get it at first this is what I thought: Each member of the circus was normal at one time, but got lured in by the flier like Meiko did. When they visited the circus they got lured in even more and were captured by the chairman and were turned into the hardly-human-creatures they are now. And now, Meiko became trapped as well and is trying to gather more members like Rin and Len were in the beggining.
I like to think that those frames are simply a hypothetical of if the children were born the same as everyone else, how their lives would be different. If the children weren’t disabled they wouldn’t be trapped in the circus. I don’t think the song is just a surface level story about a circus, I think it truly represents how society outcasts and treats people with disabilities
This song is so sad. It reminds me of all the children trapped in human trafficking who just want to be free. It hurts so bad to know they are stuck in such a painful situation. These kinds of things are happening right now in 2013 and we need to work together to try and stop them.
It saddens me that in ten years we've made more scapegoats for child abuse than progress in fixing... anything. I can't think of a single political figure who has said "think of the children" and actually meant it. :/
The story behind this is really sad. During the Edo period of Japan, there were several people who needed money because of a war going on. People would kidnap children and purposely make them deformed for people's entertainment. They would do things like melt their faces with acid, cut up body parts and reattach them and sometimes the owners of the circus would rape the children to entertain. So the story is Miku was raped, Len and Rin became the result of them cutting up body parts, Kaito I'm guessing was forced to eat body parts and Meiko possibly has her face deformed by acid (the flowers representing deformity)
the imagery, tune of the song and lyrics of this video make the song really powerfull. i just love the "drop by to the dark woods" part at the end...really mysterious, sometimes i just wish that vocaloid songs could be fully animated xD
This song makes me shiver, and I stare out at the forest behind my house, I seem to see the circus lights flickering in the distance. Maybe I shall join them...
The chairman is a fanmade character. The white haired one, Haku, was made for songs were the person doesn't tune the program right and so she's called the "drunkard" fan character. The other, the side-pony tailed blonde woman is also a fan character. The Hanging Clown I do believe is yet another character named Teto which was released by the company who made vocaloids as a "joke" product. If that helps any, they aren't -actual- vocaloids but they are fake vocaloids.
Don't listen to the older comments, this song is NOT based on reality. The story told in this song is FICTIONAL. Edo Japan was known for being an incredibly peaceful era with a flourishing economy. There were some acrobatic circus groups in the North called "karuwazashi", but they looked nothing like Western freak shows. Entertainment was mainly a farmer balancing on a 20ft tall pole. Bad things happened in history like how disabled people were and are still treated. But there is ZERO evidence of children being kidnapped and tortured to be freakshow acts during the Edo period. And one more thing, this is song is the 2nd song of a FICTIONAL vocaloid series by horror Vocaloid producer Machigerita-P. There are 5 songs total with some album exclusives. Also, Widespread Knowledge of Late Night Madness is not part of this series. Learn to research things and gon't believe every youtube comment section you read on the internet kiddos.
I love this song so much, it's so sad yet so awesome. ;; The sad thing is it's based off a true story about what people use to do in circuses years ago. The terrible fate these children had to suffer...it's just so horrible. -cries forever-
Omg... I heard this a while back from my friend's iPod, then yesterday I remembered Alice of Human Sacrifice - and now I'm watching this. I feel so sick and...... weird. I don't know why, but I'm starting to love Vocaloids. And I don't even know any Japanese. Incredible song, anyway. And the fact that this is based on actual events :(
notice how rin doesn't have any flowers on her face? and then she's the only one who actually says that the circus is fun? it's because she's behaving herself so that she doesn't get hurt like miku or len
"I WANT TO DIE" "I WANT TO DIE" "CANT SOMEONE GET ME OUT OF HERE PLEASE" "IM AFRIAD MY DEAR THATS IMPOSSIBLE" " I CANT HELP BUT FEEL SOMEONE SAID THAT TO ME ONCE..." those are the correct lyrics to the end and it makes much sense too because meiko is shown saying that to her at 3:00 and it makes much sense too
.....this is the best vocaloid song ive seen in a long time.........maybe best ever. fanatastic video and such a powerful song in my opinion. gave me shivers....LOVE IT!!!!!!
Gave me chills...I think the people who visit this circus are taken and deformed, right? At the end, it showed Len and Rin as "normal" and wandering into the circus and then a flash of them as one person with two heads. Also, the girl at the beginning suddenly gets transformed at the end D: So sad and scary...
I think I can interpret this story: The dark woods circus is a strange circus found in a forest outside of the city. It was built by the tall humanoid cat-like entity known as the ringmaster (or chairman). He lures kids to his circus where he captures them, deforms them, and forces them to perform there. Flowers will grow on their bodies if they try to escape or defy his orders, which can worsen their suffering. The first of his victims are vocaloids miku, Len, rin, kaito, haku, neru, and Toto. Miku became a deformed diva, with her legs replaced with that of a goat’s, Len, and rin are fused together, kaito becomes a savage cannibal, haku and neru become tall performers, and toto becomes a clown who later hangs herself as she couldn’t handle her suffering. That woman in the red dress may look like meiko, but it’s not. That’s the ringmaster assuming the form of a human. Len and rin are also tasked with passing out flyers to lure other kids to the circus. Meiko receives a flyer from them and is lured there, where she discovers its dark secret. The ringmaster captures her, but he doesn’t deform her. He instead just brainwashes her and tasks her with Len and rin’s job of passing out flyers. If you want my advice (I’m just saying this for fun): No matter how tempting it is, stay away from that circus!
My god, I recall when I was consumed by this song. I am not a man of religion, but I lie prostate with prayer that the infatuation will not reach me again. It will not, for I have evolved.
You know, I've always been afraid of circuses. This is why. But I love the song. The song itself is.....wonderful for scaring everyone else with manical laughter at the end. :D

Vocaloid songs are all non-professional. It's rare that someone releases a CD.
