how long
Best wishes sir and don’t worry as that’s a machine weather it’s one day old or thousand days, there’s hundred percent possibility of having a technical issue and stay safe and take care. You are BLESSED 👍
Lets hope you dont get it back on the back of a wrecker. :D lol
Now I'm exsided
Just waiting
Manufacturers are building trash trucks these days and then want you to pay them 150k plus! Gtfo
Except PACCAR. I've owned long nose Pete's since 1984......NOTHING BETTER!!!!!
@Linkavich Chamofskee Wiring isn't a "fluke" you either assemble it correctly or you don't.
Just new trash
I like Pete’s, but the wiring on older ones no good
A 2021 full size SUV can cost as much as $95,000 stock and much more with dealer installed options. If you think you are going to get an OTR truck with all the modern comforts and high tech gadgets along with a dependable diesel engine that operators expect to go 500k or 1 million miles for $150k you might want to investigate the manufacturing costs. You are living in a fantasy world if you think a high quality OTR truck can be sold for $150,000. They can't build a dependable truck for $150,000 but operators aren't willing to spend the kind of money it would take to get a dependable vehicle. So the manufacturers build cheap ones and all the operators moan and complain when they have to spend a lot of money repairing them and lose money because of downtime. If operators weren't so cheap and would spend the money required to have rock solid equipment we wouldn't have videos like this.
Imagine if mechanics only bought tools from Harbor Freight and then complained about how terrible their tools are and how frequently they break or fail to do their job. That is what complaining about a $150,000 OTR truck looks like to me. You want a heavy duty commercial vehicle that can operate dependably for at least 500k miles before a major service and that doesn't break down frequently before that but you aren't willing to get out the checkbook and pay for that kind of dependability.
You get what you pay for just like every other product available for sale in the world. $150,000 is simply not enough to engineer and build a really strong and relatively trouble free heavy duty OTR truck. If manufacturers built a truck like that it would cost $250,000 to $300,000 and nobody would buy them. I've seen trucks and SUVs in GM and Ford dealerships that cost over $100,000. Don't expect to get a heavy duty commercial truck that is trouble free for $150,000. It's just not possible in any way shape or form.
One day when owners and operators wake up to the fact that if they spend the money up front on a good truck they will save 2 to 3 times that extra cost on less maintenance, repairs, and less downtime because of breakdowns the manufacturers will build more really good trucks. Until those guys are willing to write the check for a good truck up front don't complain that manufacturers are to blame. They are only building what they can at the price point the market is willing to pay. Blame yourself and every other driver/owner/operator who doesn't understand economics and that it costs a lot more to build a good reliable commercial vehicle than you think it does.
I agree it's frustrating but the finger points at owners and operators who simply aren't willing to pay for a high quality commercial vehicle. They want it as cheap as possible and then they want to moan and complain when it constantly breaks down.
That thing is a lemon🍋 Send it back.
He can't. His company sent it to him.
It's hardly a lemon. It's a new truck and these types of things are to be expected. It's the reason why a lot of drivers don't want a new truck because there is, or can be, a lot of babysitting
@@leir2005 It's called (working out the kinks)
what a piece of junk, stupid stuff going wrong , from day one . I wonder if freightliner is going to pay for down time?
Anyone want to guess?
Call your dispatcher and tell them you want your old truck back ASAP!!! This is BS and they know it.
I like the older trucks better. They are simpler and easier to maintain. Plus they just want to run!
What’s your favorite truck and what year?
@@parliamentpictures2217 Still loving my 2007 International 9400. 500 HP ISX. Pre Emissions of course
1996 International 9400 powered by a Cat 3406, electronic fuel injection, bolted to an Eatin Roadranger transmission.Anteater hood, hi-rise “Pro Sleeper” cab, Twin polished 150 gallon fuel tanks. Now I’m reminiscing!
Amen to that brother
Amen
I'm so happy my 20 year old kenworth t600 haven't giving any issues.
😁
'99 Freightliner owner here. This guy has had more electrical issues already than I've had in the last few years. 10 speed, cat motor, 8 mpg running 88,000 lbs. Yes, I am happy!
It's the first time I saw you driving all 3 Semi-trucks in one video! (Western Star, Freightliner, and Volvo)!
Thank you for another awesome ride, Rusty!
Take care and stay safe!
Western star: Im tired of going around america, im going to sleep
Rusty: Dafuq?! Why this truck wont start?
Rusty: "I think its time to delete this thing"... :D lol
When it rains it pours! But the sun will always shine in the end..... Keep doing what you do 🤙🏼
You not alone. Been couple 2020 Western Stars brand new low hours & mileage with major problems. Wheels not rolling making no money.
Even after they fix it, a substantial amount of trust is out the window.
And time! Which is money!
Hope your luck turns around!😁 love from Finland!😁 stay safe broo
Tämä.
Ehehee päivää
Finland gang everywhere 😄
What a good guy you're very greatful and humble and it's refreshing. Stay cool bro
I can relate Rusty. Looking forward to seeing the next chapter of the Western Star.
8:07 Legal, just call it social distancing 😂
Not legal! Check your laws! Same reason someone pulling an RV on a 5th wheel can't have someone in there!
Gear Bangers 🤣 I have never driven stick shift truck until I said yes I have experience on job application. It was rough few days and ton of UA-cam watching but now I can float like a was born in a cab of the truck.
Made me LOL at the end - nice video sorry about your loss!
Just be glad it happened at a truck stop. Imagine you were in the middle of nowhere
Yes I broke down a couple times or more along side of the road.
Any update on your personal Volvo rebuild?
life brings you a lot of challenges and what matters is your response to beat the challenges. you are my favourite trucker.
Much respect for you.. not many people will admit there not good at something, especially on UA-cam
I wont knock anyone for driving an automatic. Been doing this for 20 or so years , the couple times I tried an Auto it stressed me out ! Didn't know what to do ! Just don't know any different, to each there own. We're all out here just trying to make a $ so drive what you like. Cool videos !
Thank you
It’s sad today’s truck drivers Freak out when they get into the truck they actually have to shift gears in
I was shocked to find out that truck school grads have a restriction on their license that says they can only drive an automatic.
haha thats right Thunder Struck. That is why these snowflakes cant do anything on their own. they have demanded to have their lives made easier and they are going to get it. The only thing worse than having a "note" from your mommy saying your not allowed to manually shift your big rig is sitting in a truck stop diner and having to listen to all the micro-dick measuring while ordering soy latte's and fixing their man-buns. fuck'em they deserve auto driving trucks. world needs more shitty screenwriters anyway
TWEED speculum so should we really call them drivers or steering wheel holders?
@@thunderstruck6060 thats pretty generous of you! ehh, what the hell, lets give 'em a trophy too hahahaha
It’s funny bc I’ve never driven an auto. I’d be acting the same if they put me in an auto. Lol
Seems like every truck this guy gets in breaks down 😂
My bf and I were just saying this...
He is Russian..Russians hate Americans trucks. ...Volvo's are the god of trucks..just listen to him praising the Volvo's..looks good..drives better....the worst... freightliner engine and transmission.. I have 6 2018 cascadia and 2 ws 5700.they are great..oh they all have experienced drivers
You are so right. Mine do not break like his.
maybe it's the driver :P
I was thinking it could be the driver too.
hey rusty lve been watching your videos from 2 weeks ......i gotta tell u man i find them so satisfying u do a great job, love from India
9:16 When life shows you it has a sense of humor........
Epic random sign placement says it all..
This is what "progress" has done to us.
Call up Western Star and be like for all the trouble I’ve had with this truck, you should swap out those halogens for leds.
Nothing better than a cup of coffe and a new video from Rusty!! Take care and be safe out there!
Hey man keep your head up i know you have had a lot of truck problems but it will get better i know the struggle my dad has been driving for 30 plus years and i know how hard it is
Stay Safe Rusty. Also I have watched some of your older Videos
Better off with an old truck that has over a million miles on it, believe it or not. Anything pre emission. Also you can rebuild the old ones.
That's a fact, whatever could be wrong was already fixed
AMEN! The EPA ruined trucks more than cheap parts and labor ever could.
@@PatrickBaptist I know. I've seen the def engines apart and there's a lot of plastic parts inside that get brittle from the heat. They're all disposable now.
I think the universe is asking you to finish your Volvo....finish your truck bro.... watching from Ndola Zambia 🇿🇲🇿🇲🇿🇲
Don't be surprised that's the future of trucking with the new junk being manufactured this day's...
It's all crap now
Driving stick is like riding a bike, you never forget when u wreck. 🤯🙈😄
My late father drove a Kenworth K 100 back in the 70’s for North American Can Line. Sorry you broke down.
What a great attitude brother!! Prayers for way better days ahead 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼💪💪💪🇺🇸
we have a 2020 western star with a d12 - dd15, has 18,000 miles and only problem it has was a electrical issue with one of the gauges, quick fix. It runs strong so far.
i cant believe what i am hearing, trucker stopped in his tracks over a gear shift?? sad
Standard transmission is a thing of the past my friend
That may be in this kinder gentler world built for snowflakes but you see where all that high math gets you? A hotel and a meal allowance..
We’re gonna have electric self driving trucks soon. Get over it.
@@Zero67891 what is there to get over? I can't watch the uncoordinated simpletons figure how to shift anymore? They already can't back up. Those who have "gotten over it" are exactly why there will be self driving trucks. Let someone figure it out for you snowflake. Enjoy your soilent green.
Man, what are they putting in the retirement pudding these days? 😭
Imagine not being able to drive manual... topical.
I'm an old school driver and if U forget how to drive a manual U really don't need to be driving. Your cutting yourself off at the knees.
First few years I was in an automatic, I found a company that would train me in a manual, been with the 10 speed a few weeks now. I like it more then the auto even though my shifting isn't that smooth yet.
Just a heads up for those older cascadias, the jake switch on the dash is just the level switch. The activation switch (on and off) is a small button on the right side of the steering wheel. A green light will come on the upper left side of dash when jakes are on
Had the same issue with a Cascadia Freightliner. It was one of the 5 computers that got fried and wouldn't let the truck stay running. It took Freightliner one week to find the problem.
Said it before a million times and will say it again.
The new trucks are junk. Made is more plastic and sensors then ever before. Which means more shit to break.
This is exactly why I am in the process of restoring a 2005 western star. With a detriot 60series.
It’s build like a brick sht house compared to these new trucks.
160k for a truck that’s half plastic and a few hundred pounds of electrical sensors bolted to every part u can imagine.
For real, western stars used to be HAND BUILT. Those days are long gone in truck manufacturing.
Honestly once you get up to speed on the highway a manual is just the same as an auto, the biggest difference is in traffic in an auto your clutch knee doesn't hurt😂😂
Rusty, next time you are about to come through Indio, Ca, you should stop by TKB bakery & deli exit Golf center. If coming through during the day it’s worth the stop. I think they close at 5pm or 6pm, they have the best sandwiches and they got #1 in the nation last year on yelp
Hard times and trials come and go...I am a farmer/rancher I know all bout these breakdowns.. We dust off pick our selves up and roll on..
Like your videos as I am a sometimes trucker too..
It seems that the manufacturer of the western star is trying to under estimate your ability of driving....hahaha... well life is not always a bed of roses... once you receive a lemon make a lemonade out it and put more sweetener... Keep safe and God bless...
I wish you the best luck my man✊🏽🙏🏽
Dear Rusty Jacksonville Boy,
It is what it is ...no promise.
Brand new and breaks down.
Keep trucking

YES!!! Finally THE video we've all been waiting for!!! Hahaha God Bless you Rusty!!! "Is this legal? IDK stop asking so much questions" 😂😂😂 I hope the dealer was able to resurrect the WS!!! Glad you're okay and the Company treats you so good!!!

p.s. I was sorta right on my guess of what was wrong . . . just sayin' 🤷♀️😉😂
That is the reason why I'm still driving my 96 kw t600
But when it konks out you'll be sorry.
O7 Mack...900000 miles...still going..drive safe..

@Kevin Knox Why you rude? Boomer
@@lunchthief1855 then you rebuild it for 10k and run it a another million..My 95 fld120 has over 2 million on it..and my 1995 classic has 1.5 million..I spend less on maintenance and keeping both running than a new truck payment would be for garbage that depreciates like crazy and has constant problems Leving your stranded and forced to go to the dealership because only they can work on it.
Put the next viedo as much fast u can from INDIA🇮🇳 love your videos man
Ouchy sorry hear your having all bad luck man. That really suck. Prety sure most truckers will prob tell you. Stay away from newer stuff and automatic. Most will prob tell you older truck are more reliable cuz don’t have computer shit. Maybe bug your company for older Pete or Kenworth? Or maybe can give lend you some money to get your truck at home fixed and running?
Best of luck that things get better for you:)
your luck with these newly made trucks is really short rusty.hope u get it all sorted out😃😃
You need a Mack Anthem or a Pete 579.
No. They would break down, too. We need Rusty on the road in trucks that are not TOOO new. :) lol [JOKE INTENT]
WOW! A brand new truck and these kind of break downs. Rusty I like your videos and the fact that you share the breathtaking scenery with us. Great content and I hope that they can fix this and it will keep working for you.
Mane that sucked a lot but things happen for a reason hope your trip continues on well and everything will be better and you insipired me to really start vlogging about trips i make
Between you and This Guy Trucks! Y'all spend a lot of time broken down. I guess overall it's to be expected because you are OTR but damn! That would drive me crazy. Especially when your truck is also your home :( Sending good vibes your way bro!
manual transmission? congratulations, man! you've grown up:)
Yeah if only they at least looked good. They're ugly and have no stick.
when I was a Lorry Macanic we never stopped for a break ! !, until the Truck was fixed ! !
Hi its brian from Kenya I think manuals are a bit tough on some guys but I would still pick the manuals
why all of the trucks you drive keeps getting broken? this isn't normal right? or drive it too rough?
new truck technology
You’ve no idea unless you truck full time. Shit happens all the time with something. Granted he’s had some bad luck but could go the next month or two with no issues.
Ant F - I agree!
It's also amazing how often new trucks break down in the running-in period. They're more complex than cars these days = lots of stuff to go wrong
Then why not go a bit smoother through break in period?
My friend, you have no luck with these machines. Perhaps it is time to climb into a Scania or DAF or a Merc :) Stay safe, stay positive. Stuff will go right soon!
They don't sell Scania daf or Mercedes in America
@@leoarevalo6786 I did not know that. Pity. They are pretty reliable machines. Thanks for the info, mate :)
Tycondaroga those Euro s h it trucks will overheat and burn in flames doing those hills in North America lol
Love the look of the new western stars.. truckin there’s never a boring day.. good luck
Been waiting for this vid brotha !! Hope all is well with you rusty
For those daycabs the engine brake turn on is on the steering wheel
The dash switch just controls high med low
Mine also and I hate that.
Yes and the engine is run by Windows 10
I had the same problem on my western star 5700, Freightliner quality control seems to be really shitty
Freighter has went to shit over the years, their frames are the worst in the industry. I wouldn't own much less drive their product.
Don’t sweat it Rusty , it’s gonna be better than ever 👍
Very sorry Rusty thank you for update on western star, stay safe and God protect you out there and Jamie lots of love from Africa Namibia 🇳🇦
I’m sad to see ur truck break down after u got it. Love ur videos!
You saying life brings down. Your day is so bad etc, this is not your company you not paying for towing , mechanics lease etc, you just a driver
His company has 3 "family semi trucksters." 2 of them are down. I think they have learned their lesson. lol
I dont own the truck I drive but I try my hardest to save my company money and not abuse the trucks. I save my company a tow and and few service calls.I drive a 2021 volvo and pull new company owned trailers. we have over 800 trucks so Im not driving junk.
You car for your company they'll care for you in return. Little bit of give and take

His idea of a good truck is a really really really nice sleeper😂😂😂
The Volvo most likely has dynamic steering as they have here in north Europe.
Love my 6NZ 18 speed long hood, pre emission is my way.
Sorry bro for the mishap with your truck. I've followed your channel and i love the american trucking experience. Am your fan from KENYA.
There are so many professional drivers on and off you tube that won't touch a western star with a ten foot pole
but I personally like them mostly because I am a Diesel tech and as long as those trucks are being made I know I will have a job

What did you expect from a new emissions truck🤷🏽♂️
Exactly. Unfortunately people pay so much for this junk.
Driving automatics is the worse thing especially when you do a lot of stopping and taking off ....Everyday I'm pulling out in front of somebody going 2 mph .....I miss driving manuals and being able to take off in 6th gear instead of 2nd gear with these slow ass automatics .
@Kevin Feliciano how ?
I got towed to that exact dealer. Tolleson Az. 2020 cascadia threw a rod through the block at 38,000 miles. It’s not western star that’s the junk. It’s the freightliner owned parts. You’ve just been lucky with the cascadia’s
Ignore all the negative comments. Being honest about how you see things makes your videos extra appreciated. And all the "I love old trucks" people don't seem to understand why all the technology has been introduced into new vehicles. Think of how crappy floppy disks were and how often PCs crashed before they perfect the technology. It will happen with vehicle technology also. And the world will be a better place. Safer for everyone and less pollution.
lol I’m still in my 2015 Cascadia 890,xxx on the dash
The ChrisWard any major repairs?
Дивись в Очко nothing with the engine. I’m having her go in the shop tomorrow for a control Modular. Other than that, tires and oil changes regularly.
