    I have made my decision…note air 2, thanks Voja for your effort to make this in-depth review.

    Many thanks for your guide. Now I decided to buy Note 5. Stereo Speaker, Design (Formfactor), Quality of Display, Fingerprint sensor, etc. were the reasons for my decision.

    I have the original Note 5 with plastic screen and I love the writing feel. I believe the complaint some had was the screen had a noticeable, but slight dual bulge to the screen as delivered. From my experience, this never affected the reading or writing performance and, having used the device for nearly three months now, the bulge has gone as the material has settled. I don’t use the Boox case, but a non-magnetic OLAIKE case from Amazon, so this will have helped the flattening process.
    I also have a Boox Max Lumi and Nova3 Color and I much prefer the writing experience of the Note 5 as the slight flexing and texture give it a feel that's very close to writing on Vellum paper. If the screens on new devices are glass, then I would go for the cheaper Note Air as aside from the different form factor, they appear otherwise identical.

      Hi mike. Do you mind if i ask. . . I'm looking at used box products as a first product to use. I like my 10.5 tablet for at home so i know i would be quite happy reading on that size.
      But with the 7.8 nova range. I was wondering if in your experience it could be used as a mobile all rounder. For a diary, calender planner, leisure reader and study reader?
      All the best. Shaun ✌

    Great objective post Voja! Thank you; We should keep in mind that semiconductor chip shortage hits eInk tablets manufacturers too. That means:
    1) It's not the right time to buy those devices that could be downgraded a way or another internally. Some elements may be replaced by ersatz ones
    2) Some of the previous features may be modified (e.g. the plastic sheet) at the expense of quality
    I suspect those points explain at least the bad surprises you run across when comparing an air note with book note 5

    I actually prefer the Note 5 chin for the palm to rest at the bottom while writing. I kept the the Air 2 for the higher contrast screen and I like its write feel more.

    Thanks for the inciteful review! Thanks to this I was able to make my decision easily and now have the Air 2. I must say it is notably slippery/tracksion-less, but other than that it's great! Would you happen to have any recommended cases/folios/covers? From what I've seen the Boox ones are overpriced and not very high quality. On Amazon there is a "KuRoKo" cover for it which seems okay, though it does use an adhesive to keep the Air 2 in. I've also seen some "universal 9.7 - 10.2 inch" cases that hold it in with straps which some people seem to really like for the Air 2. Any suggestions?

    The Mobiscribe origin has an update claiming 33ms writing latency, so it'd be interesting to test that claim and update the position in your chart.
    My impression is that it feels faster.
    I'm wondering if the e-ink company has rolled out some tools to device makers to get bettter latency, or we're just seeing more device makers figuring out latency on their own.

    Great review Voja! It cleared up many questions I had about the Note Air 2 and Note 5 line. Sounds like Boox should maybe consider discontinuing the Note line and make the Note Air model the one and only premium 10.3 inch device 😁

    When i tried the note 5, the writing experience was more soft and sticky.
    But its true, it didnt felt as fast as note air2.
    I agree that the price doesnt justify note5.
    Question of which, i wonder if note air2 price is well justified. At the moment i feel they can put that price cuz not many devices are close to compete

    Thank you Voya, I have been trying to figure out if I should get the Air 2 or the 5 you review here. You have answered that question for me! I was leaning towards the 5 because it was supposed to be lighter and better battery. But apparently the battery is worse and with the glass instead of plastic, I bet it isn't lighter anymore either.

    all the review just said note 5 is a gabage compared with air2. but I don't think so at all.
    I need a smaller size electrical note. I already have a samsung tab s7 (11") and ipad pro (12.9"). then I want a smaller one like my handy notes. air2's width is too big for me. in addition, the flexible screen makes the pen writing like on the paper, not like clicking on the glass such as iPad. I don't want to hear any tick sound on the glass any more especially when I am in a quiet office or library. that's why I bought the note5.
    I just want to have a note taking tool in my daily job, even note 5 is not the best one, but it does the current best tool that I could find in 2022 early.
    1. can offline work and transfer data/doc via usb for job security request. I don't need to enable wifi for a very long time.
    2. proper bettery usage. without wifi or back light, the power usage is acceptable. I can recharge it around one time per week.
    3. finger print can unlock my note 5 instantly. the same, for job security request, password is always required and finger print can unlock it soon and then I can take note any time.
    4. can search the note content and title no matter typer writer or hand written context directly. I just need to remember some keywords that I left. It is my favorite.
    5. smaller size. I consider to buy a smaller one such as 7" or 8" just like my notes in my pocket, but seems not found yet. fine~ then I chosse 10" instead.
    6. E-ink product instead of a tablet for my eyes. For reading, I already have kindle oasis 3, paperwhite, boox leaf, so reading on the Note5 is not my option.
    there're still many good reasons to choose it. not that bad.

      Have you actually tried Note Air 2?

    • @cckcoffee
      @cckcoffee 2 роки тому +1

      @@MyDeepGuide yes. tried on the store before. the size is the key for me like I said in the comment. and the worst part of Air2 is the position of type-c. I always to buy covers for my tablet/ipad/kindle/boox leaf, etc,. The cover provides me a good grip of the devices. and how stupid that Air2 gives type-c in the holding & long side. It makes the cover impossible for this device.

      I prefer the Note 5 form factor than Air 2. But I wished the Note 5 had the Air 2 screen with more contrast. I returned the Note 5 but hopefully the Note 6 will incorporate the higher contrast screen.

    I want a 10" device and I'm on a budget, would the Note 5 Plus be worth it for 200€ secondhand? Or should I wait for an Air1 at that price range?

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  Рік тому

      Well, it's a very beautiful device and works well, but the engineering and design choices are strange for it, as it doesn't capitalize on the fact that it uses Carta Flexible screen, so you get both a glass panel on top and the inferior image quality of the Carta Flexible.
      Both are good devices, but Note Air 1 is better, in my opinion.

    Hello, first of all great work on your videos. I watched all of the The Big Boox Guide series as i got my Boox Note 5 today ;)
    I am wondering if you could help me or point me in the right direction? Is it possible to sync the actual notes (not books or pdfs, but the things that I create under "Notes") onto my Google Drive? I see they have pre implemented the Dropbox, OneNote and two other clouds but it does not synchronize with my GDrive. I added the Google account and also did the GSF thing. But it won't synchronize nothing in the notes section.

    Hi there! Question: Have Boox updated their Notes app yet to include links of any sort, say to navigate multiple pages easily with indexes/links of some sort? If not, does the Remarkable2 do this te?

    Great review. I have been waiting for an e writer that was more compatible with OneNote. I understand from your other videos that this is currently not possible with these type of screens. There is too much latency. I did hear however that the latency with OneNote was corrected or significantly improved on the new book 5. Can you comment on the OneNote functionality? Thanks

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  2 роки тому

      This is correct for all Boox devices that have the update 3.2. I have several videos about it, but you can check the Note Air 2 review and in the video description you will see the chapters and find the one that interests you.

    • @jbennion

      As he says, they have fixed this with a custom build of OneNote. But one thing I have noticed is that it does reduce latency if you trun off touch (so that only the pen registers input). OneNote is a lot easier to use when you do that. It's a little annoying when you want to move around with pan/zoom with your fingers, because you have to turn touch on again, move it, and then turn it off. But this makes it usable. Except for one thing: how do you see the ruled lines? The older build you could see the rule lines (if you turned those on). They are hard to read (and therefore hard for me to write straight) on the new build no matter how I fiddle with contrast/"color" settings. (I should add that I have the original Note Air, so this may be different on other devices.)

    Note 5 screen should continue working even with a glass crack because plastic backing would be intact. In Note Air2 the glass-backing can crack too and device screen would stop functioning . Am I right ?

    Just want to know what about IME's or input method editors for Chinese input say, why non-existence. ANDROID 11? How come cannot find these same input methods found in Samsung phones using Android 11?

    • @shaunkong62
      @shaunkong62 2 роки тому

      Unlike Samsung Android tablets or even an iPad the development this e- tablet platform is light years behind..Input methods are so obvious, just input of characters of various languages. This is not asking for some exotic inspiration or the Holy Spirit to annoint your tablet why so slow and not yet developed? And they want you to write longhand and type English letters, why not use a simple Android Samsung phone as a model, and anything you do in that phone, you can also do likewise in this tablet!!

    Can you make the test with frontlight off, blutetooth and wifi both off? I mean if you use the device for purely reading purpose, you are most likely to turn off the wifi as you don't often check your notification while reading and you want a distraction free reading experience.

    • @MyDeepGuide
      @MyDeepGuide  2 роки тому +2

      The test done ( I assume you mean battery test) was done with frontlight and bluetooth off, wifi on, so you have those figures and you can infer that with WiFi off it will be marginally longer battery life.

    So both new Boox devices are effectively duds that are dead in the water. What's happening @ boox? The Note 5 makes no sense compared to the Air 2 and the leaf is overpriced.
    With the introduction of the air they, imo, should've reconsidered the note line-up and maybe have made it an e-reader only and seriously slash the costs.

    • @Spentalei
      @Spentalei 2 роки тому +1

      @@tobefree3718 I'm curious why not? Boox has no e-readers in the >7" segment. Instead they have "e-note/e-reader" hybrids, but e-note tablets aren't perfect for e-reading and have compromises. The first two I can immediately come up with are simply price and an additional layer on the screen.

    • @katrinegadegaard1241
      @katrinegadegaard1241 2 роки тому +1

      Well it would make sense with a larger e-reader, but they should probably rename it then. Note without the ability to take notes would be slightly misleading 😂
