We never like to reveal too much of a film's meaning, as in a lot of cases the films are meant to be open to interpretation. However, we will say some of you have the same understanding of the ending as we do. Our interpretation below, with *spoilers*.
The Thin Man, who promised Anna he would take care of her (like Grace did), has taken over Grace's spirit. Anna let this happen by giving the Thin Man possession of Grace's bear from the real world. She allowed this to happen as she began to see her sister was manipulating her powers to see and speak to the dead to earn money, rather than actually protecting Anna. And in that moment, Anna believed the Thin Man may actually be able to help her. Yet whether Anna's actions work in her favor or not, well, that's for another film.

I like the fact that Marybeth is an older child in this. Usually, it's younger kids who end up possessed or harmed by some unseen force but the actress looks like she's in her teens. Nice change of pace.

It seems more like the demon saved Anna from an abusive sister. Without the music it can be percieved as a hero flick.
That's an interesting take. One that we could be see being the intention, once you get to the end of the film.

That moment when I forget it's a short film and it comes to an end after 15 minutes 😩 I can watch this for hours
This totally reminded me of the Fox sisters. Two sisters who were celebrities during the spirtualist movement (which is where I am guessing this film took place) They were sought after by many high profile people for seances, including the President Abraham Lincoln at the time. He and his wife were grief-stricken after losing one of their sons and reached out to the fox sisters. Mary Todd Lincoln was practically on the brink of losing her mind. Then it eventually came out that they were frauds. Both could rotate their ankles and other joints to imitate communicating with the dead. This AMAZING film makes me want a full film or another film following this storyline. Maybe, in this story, they aren't complete frauds (Like in the film.) But as we all know who know horror...a seance is a literal dance with death. In fact, worse things than death can happen when improperly meddling with the supernatural. Love the film. And thank you Alter for bringing it to us!
This is by far one of my favorite Alter films. This deserves to be turned into a full movie.

Unsure what that’s supposed to mean. People these days like to use words from science in totally different ways than what they mean. You’re right in saying energy is never lost as it only changes form like pushing a ball from building the potential is very high then as it falls it turns into kinetic. There is no convincing or good evidence that I’ve ever seen for an incorporeal form.
I almost rented an apartment once, until the guy told me the site was where an old slave house used to be and that some kid hung himself across the street....I was out of there so fast!

When I was a child, it wasn’t the thin man who was in my room at night. It was a lady. The lady dressed in a full length collared dress, all one color, red. The sleeves were full length to her wrists. It was a dress you would expect a woman to wear in the late 1800’s, one that wraps tightly up top. I call the dress red, but if red could mix with a deep black and yet retain shadowed brightness, that would be the best way I could describe it. She had long hair that was wrapped and tucked behind her head. And some sort of veil obscured the clarity of her face. She wanted me to see her, without truly seeing her. She was a younger woman, in her early 20’s I’d guess.
Many things happened in my room when I was alone, in that back corner basement. I was just a kid, still a little boy. Things had been getting worse over a few weeks of time, and I had a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach each night I walked the basement stairs down, all the way to that back room. The click of my door latch as I closed it would cause me to scurry fast the length of my room immediately diving in bed. My bed was under one of those old basement windows, small and dusty. I hid under my covers from the instant I climbed in like this girl in the movie. Of course this movie is the reason I am describing this single event.
One very early morning I woke up with a sudden fright and sat up in bed suddenly frozen. I had gone from a deep sleep to instantly being wide eyed and feeling that inner flush of fear starting up in my throat and flushing down through my chest. The woman was standing at the foot of my bed staring directly at me. This was real. This was the morning I saw her like one sees another person. It is a moment in time that will never leave and still causes a grown man fear. Terror is a better word. This isn’t a fictional account, however, and I have no way of ever removing the memories of certain events. This movie made me relive this and many other occurrences that a kid shouldn’t have to endure. As a man, in my mid 40’s and sitting in a lighted room, I covered my eyes when the girl pulled the covers over her head in the movie.
I immediately reached for my lamp to bring any light, as it was in between light and dark in my room. The very moment I pressed that black button on the lamp to end this horrible moment, the light bulb in my lamp blew. And the dread at what was at the foot of my bed, maybe closer now, was at the limit a child can manage physically and mentally. I inhaled deeply, shaking, and slowly turned my head where I expected to see her still standing.
This was just one of many events that eventually found me on the floor of my parents room, shivering and crying. I believe I was 7 or 8 when this all started. The events and circumstances of this lady extend into some significantly frightening stories. I use the word ‘story’, but it was what happened to me in my childhood. The events were as real as my memories regarding family vacations. In fact, these memories are the most vivid I have from being a kid.
This horrific lady, she was evil, didn’t only select me in my family. I read journal entries many years later from my mother describing a woman, dressed in an old fashioned style dress, all in red, bothering her over the course of a weeks time from a period in her life earlier than occurred with me.
I never knew my mom had these stories, nor did she ever describe them to me or any other child. But, there were her journal entries detailing her introduction to this evil woman that I was reading through much later in life, in my early 20’s then.
It should have shocked me reading what occurred, but it really made more sense given the communication she described. I didn’t need any validation that what I had endured was real, it actually brought me sorrow that my mom had to go through moments of terror as I had.

Is she still bothering you (the lady in red), if not, how did you guys get rid of her ? And I'm so sorry for what you've gone through, you and your mother.

Plot: So, the demon wants to be friend and now will always protect her in the form of sister. The demon has entered into the sister's body. Unlike, her sister who cares about the money, the demon will be there to protect her in upcoming psychic adventures.
Also, the demon wanted the main character's sister in the beginning.
The movie was actually terrifying and how the light colour change traveling to another realm was nice. Really really liked this movie.
@@learnerktm the western perception of demons isn't like other cultures. Where the majority of christianity understands them to be fallen angels, there are other beliefs that not all demons are bad. They just are earth bound.

Though I can't speak for other Satanists believes on this topic and as ex Christian who read the bible a lot and compared it to demonology studies Fallen Angels and Demons are two different things. Fallen Angels are Angels who abandoned God and Demons are Lucifer's children.

Excellent work, anchored by strong and committed performances. One thing, especially, which impresses me is how really simple and practical some of your very effective choices are here; instead of trying to rely on CG/other-VFX tricks, much is accomplished here with simple changes of lighting and other atmospherics ... and in a lot of ways, that strikes me as much more effective as an approach than a bunch of VFX. Sometimes the simpler and cleaner approaches are the stronger approaches, and that -- in my eye -- is one of this film's strengths.

Wow, this film was pretty damn brilliant. A mix of “Ouija: Origin of Evil” and “Insidious”, with a dash of “Nightmare on Elm Street”, but all with its own twist. Really, really damn good and very well made all around. It felt like the opening scene to a full length film and left me wanting to see the rest of the story. And it gave me a few ideas for my own short horror film I’m planning on making. Can’t wait to watch this one again.
How on earth would this be a lefty film? There is no traces of forced black lesbian characters or mentions of inequality or any bs like that.

Beautifully atmospherically, brilliantly acted, with superb sound design and rivetting tension that had me pulling back from the screen on more than a few occasions. This definitely remains my favourite UA-cam channel for horror shorts of superior make.

Rewatched it several times. The devilish man always wanted to be in Grace so he could be at Anna's side? Even as the sisters are kids, he floats above them- he wants Anna to let him inside Grace, did I get that right??
By giving him her sister's Teddybear later on, he went inside Grace? So he killed and held Marry Beth hostage to get Anna to him, yes, she said that. But- why did Anna let the devil man be in her sister?? Why did she allow that to happen? She gave him the bear, he wanted that for 20 years..... Hä??
I think it has to do with the bitterness Anna held toward Grace. The argument between them was pretty indicative; Grace told Anna that if she stopped she wouldn’t have money OR family- Grace intended to abandon Anna if she wasn’t being useful or making them money/reputation.
So Anna snapped and let the thin man have Grace, I guess.
@@Mangascribbler Immediately after Anna and Grace's argument, when Anna moved near the stairs and saw the doll, the creature or thin man had asked for her sister's doll 14:56 "give me your sister's pet doll" @ Mietzmetz may be was right though might have overlooked that scene.
@@Mangascribbler you may also be right but the way Anna was avoiding to look at Grace and I don't think she had a guilty look but sort of emotional feeling towards her sister that she had to do it in that circumstance. Grace gave that resentful bitter glare clasping her hand
I think Anna thinks that her sister might be the source of her problems. (seeing supernatural things) Hence, this time she tries to take the help of demon itself to fight a more powerful demon. (her sister)

Here's my thoughts...
Since Grace and Anna were little, the demon tries to get a deal with Anna to let him take Grace, but Anna refuses which is good. We all know that the devil/demons are tricksters, take note. See Grace's teddy bear? 😶 It's always with Grace ever since they were little, when Grace was little the teddy bear is so clean and given so much love from Grace, it also sleeps with her in her bed and until when she's an adult her teddy bear is still with her because the teddy bear represents Grace's heart. Just like a body, the body doesn't live without a heart, that's how much she needs her teddy bear in her life. Because it's her heart. Back then her heart is so pure and so full of love just like a child's heart, that's why her teddy bear is so clean, full of love and care from Grace before because it represents her heart back then. Fast forward to the present where they are already adults and doing their jobs as a spirit-communicator (I forgot what they were called 😅 but let's stick with this word for now) Notice Grace's teddy bear now. It's full of dust and dirt, it even been torn up on the arms, which means that somewhere along the way from child to an adult Grace's heart became torn, full of sins/evil, her heart isn't pure anymore it even doesn't have love and care. But why? 🤔 Well it's because when she grew up she was tempted by GREED, she even prefer money over against Anna and she only uses Anna for money. Sad ☹. So when they were trying to communicate to Marybeth, Anna didn't actually spoke to Marybeth except it's the devil/demon from her past, the demon who wanna take control of Grace's body but the demon desguises as Marybeth (remember devils/demons are tricksters) Since never in the video that the true Marybeth reveals before them, esspecially to Anna, it means that Marybeth has already move on to the other side/heaven. When Anna thought it's Marybeth she followed her to a room. It was her and Grace's room before back when they were little kids. The demon tries to remind Anna about their deal, the deal that she refusses years ago, the demon had it's grudge to this deal years ago up to this date so, inoder for Anna to accept the deal he will forcefully do it by scaring her and always tell her that he will protect her from her sister at the same time, that's why when Anna tries to get out of the room the demons desguises himself into little Grace that said "I will protect you" tho at the same time scare Anna with a creepy little Grace's face. When Anna was so scared that she covered her self in the blankets (which is always not a great way to escape from a demon 🤦♀️) The words of what the demon said to her about the bargain protecting her in exchage to her sister's heart (the teddy bear) came to her head and Anna is sick from the horrors the from the demon that she gave in and she realises that her sister as no love towards her at all, she handed him Grace's heart, which is bad. So when the demon posseses Grace's heart, it means he can posses Grace's body as well. When she came back to the real world she lied to her clients about Marybeth and when she said "Right, Grace?" Grace is already gone but the one that is inside Grace's body is the demon and he's happy because now that he posseses Grace's body and also got his contract signed by Grace (the accepted deal), it was Anna that that is his main mission to have (I think he's in love with Anna, notice that after Anna said "Right, Grace?" He reaches out to hold Anna's hand, which it never happens if the real Grace would do 😳), because now he can pretend that he's Anna's 'loving' sister on Earth and he will be always by her side, he is even more happy on the inside because Anna accept the deal, and we all know that whenever a person has signed a contract with the devil/demon they will go straight to HELL, which is what I think that anna didn't notice what she have done for herself, all that's up in her head is that her sister will be gone for good. She even smiled back to the devil/demon.
Well at least when she die/they both die from their physical bodies, they can live happily ever after in HELL.🤔👍😅
I've watched this video many times yesterday 🤩 and I forgot to write my insights about it 😅 which is why I posted this now, and I hope you all won't be confused why the demon is always asking Anna to give him the Grace's teddy bear, what he really means is "Give me Grace's heart".

When the sister said “I don’t see a man, but I believe you” it made me tear up. You can’t imagine the rejection when you tell someone and they mock you. I’ve seen spirits from a very young age. Nobody believes me. Never have never will. So seeing this makes me happy.

The premise is a great font of ideas, a point to buildt a lot of horror movies: two siblings dealing with the supernatural since their childhood, who became businesswomen of this kind of stuff. Maybe we already saw something like this before, but, this specific kind of sibling relationship, is a good idea for a future project. Good luck.

Awesome! Great cinematic quality (acting, cameras) that reminded me a bit of Insidious and Annabelle.
But mostly I loved the way you depicted the difference in spirits of the dead vs demons and other entities: the research was accurate, based more on meaning and actual seances, than relying only on stupid jumpscares. Bravo!
