I was thinking the same thing Dominion…lol… Jordan you have a nervous tick, you spin the paddle on every shot… I’ll spin my paddle to reset in my hands or change my grip to fit a serve style… but you do it continuously…lol ..regardless it was a excellent training video to help players work on specific skills…good job sir!
Nervous, not in the scared sense , but nervous as in preparedness, preemptive, or anticipation... It's more a reactive reset..I see a lot of players do this, it's kinda a preshot ritual... Lol . I just thought it was funny that a few saw it like I did... Like I said we all do something,at least most for any sport.
Your videos are great! I recommend them to ALL my friends- I play indoor at Lifetime for the winter- playing with 3.0 - 3.5 is excruciating when you’re trying to work on a new skill. Thank you for all these great drilling ideas.
Great video format. Its nice to listen the voiceover while watching the drill being executed. Oh and thanks for reminding me how much WORK I have to do get to the next level... sigh. ;)
Jordan this was a good training video. I will definitely implement it in my routine. Could you make a video on how to do a half volley at the NVZ, transition and base line?
Hello Jordan, I recently bought the Selkirk Amped S2 paddle and used it to compete in a tournament and won first place in a men's doubles tournament and second place in the mixed doubles at a level of 3.0
After playing in a tournament all weekend, I found that there isn't much dinking in the 3 and 3.5 levels....usually the ball is popped up too high or there is an unforced error....what this tells me is that the most important part at that level is keeping the ball in play...your drills are great and keep them coming.. BTW I got a bronze and a gold in 2 out of the 3 events I entered in my first ever tourney ...wooohooo
@@BrionesPickleball I am not sure if it was the video or another one when you asked what we would like to see you post. Today I was back footed in a third shot and my opponent just dropped the ball in the kitchen. No way I could make it up there as my weight was backwards. When he told me that he did this shot because I had to back up to get that 3rd shot and threw my balance off, he saw this as the perfect time to hit a drop in the kitchen. That’s makes perfect sense but at my level (3.5) I hadn’t thought of that. I would like more this like this. Seems like a “no duh” but you don’t know what you don’t know .
@@BrionesPickleball and you do it so quickly... sometimes double spin. I'm hoping you don't mess up the position of your grip right before hitting the ball... would be my worry, since I have done it before. Great video 👍
Love the video Jordan. Am at a lower level but learning by focusing on how one should hold their handle. I would learn more from your skills if you didn't twirl the handle between shots. It's ok tho as I can focus on the other players.
Great drills! Is there a way to add 3 person drills to the description so we can find them through a search later? And very impressive how much you are using the 2 handed backhand now. Any specific drills/exercises you used to increase your skill/confidence?(or was itostly a ball machine and reps?)
I've noticed it for quite some time watching your videos and I've always wanted to ask. Has the paddle spin between shots ever gotten you in trouble? It seems like a bad habit, but a common one around the courts with a lot of players. Maybe it's not a big deal but I can imagine there are times when the ball is coming back faster than expected at the paddle spin makes reacting difficult.
Great question! I plan to do a video on this sometime! Lol. Out of 8 years of playing, I vividly remember my paddle spin affecting me about 5 or 6 times since I started. So in short, habits are only bad if they actually affect your game in a negative way. I would say my paddle spin is a not a factor.
I actually embrace it- It seems To be a way to manage anxiety or maybe anticipation and focus. Try it:) it works not constantly but particularly on receiving serve . For Me….
@@BrionesPickleball I've seen some calls against it saying it's a hinderance. 3.A.6, once it's been asked of the refs the refs warned right away that it's not a normal paddle action and will be called if further done. Watching your video it seemed pretty excessive (like all the time) and I've never seen anyone do it that much.
I seem to struggle with the reset shots due to balls being hit hard and low at my feet. Any times not only fast and low at me feet they are hit at my side.
Jordan, I am new to the game and really enjoying and learning from your video’s I’m playing with a borrowed paddle and looking to buy a new one. Far too many too choose from , but keep going back to Engage Encore Pro as it seems versatile and not breaking the bank. Probably will play more doubles to start. Can I get your opinion?
It depends what shot you’re talking about, I’ll have to do a video on this soon. But most times players hit the ball too high, they are swinging way too hard.
Hey Jordan, I'm a 3.5 and I'm considering a Selkirk paddle. I notice you use a Selkirk. What model would you consider suitable for my level. I play 6 times a week so I'd like something durable with a good sized sweet spot. Thanks, Rob
It’s really kind of depends on what you like. For hitting harder shots, power and spin, the power air is great. If you want a very soft paddle which is great for resets and the soft game, I love the 003. Currently I’m using the Halo XL which is a great in between and has great power spin and touch.
Jordan this was a very good training session. The more of these would be greatly appreciated. I really enjoy these drilling workouts.
Thanks Michael!
Wow, Jordan, you've again, outdone yourself! This is the best video yet (for my level)! Thank you so much for putting it together!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Assessment of your shot is very important! Give yourself space and step back when needed. Critical issues.
Thanks again Jordan

Definitely not nervous, but a habit for sure. If you do something that doesn’t affect the outcome of your game, then have at it.

Best drill video I have seen because of all the commentary explaining the strategy and goals.

I'm actually more impressed that you can flip the paddle around so much as you're playing lol
It’s a tough skill

I have to break that same habit of twirling my paddle. I sometimes do it after a return as I approach the NVZ.
There’s nothing wrong with spinning your paddle if it doesn’t affect your gameplay.
Hi Jordan, I'm curious to know why you spin your paddle around so much. Is there a reason, or is it just a habit you've developed?

Hi Jordan, great video. What’s the rule for when you rotate - is it simply when one of the two people miss their shots?
We just rotate or slide to our left when we miss. Or you can play to 7 or 11 points.
