    Wow James, long time subscriber here. Just have to say that this video really resonated with me. It's on a whole other level, as you analyze not the best or worse for everyone but what works for the individual's anatomy. Your videos have always been great, but this one made this me look at bicep exercises in a different way. I've been working out for over 25 years and thought I had it all figured out, but today I learned something new about the angle of the forearm. Keep it coming!

      Hey my friend! Yeah I think the one thing that we always have to remember is that there isn’t “a best way” and that what’s best for one person may not be the best for another.

    This video was one of the most informative fitness related videos I’ve watched on UA-cam. I’ve used straight bars, ez bars and dumbbells and always wondered why I felt some elbow pain when using them in various ways. Now I understand way more and will experiment with them differently. Really appreciate this detailed explanation. Keep up the good videos!

    Very informative! I never heard of this. I'm going to have to remember to check. I've always used dumbbells more for convenience. There is usually a rack of dumbells at the gym whereas the barbells are usually on a bench for benching. Great stuff. These are all the little things that I wish I knew 40 years ago. but at 60, I do mostly stick to bands, since I no longer like going to the gym.

    This was great. A blend of the basics but only deeper. Now I have the "why" to go with what I already knew (that both seemed to work a little different for me)

    James, great video, please do more of this type. I have a question, are our physiques one forever situation, or as we develop muscle & experience can we change the valgus? Thanks.

    • @JamesGrage
      @JamesGrage  5 місяців тому

      So valgus is part of our bone/ligament structure and there’s nothing we can do to change it - so the best thing is to find exercises that work better for you

    James love your content. I use to watch your videos before I hurt my shoulder. Glad to see your back at it. I am getting back to fitness after 4 years of dealing with a pretty severe slap tear. Any advice on how to work around this type of injury. I have not had surgery yet. Hoping to put it off a few years.

    • @JamesGrage
      @JamesGrage  5 місяців тому +1

      Training around injuries is a tough one to give advice on, but the best thing I can say from my own personal experiences (having a ridiculous number of injuries 😂) is that you have to let your better judgement be your guide. There’s a fine line between helping and hurting the situation and nobody will be able to tell you where that line is. Only you will have a sense for it

    Thank you so much sir! I started to add straight bar curls to my work out last year and just as you described super uncomfortable, but I pushed through because "no pain, no gain" right?... I've been working around golfer's elbow now for a few months... At least I know why now.

    Loving the content you've been uploading lately James. Been a subscriber for years. What happened during the three year period that you stopped uploading? Did you just burn out?

    • @JamesGrage
      @JamesGrage  5 місяців тому +1

      Hey my friend. There were a few big contributing factors but a bit of burnout was definitely part of it. Truth is, ever since I started my channel in 2009 I never had a motivation beyond the fact that I liked sharing information, teaching and helping others. In the beginning that was rewarding because most people recognized that and appreciated it. As soon as everyone wanted to become a UA-camr that dynamic changed.

    James- in Arnold’s pumping iron he performs an isolation curl but it is not seated- will this work for you ? I think I have similar alignment to you - or is this a technique just for pros - also do you always do isolations at the end of your bicep workouts or do you vary , or don’t do at all??
    Thanks in advance
    J

    • @JamesGrage
      @JamesGrage  5 місяців тому +1

      You would have to show me the movement he was doing. It’s been a long time since I’ve watched it.
      In general, outside of doing compound movements on back day (rows and Pulldowns) where you are working biceps also, most of your biceps-specific exercises like curls are isolation exercises. Think “single joint” movements. One example of a compound movement for biceps would be a reverse grip chin-up. There you are moving at both the elbow and shoulder. Now, the biceps is polyarticular (crosses shoulder as well) so you are using your biceps in some movements where you are lifting your arms out in front of you. I've personally just never found that I got better results by overcomplicating the movements. Between back day and biceps isolation movements you're going to work that muscle thoroughly.

    Dumbells are the best tools in the gym. I use barbells for nothing. Dumbells. Cables. Machines. Barbells manipulate your body so in fact there is less freedom of movement and why many blow out pecs and backs. And get bicep tears
