Thanks for the engagement 🙏🏻 I think its good to compare the two because Vietnam and China are two of the largest markets.

@rebornabroad. There are higher quality teaching jobs in Thailand, but in a sense you're right, as the competition is stiff. For those interested, here are the 3 categories of higher quality jobs in Thailand - a) international schools; b) International Colleges (English medium) within well known universities such as Mahidol U.; c) tenure track university positions (not English Center gigs). The international k to 12 jobs usually require a credential. The tenure track jobs usually require a PhD plus recent publications and the International College jobs require at least a Master's in a relevant field but not necessarily publications.

Yes, of course, there are some good jobs, but again, if you are competing for positions, the employer has the power. In Vietnam, the teacher has far more power

I've taught in China and Thailand on the ESL circuit. I was originally a professor of Religion and Philosophy in the US but I got tired of all the Woke rhetoric in Liberal Arts Academia so I left. I've never taught in Vietnam so I can't compare China to Vietnam, and I left China in 2020. Money isn't the most important thing to discuss: the quality of the Education is. In China we often had Chinese bosses who were woefully unqualified. Some couldn't even speak English yet the entire curriculum was in English. Thailand doesn't seem to be much better but foreigners have a bit more power in Thailand.

Thailand isn't great for teaching. Saturated market. After China, Vietnam is unquestionably the best for pay and respect for teachers.

true, but at the same time, there are many schools where the headmaster or principal speaks English quite well and follow the more wester style of teaching.

Taught in both China and Vietnam. Vietnam is waaaay more open and free. I felt like I was living in a bubble in China, very isolated from the outside world. Vietnam on the other hand is filled with international tourists, loads of English speakers in the big cities, apps in English, they welcome the outside world. And easy to get things like cheese, french bread, chocolates and other western items at reasonable prices. In China, it would cost 5 times as much for these western products and they were never as good, never as fresh. Viet young people also very internationalized, open. Very welcome to foreigners. Honestly, my quality of life quadrupled moving from China to Vietnam even tho my paycheck decreased. I can still live like a king on my Vietnam salary and no gutter oil here, cleaner air. Very happy with the move.

I have to agree even with the more money we always ended up in Vietnam. We generally recommend it for our clients as well.

During the last fews years ,China has kicked out several unqualified teachers out of the country, these people have now become China hater and have started to tell fake stories about China.

viet is more comfortable for westerner cause it used to be a colony of France. Their own culture are extremely invaded by westerners. I just feel sad for them.
U live like a king in Vietnam is your happy story but not for the most people in that country.Their are exploited by westerners or western country. None of the popular apps are theirs, they just use those apps and pay cyber taxes to the giant companies. And they are continuely turning into servants for those westerners who want to live like a noble or king and then be amused or laughed at.

What this guy is saying about Mao killing scientists and Xi Jinping Thought is completely nonsense. The book he's talking about is The Governance of China, which is a collection of speeches from Xi Jinping from the CPC National Congress, and is completely unrelated to Quotations from Chairman Mao (he also that the name of that book wrong). And they call it Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, not Communism. This guy got everything he said about Mao, Xi, and Socialism dead wrong. He is either completely misinformed, completely uninformed, or just straight up lying.

Before the conflict, Russia was emerging as an ESL market. It's probably going to be a while before that is revisited.
