- Cauda equina syndrome (CES) is relatively rare, and yet its diagnosis is invoked with a fair amount of frequency in acute care settings. This is not unwarranted, as it is a crippling disease that is a bona fide surgical emergency. If attended to in too delayed a fashion, a patient can be left paralyzed, incontinent, and impotent. In this Medmastery lesson, from our Neurology Masterclass: Managing Emergencies, we review the detailed management of cauda equina syndrome.
Handle neurological emergencies with confidence after taking this course. Find out what’s wrong with your patient and treat them fast.

To those reading this, many medical professionals won’t tell you this, but YOU CAN FULLY RECOVER FROM THIS SYNDROME!!!! Physical therapy, exercise, and deep massaging of those numb nerves can come back. Our bodies were designed to heal itself, nerves repair themselves, it just takes time. Don’t settle for less than you were born to be……Don’t lose hope, it will get better. Just don’t keep sitting there and laying there accepting that situation.
I. Got. Ehlers danlos and was told. Im more prone to getting this and never walk without my Walker. And. A back. Brace.
hello cee marie...that true what you telling? i hope can fully recovery from this syandrom...aamiin.., please give expalin more.., thanks u soo much

i have faced
CAUDA EQUINA SYNDROME
This is by far the best, most informative video I've watched on this subject.
Well explained and I went through cauda equina emergency operation and symptoms were similar. It is rare and my cause was trauma brought on by very heavy lifting in my job.
thanks
Had almost all these symptoms 6 weeks ago after trauma- emergency discectomy and amazingly 100% clear now
May i ask if you are male?
If so, how long till you regained sexual function? Or general penis function, if i may say?
Hey I need help I got bad but in days I can feel leg and feet I can now squeeze my butt im saveable on my dick ?
How do you doing to heal it?
How can u heal that
I'm glad that your doing better and praying for you I'm getting ready to make a appt to have surgery cause I've had 2 spinal stenosis and went through heck and everything turned out fine but having this bowel/urine incontinence and being weak and can't eat it's to much 😫 I'm over this mess I'm just tired of surgery...... but to stop this incontinence I'll do anything I'm done ☹
Have acid trips and it will help the nerves reconnect. I have managed to undo about 90% of the damage having a trip every month or so.
sir i have an accident in six months ago and take spinal surgery and till i have numbness in saddle area and no asensation inthnis area and penis
the doctors said two years time to recovery.the urine and motion is not going in normal condition ?
@carl weed so did functionalities return far as intercourse…if too personal for public I would appreciate if I could exchange emails so I could ask you more personal questions I recently had the surgery 2/1/21 I was told that it was a two year recovery time I’m still numb at times in legs and saddle area and some lack of feeling in my front area so really just a day by day process but trying hope for the best since I haven’t hit the 2 year mark yet..
What is the likelihood of recovering from addle anesthesia if early, successful emergency surgery is performed?
I had emergency surgery 24 hours following rapid onset of saddle numbness, following two weeks of worsening “sciatica” (as diagnosed by my PCP and an Urgent Care). They did not image me and I am paying the price now. Only a week past surgery so I’m hoping I will get something back in the months to come.
I had very slow onset. When I was 21 I noticed it was difficult to pee first thing in the morning, then as time went on I found it difficult to maintain an erection as i couldn't feel much during the deed. Then started getting leg pains for years and occasional pain in back and side. It wasn't untill I was 28 that I went to A&E because I couldn't walk, sleep, or pee. Had emergency surgery same day. I still have patches of numbness in my legs and butt 7 years after surger but still lucky to others who suffered this condition. .
Till now u have numbness ??
@@sarathy9815 yea.. Half my foot is numb and then patches of numbness on my legs. Its weird.. Its numb but also really sensitive to temperature :s
@carl weed... after how many days you were able to walk properly
@@Dipanshi_here Not long at all. Once the anaesthetic wore off I was away ha.. Felt like a rusty cog in my back was clicking with every step but by the third day I was completely pain free when walking and signed myself out of hospital. Other guys on the ward were there for weeks so I think being younger really helped.
@@w33dy86 could i please get a little more of your precious time...
Did you also had physiotherapy...if yes ,then did it really helped you??
From the time you diagnosed yourself with this syndrome...so after how much time from that, you went for the surgery.....
Please reply 😐
Sir I have l4-l5 l5-s1 buldging disc can it lead to ces if not treated properly...
How are you. Ihave disc buldge. What will i do pls reply me
Same question. I have most of these symptoms. Definitely fearful of the bladder/bowel issues becoming permanent.
@@RabbitHoleDiarieshow are you?
I got one in 2021 and my wang still work
I have nearly all of these symptoms, but they told me I just have a bulging disc at L5-S1...
I'm having those symptoms 2weeks ago doctors didn't sent me to the ER.
Bowel movements with diarrhea only, bladder seems to be ok. But i can't feel sensation to bowel movement...
Numbness in the groin 90%, buttocks feel mildly numb. Legs feels weak.
Non sleeping due to struggling to breath deeply. Muscle relaxers help with sleeping as they allow me to take almos deep breaths but not full deep.
My body posture changed, as in my walking. Still can walk but feel insecure for the weakness.
Two weeks in this situation is too late to being assisted and recover my functions?
How are you now?
@@johnreygavaran7373 Hi, much better, still numbness but the other symptoms almost normal. I'm still planning another study (EMG) but I don't have health insurance.
The thing is that having bad anxiety disorder (GAD) made it worse than it was...so I'm waiting to improve slowly and, if this comes back worse then I'll need surgery immediately but...I hope to be OK.
Hello, I also have developed difficulty in bowel movements i.e. it feels to tight down there. Did you go through an operation? And also how are you now?
@@vibhu2327 hi, still numb. The other symptoms disappeared. Antidepressants don't help with feeling... But I need them. I lost hopes of full recovery.
@@veronicagorosito187 you had to go through surgery? If no how were you treated?
Or Durel Tears...
And my left leg is a lot less
Happen to me
how are you now?
I must admit that when I don’t take my morning meds I will shit my pants but I take no vikes perks or any hard drugs
the cauda equina patient is to drink beer or any alchoholic drink?
