Excellent video, which nicely illustrates Wood's ingenious method of layering different architectural styles to create an aesthetically beautiful experience. An art which seems absent in so much contemporary architecture. Very enjoyable and informative. Next time I'm in Bath I shall have your video in mind. Thank you!

      Thank you Malcolm!
Yes Mr Wood was incredibly talented and thankfully he was able to create his vision.
Yes, you are right, nothing like this at all is built. The emphasis is always on function rather than style or originality.
The work skills of the stonemasons is very much on show here.
      Cheers,
      Paul

This video didn’t disappoint! I knew( as SouthWest Sundays said) that this would be well researched & scripted. I am ignorant re column designations so thanks for explaining the three involved. I was amazed that the frieze had lasted so well in all weathers! It is interesting that the circus& crescent show Masonic influences. I enjoyed the Costume Museum in Bath but think it’s shut at the moment- so much to see & do there but equally that brings in hordes of visitors & that means crowds so not good in that respect. Thank you for going and for such an interesting visit.

      Thank you Diana!
Glad you enjoyed it - I certainly enjoyed my day in Bath.
It is a really lovely city. I have been to the Costume Museum and the Jane Austen Experience, both of which are excellent. I do however miss the Carriage Museum and the Geology Museum (it was in Queen's Square) both of which are sadly no more, but I think some of the carriages moved to North Devon (Arlington Court (NT)).
It is good getting dry days in January, especially with some sun too and I prefer this time of year to the summer.
      Take care,
      Paul

I really enjoyed that Paul! Clearly a lot of research went into that and you told the story really well. Beautiful photography too.

      Thanks so much Louise!
Yes, I have always been captivated by the architecture of The Circus - the detailing on it is incredible. Been wanting to make this video for a while, and sorting the research and the script took a while, as you mention.
I am not really a City person, but I really do love Bath though.
      Thanks again!
      Paul

Hello Paul - greetings from Poland
What a brilliant video. Thank you so much for explaining all about John Wood the Elder and the legacies he has left us with the magnificent Circus in Bath and ajoining streets. Your wonderful photographic skills certainly played a big part in showing us the gorgeous buildings and the different styles in which they were built. I think the weather helped too. Clear blue skies and brilliant sunshine brought the best out of what we were looking at.

Sorry for the delay - I have been away in Cornwall for the weekend.
Thanks for your kind words about my photography. Very kind of you.
      Glad you enjoyed it.

Really interesting vidro Paul. As Bath is only 15 minutes away from us we visit there a lot but there was loads of info you gave us about Bath that we had no clue about. We were amazed at the key shape looking down on The Circus & Queens Square. Pretty amazing stuff. This was a well researched video. I'm also amazed how you manage to remember all this information as you are speaking to the camera. 😊😊

Thank you Martin - always great to hear from you. Sorry for the delay in replying - I have been filming in Cornwall over the weekend.
Thanks so much for you kind words. I do write my own script and 'learn my lines' using similar techniques that actors use.
      Take care,
      Paul

Yes, this is by far my favourite part of Bath, even though I am not usually a City person.

Thank you, Paul, for this fascinating insight into Bath's architecture. I knew the name John Wood but wasn't familiar with the story behind what has become one of Bath's landmarks. I never knew that it was Wood who surveyed Stonehenge. However, I did know of this earlier survey without the connection to Bath.

Great to hear from you, and thanks for your kind words.
I still need to cover Stanton Drew and Stonehenge as well as the other many stone circles in Cornwall! Never enough time!
I did enjoy my day in Bath.
      Take care,
      Paul

Hi Paul, Great story, very well told as always.Looked a very cold day but dry.
The design is oustanding and the appearance is just perfect. You have to marvel at the work of the mason too. I always wonder how they managed to make those columns so perfectly formed and smooth and then transport them from the quarry to the building site.
    Have a great weekend

Yes, I had a good weekend in Cornwall with my daughter making a couple of new videos in the sunshine there.
That's a good point about the columns - if I find an answer, maybe I could make a video about that!
Hope you had a good weekend too and hope you have a great week!
      Take care,
      Paul

Yes, The Circus is well worth seeking out and it is very close to The Royal Crescent - Brook St. links the two. I am always in awe of it.
      Cheers!

Bath is such a handsome city, thanks for giving us such a great architectural tour. I hadn't realised that Bath's "look" was far from being an accident, but the creation of an obviously talented & determined John Wood the elder.

Yes, it certainly is a rather lovely city.
I have always admired The Circus and doing the photography for this enabled me to look at it closer and see bits of it I had not noticed before.
      Thanks so much,
      Take care,
      Paul

Nice video again. John Wood the Elder and younger also built the buildings around the Bath Springs.
Also you didnt mention that i was born in bath. 😂😂😂

      Thanks Shaun!
Yes, both John's did loads of buildings in and around Bath.
I was just so struck by how he had a vision to single handedly turn around his local city. Imagine wanting to do that now! Incredible, really.
Great place to have been born in!
      Cheers,
      Paul
