Good Job ED...........I found Linux Mint15 to be very dependable...............solid!! with the Toughbook Cf-29 and Linux Mint Debian was just excellent on the CF-51 model.....
I also found the ultimate way to tell the Stupid Virus idiots from annoying me was to put the Mint15 on the USB Stick with the use of the ISO image which allowed me to never need another hard-drive to get my stuff done.
My laptop system got dropped a few times on the world internet and all I had to do was unplug the Laptop put the USB Stick in again and away it went..............every time!!
Linux Mint16 is tremendously useful with those 2 Accessory tools the formatter and the write tools to make the USB Stick.......so simple........Ubuntu was a bloated dissapointment and some people seemed to have observed the same......
I'm glad Mint is working out for you. Mint and Ubuntu are both based on Debian, but you are right that Ubuntu is more bloated.
This is the guy from the Penny Stocks place in Wolf of Wallstreet
The guy with the mustache, bad haircut and unfashionable clothes? Looking like this is all part of the Linux experience!
No, I meant the good looking boss guy with the sweater vest.
Hey, thanks!
I just bought a refurbished Toughbook that was junk so now I gotta refurbish it myself, I know nothing about computers so I stumbled upon these guys, their somewhat awkwardness and real person feel makes them a lot more likable and endearing than the normal tech videos with super shiny and over produced vaneers. I like how they feel more like Doc Browns lab from Back to the Future and not like Bill Gates or a freaking Ted Talk.
We like him too! I might just have to tell him so I can see if I can get him to blush.
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 32bit works like a charm, with no errors. The touchscreen still needs the calibration config, but it is otherwise a smooth installation.
Thank you very much for answering maybe you're right the touch screen may is failing I try to change another question where I download drivers for any panasonic thanks
1. good video, 2. unique appearance, 3. similar name, 4. found a new linux distro, 5. like + subscription ... enjoy
6. Thanks!
Dell Latitude E6400 works well with Linux Mint16
looking at getting a cf-29. there looks to be something similar to a telescopic antenna on the top, could you tell me what it is??
That is some legacy parts that works with RF signals. It is not relevant today.
i have a refurbished toughbook Cf30 Mk1 with Windows 10 pro, it has the space for a stylus thats missing but its not touch screen, isnt it supposed to be? is it deactivated somehow? i love how easy you can disassemble this thing, my HP is a piece of shit, like a newer car they make it difficult on purpose. just bought a new antenna from yall, fast service, thanks alot, you just deservingly earned a new customer.
I don’t have a hard drive in the one I ordered so if I made a boot drive and just plug in a boot drive would it work?
You would need to make sure that you set the boot order in the bios to the port you will be booting to.
To install Ubuntu 14.01 you have to force PAE, Physical Address Extension, the processor has PAE but will not report it to the installer.
hi, with my CF-29, i do the same things but it doesn't boot on my DVD!?? it restarts automatically windows seven, any suggestions for me, please ?? thanks a lot
That's strange. One of our techs should be able to help you out. Use this form to have one of them respond. bit.ly/319UMWX
How install Fedorra/Redhat in Panasonic Toughbook CF-31. Installation is completing but its not booting up. It was a Windows 10 Preloaded toughbook I formatted all the partiotion and zero filled the HDD, but its showing windows 10 loader partition after Installed tha Linux. Please help me If U can......
I don't have any experience with Fedora or Red Hat, so I'm not sure if I can help. If you go into the BIOS and look at the boot order, do you see anything unusual there?
I just bought 8 of these at a police auction. No hard drive on any of them. I wonder if modern sata will work on them?
Hi Robert, so CF-29's come with IDE connectors. It is possible to get IDE to SATA adapters, but we don't recommend it. Any added performance will be throttled by the outdated IDE connector. Sorry I don't have better news for you.
@@Bobjohnson along with those 29s I got 2 28s in the same lot. paid $16 for each laptop. Thinking I may try to create a raspberry pi laptop out of a couple of the cases and then make pelican type cases out of the rest of them.
Reinstalled XP stopped working touchscreen. I can not find the driver CF-29LTQ. Help please.
This is the link to the Panasonic driver download page: na.panasonic.com/us/support/computers-tablets-handhelds-driver-downloads
I know this is an older video, hopefully someone can reply, I will be doing this with my mk4 CF 29 tonight, do I have to do it with a CD or can I install it Via USB drive?
i don’t see why a usb wouldn’t work, hope your install went welll
Can I install it from a USB stick?
Mr bOOM yes, works exactly the same
Is it possible to get Elementary 0.4 working on a CF-30? As far as I can tell, it's x86_64 arch only. When I boot the image from USB, it complains about not supporting i686.
Huh... Looks like you are correct, Elementary 0.4 ("Loki") does not support 32-bit systems. That's a bummer. It looks like you can still get the last version ("Freya") on Sourceforge, though: sourceforge.net/projects/elementaryos/
the project you linked has no files. I too am having problems finding a 32 bit version.
I could have sworn there were files there the other day... If you find the 32-bit version, please post it here. I'll do the same.
It's currently available at linux.softpedia.com/get/System/Operating-Systems/Linux-Distributions/Elementary-OS-67717.shtml, but given how it disappeared from sourceforge, I wouldn't count on it staying there.
I should note that, because Elementary OS is based on Ubuntu, this tutorial should apply to anything in the Ubuntu family with very little adjustment (Lubuntu, Xubuntu or possibly Ubuntu Mate would be good, lightweight options).
Debian 9 still supports it, just be aware its a little less user friendly
Late but would kali Linux work well on a CF-29?
We have never tried.
Will this work with the MKII as well?
CF-29 MKII? That's a pretty old machine, and Elementary OS decided to discontinue the 32-bit version. So... not really. You can still try a lightweight flavor of Ubuntu like Lubuntu or Xubuntu and the instructions in the video should apply.
mouse is jumping help!
Couple questions:
What is the model number of your Toughbook?
Are you running Elementary OS? If not, what operating system are you running?
Does your Toughbook have a built-in GPS module?
I have a mk1 c 19 with 3g currently no operating system installed due to a jumping mouse
This might be a case for our technicians. You can reach them at tech_support@bobjohnson.com. If you think it is a hardware issue, you might want to send it in for repair. You can find our repair form at www.bobjohnson.com/repairs-service
Hopeless sound and very bad explanation just as a non-professional would explain it. Man, open your mouth and do not muffle and also look after your audio levels. I rate this video 1 out of 10.
All right. Thanks for the feedback. I'll try to do better next time.
