Any harm in painting the inside? Some other videos I've been watching paint the inside black.

paint on the inside can fill in the surfaces you roughed up, use a dark water-based stain instead. You can also cut horizontal grooves instead of just sanding the surface

Hello Tracey- Thanks for your interest. You can buy a kit with the precut parts that Todd in the video is using here: www.batmanagement.com/Ordering/batboxes/smallkit.html

Not that it really matters, and this may be a really picky comment, but I thought "Liquid Nails" was very different from caulk. I don't think it has the same insulating properties. The video keeps referencing "caulk", and I believe Liquid Nails makes a caulk, but this appears to be the glue. Thanks for the video though!

Hi Russ - we tend to use the word "caulk" loosely, and yes what we are really using is an "adhesive caulk", hopefully forming an actual bond between the roof and sides rather than just filling in the gaps. This "adhesive caulk" hopefully keeps the roof together longer than regular weatherproofing caulk does. The roof separating is the major source of bat house failure, which is why we use so many screws in the roof too. It would be best to attached aluminum flashing to the roof and perhaps front of any wood bat house and that will greatly extend the life.

@@batconservationandmanageme4343 thank you for the advice. My only concern with the aluminum outer shell is if you have aluminum panels on all the outer surfaces would it cause an overheating situation?? I know bats like their houses pretty warm 80 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit but I don't want the house to get so hot that it cooks them as they sleep. Or would it be a good idea to have 1 hot house/ full sun and 1 cooler house in partial sun so they can change houses if one of the houses gets too hot?? We have a good amount of bats around our neighborhood and want to provide them with the best shelter possible. Plus I want to improve the numbers so they can wipe out the bugs. Thank you for any help, advice and experience you can give the family and me.
