I got bored with guitar playing around 2004. After a long hiatus I picked up the guitar again few years ago and have been really enjoying it. All I have been doing anymore is improvising by ear and studying all the theory I can find to aid me in this.
I would've loved to have had you as an instructor back when I first started playing. Your conceptual approach is the ticket I believe. Time saving insight!!You've opened some new doors for me in just a couple months of watching. It's all about perspective. You go deep but make things simple to understand. Thanks Sean!
Terrific lesson, which I probably enjoyed even more because I didn't have to decipher Sean's typical rapid-fire semi-mumbling delivery. One of my favorite teachers, all in all, in part because of his sense of humor and engaging personality.
love this way of thinking! i was just thinking the other day that i need to work on my ear training, this lesson will come in great! my journey puddle jumper came in the mail the other day, and it's so awesome, and will be put to good use! thanks again!
In my classical training many years ago it was mostly horizonal across rather than vertical. Each scale brought musical pieces in that scale to put the scale in context. However, I think I didn't really get the neck in a more variable context to allow more movement. Just noodling around I have been using a note from one scale to jump into anywhere in another scale and run with that and do it again. It seems for me its like learning a deck of facts in same order over and over instead shuffling the deck and break down that route leaning to open it up for creatively into larger chucks of fretboard relationships. Expansive larger picture of the relationships to the notes. Like instead of walking a preordain path to stay on course that has the tiles already laid to becoming the layer of the tiles as it fits staying on track for the moment. It interesting that parts of scales are in other scales than a privocal note flips it into another scale. So it seems I'm learning series of notes as a sound chucking. Notes become larger sound patterns that are like a note as they have their characteristic sound and so on. Probably sound crazy. Then again sometimes you got to get a little crazy to get it done. Your lessons seems to get me thinking more about what the relationships between notes rather than the single note as that relationship becomes the sound or the interval between them defines them is the sound rather than a single note? Ok maybe......anyway thanks great lesson.
Great advice. As someone who learned the neck with scale/chord shapes, I find that one string method a great way to do ear training. I recently tuned one guitar to a G tuning. I have no idea where the notes are that way and have to almost totally depend on my ear to find scales, modes, and arpeggios. Seems to help even when I switch back to standard. Thanks for posting
Dear Sean, I dig your all lessons man!.. I have for quite awhile now. In this particular video, your sleek frame seems so slender, I thought it would’ve been even more profoundly entertaining had you borrowed Stitch’s handsome melon for this lesson 😀
I'm glad I have most of the intuition skills already. I would hate to relearn the guitar from scratch.... And I've only been playing for a year and 7 months....
hey sean, i've been watching your channel since the beginning of my guitar journey (a year now!) and i wanted to ask how the heck do i strum up while palm muting? the high e string either buzzes or is muted completely and makes a distracting chuck sound
Go soft and try not to hit that string whatsoever until you’re able to softly make it sound nice to your ears. As you develop a gentle touch, you’ll notice you’re feeling what’s sounds nice rather than trying to make it sound nice.
And after many years you can land on the wrong note, slide into the right one, and everyone thinks you did it on purpose. I've never done that and I'll do it again prolly forever. LOL 8) --gary

Learning by ear is one of the most important traits you could gain from musical experience, and is truly an asset!

This community is very positive and your videos have thought me more than my guitar teacher! Thank you!
Infinite gratitude brother!
Thank you for sharing your gifts.
Peace and blessings

So glad to hear you like it!!! Congrats!
Great to show a different, simple approach to figuring out a song. And kudos for the cheap trick guitar strap.

When I'm not giving like to videos I haven't seen yet I spend my time watching guitar videos instead of practising guitar.
My guy!
Thanks for the tips on how to play guitar by ear. I still need a lot of practice in order to get better at knowing a note by just hearing it.
Sean, this is GREAT stuff! Reminds me to dive deeper into your Patreon treasures, which I shall do. 👍🏽
Nice little lesson. Thanks

Ordered the class. $20.99 could be worth just watching the show you 2 put on. Looking forward to getting my own ship.
Awesome!!! I hope you dig it!
Mate, you’re a great teacher.
Interesting and simple way bud. I will use this
IT’S HAPPENING
infinitely better, that's the ticket, thanks Sean...
That guitar is like a Volkswagen Beetle - looks best on a female. Love you Sean!
Playing horizontially is how the theme of The Last of Us 1 is written. It's a really interesting song to learn to apply this sort of learning.
Third Comment..
I made it!!!
Thank you Sean for all the wonderful lessons, everything about my music theory knowledge is your blessing.
Very nice Sean. Thank you. Btw, i’m thinking of buying a Premier DC Mini ... should I do it?
Yes you should!!!!! I love mine!
@@seandaniel23 One day, I will share with you the list, and cost, of purchases I have made that are down to you😂😂😂👍🏻
@@bungalowbluesman Haha, please do!
Yes... basing this on the build quality and tone of my recently bought EXL-1. Dangelico are a class act
Thanks, I do this with triads.
Sir can you please make a video of the Doo solo on Blue berry faygo song
I'm glad I have most of the intuition skills already. I would hate to relearn the guitar from scratch.... And I've only been playing for a year and 7 months....
Keep on rockin!
Awesome! Btw is that St Vincent's guitar?

I’m certain Sean will have better advice tho! ;)
Why is B flat the official key?
Why is the B flat to G major resolution so strong? Chordal Relationship Tapestry
It's the year of the brass instrument. Tuba 4 life!

G key is a home game, I got a 🏀 Jones .
May all your modes be home.
Please read with salty comment voice: backwards hat went out in the 90s and makes your eyes look further apart than they already are.
After years of playing the guitar I had to finally admit defeat and put it down............ it was heavy.😉
One riff is Friend of the Devil and the other is Zombie
Once you go Bb you can never go back.
I prefer playing using my hands.
I use a plectrum .

This doesn't sound like the Bohemian Rhapsody !
