For those wondering he mentions how to do this in his book. Its not something people can do right off that bat but it took him years to get it to the point where he can do it in the time he did it in. Its kind of a shortcut on memorizing but it doesn't work for studying because exams test you on your ability to use the information. His trick only allows you to memorize the order of words so it works better as a trick for entertainment then a legitimate study technique. However the technique can be used to memorize peoples names and a "to do list" so there are some benefits.

    • @effortist
      @effortist 8 років тому +28

This is not real, the techniques in his book are for small lists not entire books. This was all trickery, done with an earpiece and being fed the information.

xXRezzXx He doesn't memorize anything, he is an entertainer. Why would you believe a known charlatan has special abilities over your own common sense? Not once has he performed any of these feats with any scientific scrutiny.

Derren's development is interesting to look back on. As sensational as this trick is, he's trying a bit too hard to look clever here. Nowadays the Derren who is so assured and so comfortable due to 17 years of stage & TV work wouldn't come across quite as hasty and perhaps a little smug as he appears here. No blame or criticism because I loved him then and love him now, it's just interesting to note that he would probably look back and cringe a bit at his 'substance over style' approach here!

He mentions photoreading which is a reading trick that was invented by a guy named Paul Shield. You can look up the book photo reading and look a methods for how it's done on UA-cam who knows maybe with a bunch of practice you can do it I think something like old school speed reading techniques where you can read a book in a few days instead of a few weeks might be your best bet. I tried it and I tried it and if you look at the Amazon reviews they don't think the method really works.

In starting it seems like the librarian had the free will to choose the books from the whole gamut but if you can observe it closely the book that he chose was absolutely odd one out, different from other books nearby, so the librarian was manipulated to choose the specific book and Derren had already remembered that books. Actually it is even possible to remember particular page number based on the gapping of pages.

Whoever believes in 'supernatural abilities' have been owned by the fallacy of their own mind. It's a trick that DB is doing, looks at the books, the pages are marked so chances are the prospect is likely to turn to that particular page. It's easier than you think because you think it's very complicated and that's how you get framed into your own ability to judge the situation with a clear mind.

The most important thing in memorizing any text is to practice Recalling. Just rereading it over and over again is not the fastest way because reading is a different mental process than reciting/recalling
Recalling fires up the same paths in your brain (reinforcing them too) as when you are actually trying to remember/recite text

Ask yourself what you want to learn from the book before listening write it down .
So have afew different questions so your subconscious now has a target to look for.
Then listen to the audio but you need to distract your conscious mind with something else like chores or some work even counting down from high numbers have the audio volume low
or just do your normal listening routine.
After you have listened afew times do something else for 30 minutes then sit down with a pen and paper relax and ask the questions you prepared.
And write down any answers then listen the book consciously see how you did.
Do this daily and with multiple audios and youll get better results.

@@kelvin4975 Hi , yes I can. although the audio is only a part of the method I use.
Also it depends on the book a simple self help type book I could comfortable read six in a day .
I recently read a 450 page legal document which I simplified and memorized in two hours .
It was actually for my wife as she is dyslexic. I taught her how to memorize the simple version then questioned her on it regularly through out the day (as i knew the answers) a total of 30 minutes a day.
She had eight days to learn each law it's reference number and 3-6 sub laws.
She had to prove that she knew the document without notes and give factual examples with evidence of using each law.
This was for the first face to face assessment to get an appointment with the actual assessment team she did so well that the women called her an hour later and told her she passed and had spoke to the team and explained that there was no need for them as my wife had proven to have superior knowledge on the document .
She told her this was the first time it had ever happened in the 12 years she had worked there.
And that 24 people that day had called to cancel due to a lack off confidence in knowledge and that out of 98 people She had seen that month She was the only one that got through.
She asked how she did it my wife explained what i had taught her the women said it took her over a year to fully learn it.
My wife never mentioned that she never even read the actual document.
And believes she has a poor memory.
      So does it work 100%
