“I hope they're proud”: BC woman leaves family behind to volunteer in Ukraine

- We all know what it is like to make sacrifices, but one B.C. woman is making a major sacrifice of her own by leaving her family to volunteer in Ukraine.
April Huggett has been helping civilians and soldiers in the war-torn country for 17 months, even though she had originally planned to be there for just 20 days.
Mike Armstrong speaks with Huggett about what inspired her to help on the front lines.

Russia invaded Crimea, Donbas, and Luhansk and shot down MH17 in 2014. Now Russia has further criminally invaded, occupied and illegally annexed Ukrainian territory and Putin is conducting a genocidal war against the Ukrainian people.

I follow her on Social media and I dont' think she's ever taken a day off. She held people, animals - everyone and everything. She is an angel. And the Russians have targeted her via social media, as they have with many volunteers there, trying to discredit her and others. Just look at some of the comments below from the massive Russian troll machine spilling out comments and social media accounts trying to take down anyone and anything helping Ukraine. this girl is an angel

What is wrong with the people commenting here, is a reflection of what’s wrong with the world. If she were my mother I would be proud of her. She is not always going to be around for her children, however she gives them an extraordinary example of being committed to something you believe in. Of walking the talk and going out and making a difference in the lives of others. Nobody on earth can has the power to save the world, but each person can contribute in one way or another. I remember my father’s words today when I discussed difficulty with completing a goal and the obstacles others presented in the way! He said, no problem, simply tell them the goal clearly and their role in achieving it and if they resist, simply tell them to get out of your way! I admire this woman for having the courage to help in Ukraine, to give of herself for a while to help in their cause. I am sure that if she volunteered, she was certain her children would be well taken care of. The World needs more people like her! There are those who sit in the bleachers and watch and talk and those that go to the plate, win, lose, or draw. You go girlfriend, blessings and that you return safely to your loved ones. 🙏
