- ( Re-uploaded with higher frame rates and quality )The infamous scene in Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth where Princess Jelanda was unknowingly given Ghoul Powder to permanently turn her into a Ghoul. The person who supplied the Ghoul Powder and arranged Jelanda's demise was Lombert, an Adviser for the King and Jelanda herself. Her soul became corrupt and her body was warped into that of a heartless and mindless demon.
This scene would have been much more meaningful if Valkyrie didn't recruit dead people. I would have preferred it that the dead stay dead and Jelanda's transformation happen at the end of the game after the player is allowed to get attached for her. The lack of character development and the way TriAce pulled the story in Valkyrie Profile just made Jelanda's transformation feel meaningless. - Ігри

They were frozen in fear and confused about what to do because they can't really harm the princess, but i kinda think that the devs could have at least made them take a more defensive stance in the animation instead of simply standing and staring

The way they animated this is absolutely horrifying. It's not like a werewolf where you turn inside first then outside, with your original form simply being modified and reshaped. They didn't want to make her face change drastically and scare even more who were playing, so they just covered her. She really transformed, and died due to that, because there's no antidote for Ghoul Powder, and if you're not compatible, you lose all your conciousness and humanity, just like Jelanda

This is a scene from Valkyrie profile. A necromancer sent the search party to chase after the Calvary containing princess jelanda, and they were on their way to villnore. Necromancer knew princess jelanda would be found unconscious, so he also sent a ‘medicine’ along with the search party. It was a ghoul powder. They used this medicine on princess jelanda, and she transform into ghoul, the scene you see here.
But it's weird. This scene, Badrach should be seen running away while Arngrim should be seen standing nearby lol

For those wondering this is from Valkyrie profile,the context is this:Jelanda is a princess who was kidnapped by a bunch of mercenaries to make her a slave of one rival kingdom,one of the mercenaries doesn't know about the kidnapping and just thinks is a weird package,he also was one of the mercenaries in service of the king from jelanda's kingdom,after the kidnapping is discovered during an inspection of the border patrols jelanda receives a "potion" to "help her recover",that potion turns her into a Ghoul (that thing of the video)and you end up killing her,then the mercenary founds out this was all planed by one of the counselors of the king,who was also a spy from the rival kingdom,the objective was to either have the princess as a hostage to make the king surrender or kill her and make the king lose his morale,the mercenary kills the councelor but then he is surrounded by the guards of the castle,when asked to surrender he commits suicide,oh and by the way that's the beginning of the game

Haven't played this for decades. Basically the context is:
The girl was a princess of a large kingdom was kidnapped by the royal counsellor, who was a spy for the enemy, then hid her inside the cargo then hired mercenaries to deliver her to the enemy kingdom so they can blackmail the princess' father using her. On the way to the enemy kingdom, the royal soldiers, who were also sent by the royal chancellor to avoid suspicion, intercepted the caravan. But the royal chancellor added a failsafe should the royal soldiers succeed in stopping the caravan, he gave the soldiers a concoction to treat the princess however that medicine was actually Ghoul Powder so it caused the princess to transform into a demon.
The demon killed the soldiers while the mercenaries ran away except for one. The mercenary who remained in the area fought the demon princess with the help of 2 gods who decided to aid him: a Valkyrie and the wife of the Nordic supreme god. They killed the young princess and the Valkyrie took her soul.
Afterwards, the mercenary went back to the castle to attack the royal chancellor but he revealed himself to be a sorcerer and the mercenary was subdued by magic. The Valkyrie (upon the princess' request) helped the mercenary break free from the spell and assisted him killing the chancellor/spy/sorcerer. The castle guards arrived to subdue the mercenary but the mercenary slaughtered them all except for his mentor, who was the father of his friend. Since he couldn't bring himself to kill his mentor and there was too much blood on his hands, the mercenary eventually committed suicide in front of the old guard.
Witnessing all the events, the Valkyrie took the mercenary's soul and made him an Einherjar (dead warriors recruited by Valkyries to be sent to Valhalla), although not an official one since he lacked the character and traits that the gods required him to go there. So he stuck around the Valkyrie's side. Basically he and later on, a powerful female mage who also wasn't qualified to be sent to Valhalla became the Valkyrie's bodyguards and were instrumental in saving the Valkyrie later in the story.
In the manga, the princess also stuck around with the Valkyrie due to her attachment to the mercenary (not romantic because of their age gap but they had history as the princess initially hated the mercenary for his barbaric attitude and disrespecting the king who was her father)
One problem with your lore explanation. Valkyrie aren't gods, but "messengers", or middle-men for worthy souls. It's a nit-pick I know but it's still technically wrong so I spoke up.
The "Nordic Supreme God", is named Odin. His wife's name is Freya, but he also was an adulterer and had lots of lovers.

Damn. Here I thought this was a generic early 2000s RPG that I missed out on, but you make it sound a Greek tragedy with Norse mythology sprinkled here and there.
@@bubbubberson3812 if I remember correctly, in this game, the Valkyries are considered as lesser goddesses if you fiddled around Lenneth's profile or stat screen. Yes, Valkyries in real Norse Mythology are not exactly goddesses despite their supernatural origin. But then, this game is loosely based on the original Norse mythology anyway and made so many liberal changes on it. They made up stuffs like Odin being a half elf or "Ragnarok" was merely an event where a disgruntled half Aesir-half Vanir deity (instead of half Jotunn) used the dragon orb to destroy the entire universe or a Valkyrie becoming the goddess of creation out of nowhere when her soul merged with a homunculus with elven genes that was initially created by a necromancer to satisfy his fetish.
I'm pretty sure that's someone's fetish.

I like how the other knight dudes are just standing there like idiots while one of their member gets strangled by a giant monster. Like, I get that there could be a "paralyzed by shock and horror" reaction, and that the helmets hide their faces, but we should still be able to tell from their body language that the scene affects them somehow. Instead, they just look like they're standing around idle.

I bet Lancelot, Chosen Undead, and Guts in Bersker armor could be beat this thing. I think the knights in this scene weren’t properly trained nor had effective armor. Just my opinion.
