Hello Friend.the natural mountain and forest scenery here is so beautiful, my friend.Absolutely beautiful scenery of nature place.Thank you so much for sharing.🐾🐶🐾
I'm a hiker and backpacker, but have yet to thru hike. I live by the southern terminus of the PCT so it's always on my mind. Any time I come across PCT thru hiking videos of y'all exiting Kearsarge, I smile because I ended up managing to fit myself and my pack along with 3 gents with their full packs into a tiny rental car to drop them off at Bishop when we were all coming off trail. They were loving life. I must admit I wish I was getting back in trail with them.
I love that! The kearsarge pass area is so breathtaking! I’m glad I got nice weather when I returned to the trail and was able to see the full view. Do you have any intentions of doing the full pct?
Master Trekker Rabbit! Your videography is awesome! Glad you found a partner to travel with, I’m curious how Mellow’s pace is in sync with yours as you look quite a bit taller. Their river crossings are no joke! The Sierras are legit, looking forward to Bishop & planning, I find that stuff very interesting.
Thanks again Robert! I appreciate your constant support on my videos! It was so nice having Mello to cover though miles with. Truly the friend I desperately needed 😅. As far as our paces, all that matters is that we made it work.
What stands out the most for me is that you were picked up by a mother and her two daughters!! Hikers must be a natural part of her world!! Thanks for the great video, Carl!
It great seeing the shots of Mello and the shots of you from Mello's angle. I'll tell ya, you really get that music timing just right. As far as my favorite part,.. not the blisters. Sometimes it's seeing what you eat. I know hikers will eat the strangest combinations, but sometimes I question your sanity. But, I REALLY like seeing the shots compose,.. the one with the ice ax was *chef's kiss*.
@@schmitzcj Thank you so much! Having a subject to film definitely helped with the cinematography! That made me laugh about the food. I agree I’ve put together some.. interesting mixes 😂. I’m so glad you like that ice axe transition, it’s one of my favourite parts in the video. I appreciate your comment!
Hello! No favorite parts.. im just thrilled and fascinated to follow yours ”trip” at the PCT.. I like yours filming, talk and the attidude you have. Its such a pleasure to see. Thanks from Martin 🇸🇪
@@sharamckinney575 Actually I'm shooting for 2031 for either the AT or PCT. If I don't get a PCT permit, then it'll be the AT. If I can do it earlier, I will.
It’s cool to see how calculated your risk taking is and how respectful you are towards nature and its dangers in spite of your goals! Keep the hustle going brother!
Thanks brother! I’ve always had a type of mentality where if you respect nature, nature will respect you. The heart of the sierras, with its challenging terrain, is good at reminding people passing through to slow down. I’d like to go through without snow next time though 😅
Not long ago I found a fun channel, a solo hiker in the Sierra’s, her new channel has a few fall hikes in the area that you’re going through now. You might enjoy seeing the area with min snow as a different perspective. As an older fella I’d find a spring trek through the Sierras beyond my comfort and skill set. @basinandrange Basin and Ridge
I want nothing more than to return! I might not be able to fight the urge to go back this year.. haha Yeah.. it was bad. It has since healed, there is in fact no sign of it ever existing. Funny enough, having wet feet all day long through the sierras helped my blister situation (for the time being..). You're welcome, and thank you for watching and commenting! I really appreciate it! :)
As always Carl, another epic video!!! Loved how you showed the reality of going up the wrong part of Forester pass and having to back track! It seems difficult to navigate through the snowy terrain and stay on trail!! Oh and your BLISTERS!! Holy Shit! Looking forward to your next video and absolutely loving this series!! Cheers and hope you have a great rest of your week! 😊
@@baysizzz Thank you so much! I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment! I’m glad you liked the going the wrong way part. I questioned whether to add that or not, in order to keep the flow of the epic segment, and because it can seem reckless to end up so far off trail on a climb like this. But the truth is, as you said, there was no trail, everything was snow covered, and unless you were constantly checking your phone instead of admiring the landscape, you were bound to end up in the wrong direction. It brings me joy and motivation to hear that you’re loving the series and I look forward to sharing more of it! Wishing you a great rest of your week as well! Cheers, Carl
Awesome shots and narration Carl! I'm currently in Bishop for the winter/ maybe summer and can't wait to see the thru hikers coming through in a few months. I hiked the trail in 18' and boy has it shaped my life to what it is today. Do you think you will do another trail? Cheers
Hey Andy, thank you so much! Oh fun! When I was in bishop I totally got the “I could live here” vibe. Did your pct experience influence you to move to bishop? I feel that, the pct is such a life changing experience in so many ways! All I want is to go back 😂 which brings me to your question.. I may go back this year, it is what my heart wants. I have to decide wether I want to do tons of different hikes and document each one of those, or do the pct again at a slower pace to get the full effect of the pct and being able to dive deeper in the lifestyle, community, camaraderie, and landscape as I document it all along the way. As far as the other major thruhike, potentially a calendar year triple crown next year 😅. Have you done any of the other major trails?
Thanks! Haha yea.. it wasn’t great. For treatment, I just ensured to clean them as best I could in the evenings, and walked on them during the day, eventually cutting away all the separated skin.. 😬
Thank you! I agree to that decision.. entering the sierras in may sure was beautiful but the snow wasn’t very fun! Constantly slipping and sliding and post holing.. I honestly don’t know how I didn’t break an ankle 😅
You did such a great job in capturing the beauty and highlighting the demands of the trail/Sierra. I was 2 weeks behind you and regret not taking more picts/videos. Can’t wait to see your next video. Thanks…One Track
Hey One Track! Thank you! I’m so glad you think that! Too bad you didn’t capture as much as you would have liked but hopefully these videos provide you the nostalgia and memories about how epic your adventure was. Awesome that you were also on the trail! How was the snow by the time you got there?
Snow was melting at a good rate. We would cover as much ground as possible prior to 10:00…then the post holing started. I suspect the water crossings were a bit tougher as well. The stream you crossed right before Forester Pass was very tricky….we formed a chain to get through it. In your next video I am interested to hear your thoughts on Glen and Mather passes. I thought the climb down the backside of Glen was tricky and the last 300 yards to the top of Mather was the sketchiest part of the entire trail.
@ so interesting to hear the different perspective! The 10am (which quickly became 9am) to 6pm of post holing every day was so exhausting! Yes, those were definitely areas you didn’t want to slip 😅 and the cornice on Mather’s pass 😬 some of my favourite passes tho!
The shoes you are wearing, are they Topos? I found those to be so uncomfortable for me, I got blisters with them, but I think it was because of the 5MM Drop, not good for my foot.
@@G.Photogirl Mello, who I was hiking with, was wearing Topos. But I wore the Altra Lone Peak 7. I have never tried Topos myself. What shoes have you found to work for you now?
@@carlblanchet lone peak 3.5s were the last good altras. I switched to Topos after the 4.5s kept falling apart and the sole grinding down after only 200ish miles. How many miles are you getting on those 7s?
@@OliverHikes It's true that their models seem to be less and less durable. I replaced the lone peak 7s that I was wearing in this video after 848 miles. I switched to lone peak 6s on which I put 1351 miles. Then I got lone peak 7s again which ive put 960 miles on. How do you like the Topos compared?

Thanks for sharing this gear info! The tripod I carried was great, but so heavy... and at this point of the journey I no longer had the energy to take my bag off / on, set up the tripod, etc, so I actually carried it until the end for nothing from here on out, as I would jab my trekking pole in the ground and balance my camera in the handle sling, which worked great when it wasn't windy.
