    Sorry for the late response Lonnie.
    The heater works fine and so does the defrost.
    The easiest way to explain it that I can think of is... you can no longer bring air from outside through the a/c. So, that means that your heater cant mix outside air into the heat. It also means that you cannot use outside air to defrost the windshield. You can still use defrost, it just has be defrosted using your a/c or heat. That is the way I do it anyway.
    I haven't missed anything and im still going strong

    Thanks, this video helped give me an idea on what to look for when fixing the A/C in a Dodge Durango.
    The A/C wasn't blowing right, you could hear the air blowing somewhere, but it wasn't coming out the vents. Ended up taking the whole dashboard off, but realizing what the problem could have most likely been, I decided to go ahead and take the inside fan out. I pushed my hand through where the fan sucked air between the outside/inside and found that the Recirculate blend door had broken off its hinge and was on top of the fan.. so that's why air wasn't coming to the vents.
    I used your idea on screwing the recirculate blend door in, so air was only coming through one path, but decided to use the outside air intake path.
    So for future reference, only need to take the glove compartment out and remove the fan from the bottom to gain access to that recirculate blend door again, if I want to change it to only use inside air. (p.s. the inside fan was on the passenger side, to not confuse anyone).

    Best video with the clearest explanation possible, my 2003 Ram Truck had the same issue, except I found the door on the fan motor itself. It had broken off and fallen down, luckily still whole so I'll just do what you did and screw it back in place. And also as a bonus you even gave me an idea how to redo the stereo system aswell! Thanks for such a helpful video! God bless. 👍🏻

    Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. Your video allowed us to make the repair ourselves and can now enjoy AC here in South Florida again! We couldn't afford to pay someone to do this and were able to learn from your experience and take a few shortcuts too. Myfriend had it done in about 30 minutes! Thank you again!

    Appreciate the video, turns out to be the issue with my 2003 Durango 5.9. I have taken mine in for Svc at several dealers over the last 3 years to get it to cool properly, everything in the system except the evaporator, has been replaced twice!!! And it turns out to be a simple actuator door not closing all the way. Almost 18f temp difference at idle, geesh. Dodge perhaps should have recalled and fixed these?! Something so simple, oh well, Thanks again for the video!

    Very cool! I appreciate real life "Do it Yer'self" videos.
    The blend door on my '06 Lone Star had broken and fallen on to the fan. One of the door ends had broken where, it appears, a pin holds it in place. I was able to remove the fan and caress the door out through the fan's opening in one whole piece. I plan to leave it this way. Although, I will admit, I live in southern CA, so our weather is quite mild. If the climate were more "seasonal", a proper repair may have been in order.

  • @JP-kk5vw
    @JP-kk5vw 7 років тому +7

    Your video helped me. But what I ended up doing was placing the "blending" door back up into place, ( the right hinge pin was still OK) so that located it and helped hold it in place.
    I then set up my chop saw on the tailgate of the truck and cut some 3/4 x 3/4 wood stop stock to just the right length to wedge up against the blend door and up against the lower frame, below the crisis cross grate. I then used JB Water Weld putty to lock the wedges in place on the ABS. It is not going anywhere! Also, I unplugged the actuator motor that turns the blend door. Just so there is no engagement. Back to full power on AC/Blower output and if I ever want to make the back to factory repair, nothing is hacked or cut. Thanks again.
    One more tip: Remove the glove box, drink holder, center heater control panel and the panel behind the glove box that runs all the way over to the drivers foot well. And you will have access to make this repair without cutting anything factory. Good luck!

    hello Mr Myers,
    I'm having the same problem right now.
    after seeing your video,
    I did know what to do.
    Just like you, I was looking in the same direction.
    every time I put the fan to the maximum blow position, the air flow was not what it should be.
    yesterday the fan motor squeaked and I disassembled the motor to see what was wrong.
    As the motor came out, I've noticed that the door was lying on the fan.
    That was the reason I did not had the maximum air flow.
    Anyway,
    Many thanks for posting and for your explanation!
    You were very helpful for me and many other people as you can see in the comments.
    A big 2 thumbs up for you sir!
    Have a nice day!

    I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel 4X4. A/C was working fine and then one day the vents on the passenger side was not cold driving down the highway. But the vents on the drivers side were nice and cold. and in town both sides were cold. This system holds over 10lbs of freon. I had to put 2 1/2 lbs of freon to get it full. COLD A/C all the time now. Thanks for the help

    Thanks for taking the time to make this video. My 08 Mega Cab is blowing cold air out the driver vents when the heater is on plus the speed of the air exiting the vents doesn't change much when i switch to full blast. I think my recirculate door is broken and blocking air flow. I am going to give this a go right now. :)

    The recirculate feature is activated on the first two settings of the third selector knob. I don't think defrost works well with recirculated air.

      You are correct... As others have corrected me, there is a a recirculate feature but it is built into the knob selection unlike some vehicles that have an actual recirculate button.

    Hi Joe. Thank you for the very detailed video, with a very informative narrative. I have a couple of questions on the removal of the dash. How exactly does one remove the dash? Will it pop off with a good tug fromr a well placed srewdriver? How careful do I have to be? A friend said that I should be careful, especially when reinstalling the dash, because of "sensors", and if I don't get them realigned, that this would prevent the truck from starting. My personal thoughts on this statement is that this is not remotely his area of expertise.. Pretty much that is my main concern. Everything else seems to be something I can handle. But the thought of the truck not starting because of some crazy sensors has me about to face a summer in AZ without air. We just took a short trip to Vegas and back last week, and I suffered mild heat exhaustion with dizziness, nausea and a general feeling of "crappy"!! When we made a pitstop, my shorts were soaked with sweat. So, if you would be so kind to answer this one question, me and my family would be very grateful,. We would also be accepting of any other helpful hints or other sites you could send me to that would be useful. I also have an aftermarket stereo I want to install. Thank you in advance for any wisdom you send my way.
    Chris

      @joemyers7567  10 років тому

      The safest way to separate any plastic dash panels or pieces is with a plastic dash and door panel remover. You can generally find one at an auto parts store.
      On this particular truck you have to pop the plastic trim that runs along the door and on the floor, up first and then work your way up from there carefully pulling and prying behind each piece. You will find that there are some pieces that are screwed in rather than snap in.
      I am not aware of any sensors on or in the dash that would create a concern. If your only taking your dash apart as far as I did in this video then you'll be fine. If you have to take the entire dash apart then I wouldn't be able to confirm that sensors wouldn't be an issue.
      As far as the radio installation, If you have a factory amp as seen in the video, you'll need to remove the amp and bypass the wiring. You can google the bypass instructions for that.
      Hope that helps...
      Thanks, Joe Myers

    Hey Joe. Great video. My AC has little air coming through and isn't very cold. Had the compressor replaced and freon level checked. I got to the recirculator door only to find that it wasn't even there. Someone who worked on it before me has apparently removed it. I plan on cutting out the proper size door from a storage bin lid and screw it onto the opening as you did. Should this increase the amount of air and coldness?

    Here in wisconsin it's getting colder and colder. My 02 dodge ram has the issue of blowing barely warm air. It doesn't seem hot enough like it should be on defrost. When I turn it to the vents. Itll blow ice cold air on the driver side vents and hot air on the passenger side like it should. Floor vents aren't any better. Will this trick of yours also help me as well? If blocking the outside air from getting in is the issue I will tackle this project asap but it almost sounds like it's my blend doors.

The only way know to access it is to pull the entire box out. Also, if that recirc has broken and fallen down across the squirrel cage it will restrict your air flow.

    • @joemyers7567
      @joemyers7567  10 років тому +1

      Mike, sounds like your blend doors are broken which regulate either your floor and/or your main mix of heat and cold ac. You will most likely have to remove the whole dash to get inside the A/C box to fix that issue. Try "Heater Treater" for better quality doors, the factory oem ones are prone to fail.
      Hope that helps, Joe Myers

      Richard Cowtails You would have to ask Dodge to get the precise answer to that but in general it is a specific series that has certain modifications like a tail fin, Daytona stripe, Hood scoop, ground effects, 20" rims, Light guards, Daytona logos inside etc. Basically a SLT truck that is beefed up with cosmetic upgrades.
