Isaac Asimov, who died in 1992: “There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge'.”

I got the moderna shot and lo and behold i'm still alive. Works for me. I wear a mask anytime i go outside out of an abundance of caution. I don't live in fear. I live in practicality.
I was so sick I couldn't get out of bed for three days after my second Moderna shot. But I too am still alive !!!!! Yes, I wear a mask. My oncologist says it might not be a good idea for me to get the booster the State is pushing me to get. We are all different.
@Oscar Benigsen Do you know they said the same thing about small pox and measles? Decades later and everyone is still fine.. I think what those of you hesitant for that reason are missing, they only touch on this every now and then, is that this was 17yrs in the making.. They knew there was going to be a SARS COVI that would be, well, this.. They studied it and studied it. Cold is a, SARS, flu, so they already knew about it.. They had to wait for China to give them the genetic code and when they did, it took a year to come up with this vaccine.. I really hope that helps..
For those saying "I did my research and due diligence..." A post credited to Linda Gamble Spadaro, a licensed mental health counselor in Florida, sums this up quite well: "Please stop saying you researched it. You didn't research anything and it is highly probable you don't know how to do so. Did you compile a literature review and write abstracts on each article? Or better yet, did you collect a random sample of sources and perform independent probability statistics on the reported results? No? Did you at least take each article one by one and look into the source (that would be the author, publisher and funder), then critique the writing for logical fallacies, cognitive distortions and plain inaccuracies? Did you ask yourself why this source might publish these particular results? Did you follow the trail of references and apply the same source of scrutiny to them? No? Then you didn't....research anything. You read or watched a video, most likely with little or no objectivity. You came across something in your algorithm manipulated feed, something that jived with your implicit biases and served your confirmation bias, and subconsciously applied your emotional filters and called it proof."
and did you do this yourself? 🤫 your source: Trust me bro. just because the man in the white jacked told you so doesn’t mean its for your benefit its for his benefit. your hypocrisy is astounding.
@@covfefe1787 Did you do this yourself? Have you had the necessary training to do this for yourself? If you did this for yourself have you published your method and findings so that others who are qualified in the field can peer review your findings? The point that is being made is people throw around "Do your own research!" without having the slightest idea of what exactly that statement actually means or entails. Researching a subject is time consuming and is a pursuit the vast majority have neither the time nor training to do.
Very, very nice of you to share Linda's post. I saved this and I can't wait to apply this in the right setting, with a couple of "researchers" I used to respect.
That whole mask thing puzzled me in the beginning of the pandemic. I’m not an expert but I have over the years read about contagions and there is always an element of spreading via coughing and sneezing. I immediately bought masks for my family and warned them to wear them if shopping etc. I never imagined there would be violent behavior from anyone about it like we’ve seen, and I was appalled at Trump and his vanity over it.
@Oscar Benigsen The masks are there to keep fluids from the doctors and nurses from contaminating any open cavities the patient may have open. I’m not disagreeing with you on mask mandates, just might not want to word it quite like you did. I’ve worn masks to make others feel safer, too.
They needed to make sure there wasn't a run on masks for the health system, they saw it happening in other countries. I'm always so surprised Americans aren't more mad about being lied to like that in the beginning. P.s. otherwise Fauci is great and I love him.

There weren't breakthrough polio cases either and once the polio vaccine came out, the epedemic was over. Side note, Jonas Salk GAVE the formula away. Bill Gates MADE SURE that pharma's gonna get a big payday.
My wife and I just returned from Egypt and Turkey. While riding the public transit in Istanbul absolutely every single person had a mask on while riding the buses and the subways there. And they were packed with people, standing room only many times. While walking the streets of Istanbul, many different neighborhoods, many people wear masks outdoors.

@@stevenread5473 Thank you. I really worked a lot with teaching problem solving. I had a quote I said often that, "knowledge is of two kinds, either we know about a subject ourselves or we know where we can find information on it." I told them how you don't have to hold everything in your head as long as you know where you can find answers/solutions to problems you encounter. I didn't have any plumbing experience but knew where I could find information (Google & UA-cam) and I replaced my kitchen faucet. Sadly, the problems I saw over and over every year is where the kids had absolutely no idea how to even begin to find information. You could put them in front of Google but they wouldn't know what to do to start. We talk about how everyone is on the internet but I was surprised at how many families in my district (and it wasn't at all impoverished) did not have internet outside of their phones. I definitely agree with you about being able to pass a general logic course. Again, thanks for the comment, take care.
Facts are the PCR test which tests covid doesn't work. Quote the CDC and WHO who are switching it in December. Ain't that something for the vaccine believers.
@@walteryoung3056 Welp, studies so far aren't seeming to find any overarching detriment. Now a better question, what are the long term affects of Covid? We know something about that, too. And it's not as good of news.
@Oscar Benigsen Trump politicized the CDC. It's as simple as that. Really. It really IS as simple as that. You can go looking for monsters under the bed for the rest of your life, for all I care... but the fact is that Trump really put himself above God and Country and everyone else in the world. FACT... and he still is.
@Oscar Benigsen if you reject Pfizer because of a rap sheet, then I guess you didn't vote for Trump because of all the lawsuits against him and his organization.
@Oscar Benigsen Yes, Democrats are corrupt, but Republicans are _so much worse,_ and there is a World War II video which proves it. It's called *Hemp For Victory,* and it proves beyond a reasonable doubt that Nixon's war on drugs, escalated by Reagan and Bush Sr., is un-American, based on lies, and is the primary reason for police armed like soldiers. This film being hidden from the voters from 1945 to 1989 was the downfall of American "freedom." The Federal permit to grow Cannabis that is shown in the video reads, "Producer of Marihuana." *Hemp For Victory* was filmed in Kentucky, one of the most Conservative states in the nation, to actually save American freedom and democracy. Today, it is Democrats who are finally introducing legislation to end Cannabis prohibition and it is the Republicans who are blocking it from passing the Senate. Yes, every administration since World War II has lied to the American public about the "dangers" of Cannabis, but one party is actually trying to correct this decades-long mistake that has turned our police into soldiers against us. In 1990, the same year that *Hemp For Victory* was officially released, President George HW Bush ordered US Army soldiers to join with police and Federal agents in a series of anti-Cannabis drug raids in northern California called Operation Green Sweep. This was the US Army being unconstitutionally used for domestic law enforcement, raiding American homes over the same "Marihuana" plant that was legalized for the US Army to prevent foreign Fascist soldiers from invading the United States and raiding American homes. George HW Bush's life was saved in 1944 when his bomber was shot down over the Pacific and he used a parachute made from legal "Marihuana." George W. Bush was later born in 1946. That is two US Presidents whose lives were directly saved by the legalization of Cannabis Sativa, and both of those Presidents escalated the war on drugs to attack Americans over Cannabis Sativa.
@Cho Xiden You should have told Barack Obama, John Lewis and Elijah Cummings that they were in the racist party. They should have been waving Confederate flags to let everyone know that they're not racist. You know, logic.

I'm a retired Nurse. I work in the first 2 years of the pandemic and saw a lot of people die. I now am at the point where I think if you don't want to protect yourself or other people I will protect myself and your business what happens to you. I feel for the people working in healthcare taking care of this kind of patients. I know they are tired.
I was in hospital in 2020 for non-covid related sickness. I heard from the nurses how angry they were at the people who didn't want to just do social distancing and masks, while we waited for the vaccines. They were exhausted then, I can't imagine them not being numb today. One nurse said to me, in bitter frustration, "we should triage by whether they believed in the virus and did all the preventative things, or are deniers. The deniers we should just send home."
@@xtreamchance - That should definitely be the case with the vaccine. If they didn't want to take it (not talking about immune compromised that can't), they should be a lower priority. At this point, there are prevention that work and they chose otherwise.
So true, in 2021 any high school droup out with Facebook, IG or Twitter thinks his opinion is as relevant as a group of people with 30+ of experience and more degrees than we could count. That's so so weird.
I've met quite a few people with college degrees, Master's degrees, and even a couple Ph.Ds who are just as self-righteous and ignorant of their ego and emotional bias that they sound like dropouts when they speak. Science and education teaches us that just because a group of college-educated people say something is true doesn't mean we should accept their ideas without having skepticism for it. After all, energy companies use scientists with high degrees to fudge their impact on the environment and to literally lie to the people of this world. Drug companies used doctors to fudge numbers in tests to sell bad medicine, or medicine they knew would be addictive and harmful.
@@kevinbransky1817 Very true. There is also a tone in the report (which does not help at all to furthering the vaccination case "White Republican Males" vs "Black Americans" - one side is characterised by political affiliation the other side is not (although we all know they lean democratic) and then there is the focus on gender and not on the other side. These "reports" do not actually help the vaccination case they just make it worse. But then you have to think this is been done not to speak to the "other side" but rather to their own core support i.e. "you people are right, and those people over there well they are the enemy" Society is getting worse by the day.
When this pandemic started the country I am in we started wearing mask in March 2020. We are still wearing them. I have not had a cold in two years and no Covid (I am fully vaccinated and so is my wife).
For those who complain that the vaccines were rushed, am I the only person who remembers over the last few decades when people who had family members with severe diseases- they complained that the FDA took far too long to approve treatments so they traveled to Europe or South America for treatments that were approved more rapidly in those countries but would take too long in the USA? Does anyone else recall stories like that? In addition, since SARS in 2003, another corona variety virus, we have spent about 17 years studying, researching, and building the groundwork for this vaccine so in a large sense it wasn't exactly rushed or at least not as some would say. Some treatment takes too long, people aren't happy, a treatment comes out quickly and (some) people aren't happy.

@Linda C. There were so many worldwide vaccines to control thru history and as I know from having heard about them and getting vaccines against them, the majority of them were very happy to get them. And. Some of those diseases are irradiated now because of the Public Health efforts to vaccinate such large percentages of all ages of people.

As my comment says, however; for those that believe the vaccine works, no explanation is required. For those that don't believe it works, no explanation will convince them otherwise. Which is ridiculous when you think it through. I imagine you fit somewhere nicely on the right, given your comment. So lets use you as an example. Imagine how arrogant a person needs to be in order to call out the "other side" for doing something and then excuse or ignore "their side" for doing the exact same thing. Whether you like it or not, facts still exist. Information can be verified and researched. My example with the "liberal media" is a perfect one. Imagine how out of touch someone needs to be in order to rail against the "mainstream media" and then consume Fox News like it's air. "I tell you, I don't trust that mainstream media. Not one bit! No sir, not me. That's why I never miss Tucker Carlson on Fox News. Heck, if I can't watch it live I'll DVR it. I won't watch that mainstream media though!" 🤦🏽♂️ I've literally had that conversation with several people. Both sides want their biases confirmed and instead of attempting to learn something new or challenging thier views, if something goes against their biases then it can't be trusted, it's fake, or it's wrong. Please don't sit on here and act like this only happens with liberals and doesn't happen on "your side" just as much. I digress.

@Thomas Paine that is kind of a non sequitur attack. 218prototype was making no actual claims about research or anything related to actual research. Only that the antivaxxers claiming they did their research most likely didn't and have never actually done research. You don't have to be a researcher to understand that. Just mildly aware. Heck, most of the ones I have talked to don't understand the difference between an element and a chemical compound. For example, Some antivaxxer moron told me vaccines were poisonous because they have mercury in them. But they are not smart enough to know that the chemical they used to prevent bacterial contamination of the vaccines have mercury in it the same way table salt has sodium and chlorine in it. Yes mercury by itself is toxic and sodium metal would explode if you put it in your mouth. But you put those metals in chemical compound, they can be harmless or even vital to your existence. So I'd say that when they claimed they "did their research", the fact they don't understand middle school level chemistry proves they are unlikely to have actually done any research. You don't need an paper in a science journal to tell you how stupid they are.

I did have the same thinking..."yeah, I'll wait a year until I got vaccinated". I remember joking about it with my family. But then, by March 2021, the earliest dates for the vaccine available for the general public in our country, we all got our first shot. Because, by then, we realized that our Mom, whose got dementia and pretty much bed ridden, wouldn't be eligible for the vaccine. She needs the herd immunity from those around her. So we got the vaccine to protect ourselves and our love ones.

For what it's worth: Vaccination rate is 80% and rising here (Flanders, Belgium). Covid is hardly in the news anymore, didn't expect anything else, moving on, nothing to see here.
@Oscar Benigsen I'm talking about Flanders, who has a much better vaccination rate than the French and German speaking part of Belgium (still many anti-vaxxers there, but many are changing their mind because you need a vaccination proof for about everything + they see numbers going down). If you watch the numbers, our neighbors France and Netherlands are indeed catching up (a bit late?), Germany not so much. We have about the flattest curve of all of them, not sure if that's a good thing but anyways... The upswing you're talking about was happening in every country in Europe but nothing compared to the US. It's correct if you say we have to watch out we don't do the same as Israel and US, thinking we are out of the woods and peaking again. Let's see in a few months, I'll have my third shot (upgrade to Bill Gates Windows 11). 🙄 In fact it doesn't really matters, if the majority of the world population doesn't gets a vaccine it's going to be a ten years or more pandemic. It happened in education and parenting in the last couple decades (at least). “Your opinion matters.” I distinctly remember lessons in my education about voicing our opinions. The phrase, “no stupid questions” comes to mind as well. During voting motivational speeches, “your voice matters” is a motto a lot of campaigners use. Listen to that year after year, generation after generation, and you’ll find a bunch of people who think their opinion matters just as much as facts. My entire comment is an example of this phenomenon. There’s probably an educated term for it, something like the Dunning-Kruger effect, but not quite.

A post credited to Linda Gamble Spadaro, a licensed mental health counselor in Florida, sums this up quite well:
"Please stop saying you researched it.

This film being hidden from the voters from 1945 to 1989 was the downfall of American "freedom." The Federal permit to grow Cannabis that is shown in the video reads, "Producer of Marihuana."
*Hemp For Victory* was filmed in Kentucky, one of the most Conservative states in the nation, to actually save American freedom and democracy.

Both sides want their biases confirmed and instead of attempting to learn something new or challenging thier views, if something goes against their biases then it can't be trusted, it's fake, or it's wrong.

For example, Some antivaxxer moron told me vaccines were poisonous because they have mercury in them. But they are not smart enough to know that the chemical they used to prevent bacterial contamination of the vaccines have mercury in it the same way table salt has sodium and chlorine in it. There needs to be an era of renaissance for the mind and soul. You cannot blame the education system, for it is only for the basics. Education is a lifelong endeavor that one must exercise to search out the facts and be able to leave behind conjecture and belief, without evidence of Fact to those theories humans find easier to follow than the work it takes to find the facts.

@Oscar Benigsen Interesting opinion. We really do all have two things in common.
Well, "no stupid questions" is legit - it presumes that you will experience learning and wisdom from discovering the answer to that stupid question. (Also I use the "stupid question" framing when I'm questioning basic assumptions that might no longer hold in the topic under discussion...)
But yeah, the "your voice matters" trope does lend itself to the promotion of ignorant opinion over well-established fact.
