The Retrospect Show was played in Eindhoven as the 10th anniversary of Epica. It was a once-in-a-lifetime-show and i still get goosebumps when thinking back to the concert.

Epica - Consign to Oblivion live at Zenith. Epica is an awesome band in their own right. Simone and Floor are longtime friends and Mark Jansen ( no relation) used to be bandmates with Floor in After Forever.
Great reaction! Floor was actually one of Simone's vocal coaches earlier in their careers, so Simone learned from the best.
And for your next rabbit hole.... Within Temptation, the song Somewhere. Best version is with the Black Symphony. Within Temptation has yet another Dutch goddess in Sharon Den Adel. On that particular performance she is joined by Anekke van Giersbergen; that performance is held as one of the best duets ever. You also need to check out Floor on Beste Zangers 2019. Any of her appearances but the crown jewel is Phantom of the Opera with Henk Poort.

I soooo love the chorus of this song. I'm the opposite of happy today, but the chorus made me smile. And I saw it in another comment: Stabat Mater should be next. The song from Mary to Jesus while he's on the cross. I'm an atheist, but a beautiful song performed by beautiful singers with beautiful voices... BEAUTIFUL!!

This concert was recorded in Eindhoven (The Netherlands) in the venue "Het klokgebouw" on March 23 2013, with a 70-piece Hungarian Orchestra and a choir with 30 singers. It was held on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Epica.
Floor and Simone started out in metal bands at 16 and 17 years old and were flatmates in the early days. Simone has also made guest appearances with Floor's earlier bands, After Forever and Re-Vamp. I think their daughters are also a year apart in age, as I think Simone's daughter was born in 2016 and Floor's daughter, I believe it was 2017. Who knows, maybe the daughters will someday perform together.
Yay, you finally had a chance to react to the lovely Simone Simons! Epica's live performances of "The Essence of Silence" and "Unchain Utopia" are awesome too! Also Within Temptation is another band worth noticing when it comes to symphonic metal. I'd recommend "Ice Queen", "Mother Earth" and "Somewhere" (and many other awesome songs!) from their Black Symphony.

This song is sung and recorded by Simone alone on the 3rd Epica album. She also wrote the lyrics, as she does for 50% of all Epica songs. Floor was a guest vocalist on this occasion. The sung this song with another guest vocalist on another stage as i recall..
Simone and Floor are Friends for many years... this is Metal as its best... you can’t compare Epica and Nightwish. It’s the same genre I think, but also totally different. But if these both goddesses sing together they are so similar.... maybe it seems to be sisters... I like this song sooo much...

The guy that said Floor's name is named Mark Jansen not related he was in the band After Forever with Floor. When the band broke up he started Epica with Simone. Simone had a baby boy and Floor has a daughter .
Simone was the first one to introduced me into symphonic metal... She's great singer and very very beautiful...
I really like "Illusive Consensus" from Epica. It's a really cool music. But there's a lot.

Floor and Simone are pretty much best friends. In fact, Floor actually helped train Simone on singing
the founder and lead guitarist of Epica is Mark Jansen (no relation to Floor), but was a member of After Forever, with Floor as lead singer....he left the band to found Epica, with a 17 year old Simone on vocals

I like Tarja's singing style the best, but I think Floor is the overall best singer of the three. Simone, however, has the voice I like the most, I've been in love with Simone's voice for years.

Simone and Floor are friends for years I brought my daughter to this concert and waited in the car, as i didn't want to spoil her evening as it was her first concert with a friend... Yes i regret i have given my ticket to a friend of her ... but ok shit happens lol ... If you wanna see more of Epica .. try Consign the Oblivion live at Paris .. And yes ... Now you are getting more and more in the symphonic metal ... Enjoy the ride

2 of the big 4 dutch sopranos in action and they make an unbelievable duet, the other 2 being anneke van giersbergen and sharon den adel (within temptation) - check out Paradise (ft Tarja) for another immense duet.
Must admit i'm a mad Epica nut but watch Kamelot live The haunting (Ft Simone Simons) - her husband ironically also plays in Kamelot. Also Floor's husband is in a band called Sabaton and they're awesome too in their own right
Epica was my introduction to symphonic metal. Then I found Within Temptation and Nightwish. They are my top three bands now.
Ignore the song and look at the fun the siren sisters are having together. There is mutual love and respect there which just makes the song all the more powerful.
They did a second song together in this concert. And the timing is perfect: you should react to it the day before Easter. It is called "Stabat Mater" and is based on a 13th century hymn to the Virgin Mary, about her mourning after the crucifixion. The music was composed in the 1700's by Giovanni Pergolesi, for soprano and contralto. Simone and Floor sing it together, with Floor taking the contralto line, showing just how insane her range is. Epica was formed by Marc Jansen (no relation ) from Floors old band After Forever. Simone was Marcs girlfriend for a long time so her and Floor have known each other for years. As TheEscapist said below you should check out Within Temptation's "Somewhere" from the Black Symphony/Metropole Orchestra concert you will get to experience two more of the Dutch Metal Maidens (Sharon & Anneke). Also you might like Aryeons "Valley of the Queens" (Floor, Anneke, & Marcela Bovio).
Also when you are ready for some more bands you haven't listened to yet I would recommend Amaranthe, Within Temptation, and if I remember correctly you said you were from Germany so how about Lord of the Lost.
As for more Epica you will get lots of requests for Consign to Oblivion, Kingdom of Heaven, & Sabat Mater Dolorosa (for more Floor), while these are all great my vote will go to Storm the Sorrow.
Have a look at After Forever, Floor’s previous band. The guitar player, Mark Jansen, is the frontman of Epica.
Simone also sings on the last live dvd and on may albums of Ayreon.
Look up Consign to oblivion by Epica Live in Zenith Paris... she is the almost equal to Foor, but my God that band, its darker and louder...

Always looking forward to your reactions! Epica is amazing, I've probably seen them like 7 times here in nyc and they kick ass every time. The song is sung by simone alone, but if they do a live show with a guest, this is usually the duet song. Songs to react to I'd say are Consign To Oblivion live at the Zenith, Paris (everyone will ask for this lol) but also a fave performance of mine is The Obsessive Devotion Live at Masters of Rock 2010... o and Kingdom of Heaven!! Also Floor and Epica do another song in this concert called Stabat Mater Dolorosa and omg its sooo beautiful! And lastly, I think this concert was in the Netherlands at 013 tilburg

Hi 🖐🏻, i tolld you erlier ... you have to check the Dutch show ‘beste zangers 2019’ ( best singers 2019) they are all singers . They all sing to 1 of them. Moastly they sing that persons songs in there own way. This year was with Floor Jansen, Singing Fantom of the opera, Shallow, mama and Winner ( a song for one of them (Tim) who’s brother is in a wheelchair, very emotional but you know the feelings by now 😉 Also sometimes they sing together. Floor sings beautifull... as always. Nightwish is awesome but Floor alone is also sooo good! Check it out!
Aww, Simones little baby belly. Yes, she was pregnant. And must've been kinda tired after several hours on stage, as one can hear. Usually she could totally keep up with Floor. They are such great friends, they've known each other for years. And no bad blood at all, considering as Mark Jansen (not related to Floor), founder of After Forever, left the band to Floor to manage on her own when she just finished High School, because he wanted to found a NEW band for his new girlfriend Simone Simmons (yes, Epica). Simone and Mark both have different partners now (and Mark did found another band for his next girlfriend, but as a side project) but still play together in the band. (sounds like a heavy metal soap opera, welcome to european heavy metal).
However, Simone and Floor have both been part of the 'Ayreon' project for a while too. As did many other vocalists of very popular german bands (like, Hansi from Blind Guardian, Tobias from Avantasia, Marco from Nighwish, etc, etc).
If you are interested (and I hope you are), I would recommend a song from the one and only live performance of Ayreon, where a big part of all the cast is present (Ayreon has been going on for decades). There you can see all the singers and musicians of the 3-nights-concert together on stage (and they barely all fit there), the 'Eye of Ra'. The above mentioned vocalists are all there, and next to Floor is her little sister Irene Jansen, who is also a great rock vocalist. Love that song, but i would say listen to the studio version, i haven't seen a life version that really comes close so far. The sound quality of all those recordings are mostly to bad for the last part. Else the "Live at Pinkpop 2010" is maybe the best.

Das Witzige an der Sache ist, dass Floor in ihren jungen Jahren eine Band namens "After Forever" zusammen mit Mark Jansen (nicht verwandt) hatte. Diese existierte bis 2007, aber 2003 hat Mark Epica gegründet, zusammen mit seiner Freundin Simone. Wenn du dir die Songs der beiden Bands im Vergleich anhörst, wirst du definitiv stilistische Ähnlichkeiten feststellen, die auf den gleichen Songwriter zurückzuführen sind.
Floor hatte dann eine weitere Band, "ReVamp". 2012 kam sie zu Nightwish (zuerst als Tour-Ersatz für Anette), 2015 war Schluss mit ReVamp. Seit etwa 2 Jahren gibt es dann noch "Northward", ein Rock- Projekt von Floor und einem ihrer Freunde.
