Brilliant video, best I’ve seen in a long time. Filmed from a MK2 DVT which I’ve never seen inside of until now. The sounds of the brakes coming on ( grinding noise) just takes me back to the childhood days and I can smell the hot metal and oil from the brakes too. Great to see a few 309s and 305s as well as the 312s. The 321s could only be a year old!
For a non-train guy, there are three aspects of this footage that I find amazing. 1) That you were compelled to film such an ordinary experience; 2) That you labelled and kept all the video tapes until you converted to digital; 3) That you have captured a zeitgeist of yesteryear.
I have a confession to make. I did not video this, but a young trainee did. As he had also filmed me I asked for a copy. Of course, I edited myself out as I didn't want any offers from Hollywood. Once being asked if I wanted to join the Freemasons was bad enough.
NSE everywhere....how I remember it as a kid. Still a few 309s knocking about too, and the 321s were still pretty new and shiny at that point. 30 whole years ago, Christ! Almost everything has changed since then, Stratford area the most. Virtually unrecogniseable now. Better...? Hard to say. :-/
The class 90s for the freight sector were delivered in 1989/90 so they were definitely around in 1990 on all the electrified freight routes, though still quite new.
The cameraman unfortunately missed filming Stratford, which was a pity, as it would have been interesting to see the old, much changed Stratford station.

Thank you.
Great video. Nice not to see masses of graffiti along the sides of the track, unlike today.

I like this
Are you Camilla the train conductor by any chance?
Unusual to see a 90 there in that era
Sometimes they were borrowed from Freightliner at Ipswich when some of the 86s were out of service.
Better? Certainly not now. British Rail was the good old days.

Class 90’s could be seen on the WCML in 1987with increased frequency as new locos go delivered
Amazing video but welcome to 2020 and 2021 next year
Where was Stratford

Look at 22.44 it was there!
@@steffanmaximum Stratford was a nothing shack back then. Even semi fasts turned their noses up at stopping there.
@@adamw2911 Yes, it's unrecognisable to what it is today.
